Con la visión de ser un espacio para potenciar el talento de Baja California y el mundo, es que CETYS Universidad

cumple 58 años de refrendar su compromiso con la comunidad al formar a los líderes que impactan no solo a la región, sino también al país y el mundo.

En su magna ceremonia de aniversario el pasado viernes 20 de septiembre, la Institución bajacaliforniana celebró sus más de cinco décadas de compromiso con la juventud, ante la presencia de integrantes del Instituto Educativo del Noroeste, Asociación Civil (IENAC A.C.), antiguos rectores, académicos, estudiantes, personal administrativo, empresarios y comunidad CETYS Alumni.

Como parte de los festejos, el Dr. Fernando León García, Rector del Sistema CETYS Universidad, expresó su gratitud a quienes han confiado en el proyecto educativo que nació en 1961, con

el deseo de formar parte del desarrollo de la entidad.

“CETYS es el reflejo del impacto que tiene un modelo educativo integral en una región transfronteriza, con enfoque a nuestra visión 2036, donde la intención es que Baja California sea un imán de talento, creando una sinergia de lo local con lo mundial y así trascender” comentó el Dr. León.

Por su parte el presidente del IENAC A.C., Lic. Gustavo Vildósola Ramos, encabezó su primer evento de aniversario, en donde expresó que CETYS año con año cumple su misión de formar a ciudadanos de bien que impacten positivamente a la comunidad.

“Es un honor para mí representar al IENAC y ver cómo la visión que tuvieron 8 soñadores cada vez toma más fuerza, donde la Institución se posiciona con altos estándares de calidad, confiando en el talento de sus estudiantes.

Tengo fe en que la educación es la llave para el crecimiento positivo de la sociedad” comentó en su mensaje.

En el marco del 58 Aniversario de CETYS Universidad, se contó con la presencia del experto en temas de branding organizacional, escritor y conferencista internacional James Kane, quien dictó la conferencia “Lealtad en las organizaciones”, donde habló de la importancia de encontrar una conexión entre los colaboradores y las empresas, resaltando el sentido de pertenencia y la confianza dentro de las organizaciones.

“Para hablar de lealtad, hay que hablar de verdad y confianza, de ser la mejor versión de ti mismo en todos los roles que desempeñas en tu vida y transmitirlo a la cultura laboral, ya que a través del sentido de lealtad se puede cambiar al mundo” reflexionó.

Con motivo de la celebración, se reconoció

En la ceremonia de aniversario, se contó con la presencia de Fernanda Becerra, representante del estudiantado, Dr. Edgar Jiménez Soto, representante del Consejo Consultivo Académico; el Dr. Rafael Fernández de Castro Medina, Director del Centro de Estudios Estados Unidos-México de la Universidad de California en San Diego; el Mtro. Mario Dipp Núñez, Director de CETYS Universidad Campus Mexicali; el C.P. Eduardo Letayf Slim, Tesorero del IENAC A.C.; Lic. Gustavo Vildósola Ramos, Presidente del IENAC A.C. y el Dr. Fernando León García, Rector del Sistema CETYS Universidad.

Es así como CETYS Universidad, se congratula por sus primeros 58 años de vida, en camino a los nuevos retos y desafíos proyectados en el campo de la educación y la innovación hacia el año 2036.

With the vision of being a space to enhance the talent of Baja California and the world, CETYS

University celebrated 58 years of endorsing its commitment to the community by training leaders who impact not only the region, but also to the country and the world.

In its great anniversary ceremony last Friday, September 20, the Baja California Institution celebrated its more than five decades of commitment to youth, in the presence of members of the Northwest Educational Institute, Non-profit (IENAC AC), former deans, academics, students, administrative staff, businessmen and CETYS Alumni community.

As part of the celebrations, Dr. Fernando León García, Dean of the CETYS University System,

expressed his gratitude to those who have trusted the educational project that was born in 1961, with the desire to be part of the development of the entity.

“CETYS is the reflection of the impact of an integral educational model in a cross-border region, with a focus on our 2036 vision, where the intention is that Baja California can be a magnet of talent, creating a synergy of the local with the global and thus transcend” Commented Dr. Leon.

For his part, the president of IENAC A.C., Lic. Gustavo Vildósola Ramos, headed his first anniversary event, where he said that CETYS year after year fulfills its mission of forming citizens that positively impact the community.

The Educational Institution has formed more than 41 thousand professionals who are agents of change with social leadership, around 26 countries. “It is an honor for me to represent IENAC and

see how the vision 8 dreamers had every time becomes stronger, where the Institution is positioned with high quality standards, relying on the talent of its students. I have faith that education is the key to the positive growth of society,” he said in his message.

Within the framework of the 58th Anniversary of CETYS University, there was the expert on issues of organizational branding, writer and international speaker James Kane, who offered a talk about "Loyalty in organizations", where he spoke about the importance of finding a connection between collaborators and companies, highlighting the sense of belonging and trust within organizations.

“To talk about loyalty, you have to talk about truth and trust, about being the best version of yourself in all the roles you play in your life and transmit it to the working culture, since

through the sense of loyalty you can change to world” he reflected.

On the celebration, employees who are 5,10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of age being part of the CETYS Family were recognized at the Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada Campus. In addition to the “Global Experience 2019” ceremonies, an event in which students who lived an international experience during the last year are distinguished.

Mexicali creó una fuerterelación binacionalgracias a Gustavo Sánchez

Era un martes por la mañana en la reunión de la Junta de Supervisores del Condado Imperial el 1 de noviembre de 2016,

donde un invitado especial iba a aparecer para presentarse como el Alcalde Electo de Mexicali.

Ese día, Gustavo Sánchez Vázquez marcó el tono de su administración con respecto a su agenda binacional con los Estados Unidos. Por primera vez en muchos años, Mexicali adoptó un enfoque agresivo al fomentar relaciones binacionales con los gobiernos municipales, del condado y legislativos para abrir líneas de comunicación y amistad.

“Fue realmente un honor tener a Gustavo Sánchez en nuestra reunión. No solemos ver a un alcalde de Mexicali venir a visitarnos y querer trabajar con nosotros,” dijo Jack Terrazas, ex supervisor del condado y presidente de la junta de supervisores cuando Sánchez fue a la reunión.

Semanas después de que Sánchez se convirtiera en alcalde, se reunió con el entonces alcalde de Calexico Armando "Mandy" Real donde acordaron reafirmar el acuerdo de ciudades hermanas. Como ciudades fronterizas con fuertes lazos económicos y familiares, fue un paso natural para ambas ciudades reavivar una relación que se había perdido.

El ex alcalde Real también se interesó en los esfuerzos binacionales durante su etapa en el cabildo. En 2014, Real fue designado por el cabildo de Calexico como el enlace con la ciudad de Mexicali. Real se reunió con el departamento de turismo de Baja California, el Clúster Médico Mexicali y CDEM Mexicali como parte de sus reuniones oficiales al comienzo de su etapa como regidor. Las alcaldías de Sánchez Vázquez y Real coincidieron en 2017 y acordaron trabajar juntos. Ambos alcaldes firmaron la ratificación de hermandad entre Calexico y Mexicali marcando un nuevo comienzo en su relación.

“Trabajé con Gustavo Sánchez firmando esta ratificación de ciudades hermanas, pero para que esto continúe, ambos deben comprometerse a reunirse mensualmente y cada cabildo tener un enlace. Es necesario poner más esfuerzo, especialmente en el lado de Calexico,” dijo el ex alcalde de Calexico Real.

It was a Tuesday morning at the Imperial County Board of Supervisors meeting on November 1, 2016, a special guest was going

to make an appearance before the board to introduce himself as the Mayor-Elect of Mexicali.

That day, Gustavo Sanchez Vazquez set the tone of his administration in regards to his binational agenda with the United States. For the first time in many years, Mexicali took an aggressive approach in fostering binational relationships with municipal, county and legislative governments to open lines of communication and friendship.

Ambas ciudades organizaron un concierto binacional junto a la valla fronteriza. El concierto en Calexico se realizó en la calle Heber y Calle Primera y en Mexicali en el Parque Heroes de Chapultepec. Este evento también sirvió como celebración del aniversario de cada ciudad.

El alcalde Sánchez explicó que Mexicali coexiste en muchas cosas con el Valle Imperial y Arizona en temas como el turismo, el medio ambiente, la seguridad pública y la economía.

“Por eso sabía desde el principio que necesitábamos trabajar de la mano con el Valle Imperial,” dijo el alcalde Sánchez.

Meses después, Sánchez invitó a los alcaldes de Valle Imperial, Yuma y San Luis, Sonora a la primera Cumbre de Alcaldes celebrada en Mexicali en la Casa de la Cultura, donde tuvieron reuniones sobre temas como la seguridad pública, el desarrollo económico, y el medio ambiente. La reunión terminó con un Memorando de Entendimiento firmado por los alcaldes.

“Para mí, era muy importante que nuestros jefes de policía y bomberos de toda la región fronteriza se reunieran y se comunicaran entre sí.

“It was truly an honor to have Gustavo Sanchez at our meeting. We don't often see a Mexicali Mayor come visit and want to work with us,” said Jack Terrazas, former county Supervisor, and chairman of the board when Sanchez visited.

Weeks after Sanchez became Mayor he met with then-Calexico Mayor Armando ”Mandy” Real and agreed to reaffirm their sister cities agreement. As border cities with strong economic and family ties, it was a natural step for both cities to reignite a relationship that was lost in previous years.

Former Calexico Mayor Real, took interest in the binational efforts as well during his term in the city council. In 2014, Real was appointed by the

council as the liaison with the city of Mexicali. Real met with the department of tourism of Baja California, the Mexicali Medical Cluster, and CDEM Mexicali as part of his official meetings at the beginning of his term as councilman. Sanchez Vazquez and Real’s mayorships coincided in 2017 and agreed to work together. Both mayors signed the reaffirmation of Calexico and Mexicali marking a new beginning in their relationship.

“I worked with Gustavo Sanchez signing this reaffirmation of sister cities but if this is going to continue, they both need to make a commitment to meet on a monthly basis and each council have a liaison. There needs to be more effort put in, especially in Calexico’s side,” Former Calexico Mayor Real said.

Both cities hosted a binational concert next to the border fence. The concert in Calexico took place on Heber and First Street and in Mexicali at Heroes de Chapultepec Park. It also served as a celebration of the anniversary of each city.

Mayor Sanchez said Mexicali coexists in many things with Imperial Valley and Arizona in issues like tourism, environment, public safety, and the economy.

“That’s why I knew from the very beginning that we needed to work hand-in-hand with the Imperial Valley,” Mayor Sanchez said.

Months later, Sanchez invited the mayors of Imperial Valley, Yuma, and San Luis, Sonora to the first Mayor’s Summit held in Mexicali at the Casa De La Cultura where they had a full day agenda discussion on issues such as public safety, economic development, and environment. The meeting ended with a Memorandum of Understanding signing between them.

“For me, it was very important that our police and fire chiefs from all the border region meet and communicate with each other. We also had important agreements in regards to economic and tourism promotion,” Sanchez said.

Jueves 19 de septiembre de 2019.- Gracias a las fortalezas estructurales de la entidad y las políticas de atracción y retención de compañías de la Administración estatal que

encabeza el Gobernador Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, en los primeros cinco meses de 2019, la manufactura en Baja California creció 9% anual, logrando el 1º lugar nacional, de acuerdo a la información que dio a conocer el Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), sobre la actividad industrial para mayo.

El Secretario de Desarrollo Económico, Carlo Bonfante Olache, explicó que en general la actividad industrial total de Baja California, registró un crecimiento anual de 0.7% respecto a mayo de 2018, contrario al comportamiento nacional que fue de -3.3%. El crecimiento de la actividad industrial estuvo sustentado por el comportamiento de la actividad manufacturera que tuvo un aumento de 3.9%.

Considerando los cinco primeros meses de 2019, la actividad industrial en la entidad registró un crecimiento anual del 4.3%, posicionándose en el 6º lugar nacional en donde como se indicó, la manufactura punteó a nivel nacional, mientras que la generación, transmisión y distribución de energía eléctrica, suministro de agua y de gas, aumentaron 11.8%, consiguiendo el 9º lugar nacional.

Administration headed by Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, in the first five months of 2019, manufacturing in Baja California grew 9% annually, achieving the 1st national place, according to the information released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), on industrial activity for May.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Carlo Bonfante Olache, explained that, in general, the total industrial activity of Baja California, registered an annual growth of 0.7% compared to May 2018, contrary to the national behavior that was -3.3%. The growth of industrial activity was supported by the behavior of manufacturing activity, which increased by 3.9%.

Considering the first five months of 2019, the industrial activity in the entity registered an annual growth of 4.3%, positioning

itself in the 6th national place where, as indicated, manufacturing punctuated nationally, while the generation, transmission, and distribution of Electric power, water and gas supply, increased 11.8%, getting a 9th national place.

Para resaltar ese reconocimiento, y enmarcar la labor que hacen estos héroes en cada misión, mismas que no tienen hora ni aviso; Luis Felipe Gaspar, un fotoperiodista apasionado por su profesión, ha dedicado más de 15 años a documentar gráficamente a los bomberos de Mexicali en plena acción.

“Para mí es un homenaje, realizar estas fotografías para que la gente conozca como trabajan los bomberos en pleno campo de

acción. A fin de cuentas, son héroes anónimos, y me gusta hacer que la gente se entere y

conozca a detalle lo que ellos hacen, y a lo que se exponen”.

Así mismo, Gaspar describe cómo al involucrarse en la intimidad de los bomberos, estos lo han asumido como parte de su familia, como un integrante más, llegando a ser asignado como bombero voluntario, alguien quien convive y vive el accionar de los “traga-humos”.

“Tengo una página que se llama, “Diá a día con los bomberos”, ahí la gente puede ver mi material, siempre guardo cierta distancia, busco acercarme lo más que puedo sin exponerme de más. Los bomberos me consideran de su familia, es algo que me enorgullece. Como bombero voluntario me limito a ayudar con cargar con las mangueras u otros materiales”.

Gaspar comenta que su intención no es más que la de exponer los riesgos y circunstancias que enfrentan los bomberos día con día. Algo que lo ha llevado a brindar exposiciones en lugares de interés público, como la Casa de la Cultura, así como en Cetys Universidad. The City of Mexicali fire departments have

Para aquellos quienes aún no han tenido la dicha de conocer la maravillosa Ruta del Vino en Baja California y no se han

dado el gusto de ir aún a alguna de las tantas celebraciones de Las Fiestas de la Vendimia, como lo hice yo este año en L.A. Cetto en su tradicional fiesta anual de la vendimia 2019, se han perdido de mucho.

Con un clima favorecedor, una tierra fértil y el envidiable vecindario con el estado más poderoso de Estados Unidos y El Valle de Napa, el Valle de Guadalupe en Baja California está forjando una identidad propia y muy reconocida ya por todos los amantes del vino a nivel mundial, convirtiéndose en la cuna de los vinos mexicanos ganadores de primeros lugares a nivel global.

En la punta al norte de México, El Valle de Guadalupe comprende alrededor de 10,000 hectáreas de cultivo que se distribuyen a lo largo de un corredor de aproximadamente 25 kilómetros.

La historia de este producto en la región se remonta al siglo XVIII, cuando los jesuitas llegaron al lugar y empezaron el cultivo de la vid. No obstante, su éxito explotó recientemente, ya que apenas se consolidó de la Ruta del vino hace menos de una década.

En estos días, el Valle de Guadalupe produce un 90% de los vinos nacionales en México y es por eso que es ya un punto de encuentro clave para el enoturismo de todos lados.

En esta región Bajacaliforniana, Las Fiestas de la Vendimia, año con año celebran oficialmente durante el mes de agosto la cosecha de la uva y culmina el largo proceso de cuidado del viñedo, trabajo, inversión de tiempo y dinero, con el propósito de lograr, a pesar de los riesgos, la obtención de los mejores frutos.

Las Fiestas de la Vendimia, una celebración que inició este año el 25 de Julio y culminó el 18 de agosto, son una serie de fiestas y eventos de élite que se realizan principalmente en bodegas individuales. Estos eventos comprenden galas, cenas, catas de vino y grandes fiestas que celebran la temporada de cosecha de las uvas y exhiben la cocina y el vino locales. Son una remembranza de tiempos pasados que además de recordar el origen y motivo de las mismas, también son la oportunidad de promover los destinos como zonas vitivinícolas y el entorno enoturístico.

incluyen la Muestra del Vino (evento de degustación de vinos) que inicia la Vendimia, y el Concurso de Paellas que cerró la Vendimia el domingo 18 de agosto.

La vendimia es tiempo de esperanza, de ver cristalizado el arduo trabajo de un año. Es el símbolo del trabajo culminado del agricultor que recibe en frutos el premio de su esfuerzo, para dar paso al proceso de vinificación.

Y este año durante la temporada de La Vendimia, y después de ser galardonado a nivel internacional con algunos premios importante, L.A. Cetto se puso de manteles largos para celebrar su gran fiesta de la Vendimia 2019, el sábado 10 de agosto.

El evento dio inicio con una Misa de Acción de gracias y la bendición de la primera molienda. Posteriormente, los asistentes degustaron de los vinos de casa y participaron en el concurso de la pisa de uva.

Después se llevó a cabo la presentación de los premios obtenidos en el presente año, junto con degustación de una deliciosa comida para terminar con el magnífico espectáculo del cantante internacional, Ricardo Montaner, quien deleito a los más de 2,000 asistentes con sus composiciones y sus canciones románticas.

For those who have not yet had the joy of knowing the wonderful Wine Country in

Baja California and have not had the pleasure of attending one of the many celebrations of the Harvest Festivities, as I did this year in L.A. Cetto with its traditional annual Wine Harvest Festival 2019, have missed tremendously.

With a favorable climate, a fertile land and the enviable neighborhood with the most powerful state in the United States and the Napa Valley, the Guadalupe Valley in Baja California is forging its own identity and it’s already recognized by most wine lovers at a global level, becoming the cradle of Mexican wines that are awarded recognition globally.

On the tip of the north of Mexico, the Guadalupe Valley comprises about 10,000 hectares of crops that are distributed along a corridor of approximately 25 kilometers (15 miles).

The history of this product in the region dates back to the 18th century when the Jesuits arrived at the place and began the cultivation of the vine. However, its success exploded recently, as the Wine Country was barely consolidated less than a decade ago.

Today, the Guadalupe Valley produces 90% of national wines in Mexico and this is why it’s already a key meeting point for wine tourism everywhere.

Throughout this Baja California region, the Wine Harvest Festival, year after year, officially celebrates during the month of August the grape harvest and culminates the long process of taking care of the vineyard, work, investment of time and money, in pursue of, despite any risks, harvesting the best fruits.

The Harvest Festival, a celebration that began on July 25 this year and culminates on August 18, is a series of elite parties and events that are held primarily in individual wineries. These events include galas, dinners, wine tasting events and great parties that celebrate the grape harvest season and exhibit local cuisine and wine. They are a remembrance of past times that, in addition to recalling their origin and motive, are also the opportunity to promote destinations such as wineries and the wine tourism environment.

Some of these events are organized by Provino (the organization that plans the festival) where many of the wineries are present and thousands of people come together to enjoy local wine and regional cuisine. These events include the Muestra del Vino (Wine Tasting Event) that kicks-off the Harvest, and the Paellas Contest that wrapped up the Harvest on Sunday, August 18.

The Harvest is a time of hope, to see the hard work of a full year materialized. It is the symbol of the ending of the work season for farmers who receive in the fruits the prize for their efforts, and give way to the winemaking process.

During this Wine Harvest Festivities, and after being awarded internationally with some important awards, L.A. Cetto dressed up to celebrate their great Wine Harvest Festival 2019, on Saturday, August 10.

The event began with a Thanksgiving Mass and the blessing of the first grinding. Subsequently, attendees tasted the house wines and participated in the traditional treading of the grapes.

Then the presentation of the awards obtained this year was carried out, along with the first meal course to end with the wonderful performance of international singer, Ricardo Montaner, who delighted more than 2,000 attendees with his compositions and romantic songs.

Medicine had made little progress in this regard, but in the last decade, the mechanisms involved in the increasingly so-called "aging disease" have been elucidated, in part thanks to TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE.

But what is translational medicine? A partir del año pasado se creó la Ley de la Propiedad Industrial para permitir que los dueños de marcas parecidas o

semejantes obtengan los registros respectivos. Ahora, si durante el trámite de registro de marca la autoridad considera que hay una marca semejante en grado de confusión, quien solicita puede iniciar las gestiones necesarias para obtener del titular de la marca que representa el impedimento una autorización, para que de esta manera el IMPI otorgue la marca solicitada.

Dicha autorización tiene como único requisito, hasta el momento, el ser por escrito y que expresamente se señale que se otorga la misma. Esta modificación en el sistema permitiría lo que comúnmente se denomina coexistencia de marcas y resulta bastante útil pues muchas marcas se negaban con base en la semejanza en grado de confusión cuando en el día a día del comercio mexicano y por diversas razones en realidad no se trataba de marcas que compitieran directamente o que fuera tan fácil de ser confundidas con los consumidores, negando la protección a muchos signos distintivos y seguridad jurídica a cientos de empresas.

Coexistencia de marcas Brands coexistenceEste último punto toma especial relevancia, pues en el comercio actual los canales y medios de distribución son tan distintos tanto para productos como para servicios, así como los mismos productos o servicios resultan tan diferentes o especializados que muchas marcas, aunque resultaran muy parecidas no podrían ser confundidas en virtud de lo ya mencionado.

A pesar de esta modificación, y como por ley el IMPI tiene el deber de proteger al consumidor, aún con la autorización del titular de la marca que representa obstáculo pudiera darse el caso de que se negara de manera definitiva el registro. Otra cosa a destacar es que al día de hoy no hay regulación alguna respecto a la autorización que se puede presentar en estos casos lo que genera un poco de incertidumbre en cuanto a qué debe contener dicho permiso.

As of last year, the Industrial Property Law was created to allow owners of similar

or comparable brands to obtain the respective records. Now, if during the trademark registration process the authority considers that there is a similar brand in degree of confusion, the applicant can initiate the necessary steps to obtain an authorization from the owner of the brand, so that in this way the IMPI grant the requested brand authorization. Such authorization has the only requirement, so far, to be in writing and expressly indicated that it is granted.

This modification in the system would allow what is commonly called coexistence of brands and is quite useful because many brands were denied based on the similarity in degree

of confusion when in the day-to-day life of Mexican commerce and for various reasons it was not really of brands that competed directly or that were so easily confused with consumers, denying protection to many distinctive signs and legal certainty to hundreds of companies.

This last point takes on special relevance, since in the current trade the channels and means of distribution are so different for both products and services, just as the same products or services are so different or specialized that many brands, although they were very similar, could not be confused by virtue of what has already been mentioned.

In spite of this modification, and as by law, the IMPI has a duty to protect the consumer, even with the authorization of the owner of the brand that represents an obstacle, it could be the case that the registration was definitively denied. Another thing to note is that today there is no regulation regarding authorization that can be presented in these cases, which generates a bit of uncertainty as to what that permit should contain.

Al cabo de cuatro años Jorge estaba al frente de los restaurantes de dicho inversionista en el estado de Washington, logrando gran posicionamiento entre su clientela quienes afirmaban recibir el mejor servicio. Fue entonces que, con el apoyo de su mentor y jefe, logró completar sus estudios en administración de restaurantes y hotelería e inició su travesía al frente del restaurante.

Al cabo de un tiempo y decidido a iniciar su primer restaurante con sus ahorros, abrió un restaurante de comida mexicana el cual título “Mucho Loco”, ubicado en Seattle, Washington. Sin embargo, por su corta edad y falta de experiencia, al lograr algo de éxito con dicho negocio “perdió el piso”, por lo que su primer negocio fracaso.

Dos años más tarde, se regresó a California, y empezó su experiencia como gerente de una cadena de restaurantes griegos la cual se componía por alrededor de ochenta restaurantes y la cual logró gran éxito alrededor de los Estados Unidos.

Sin embargo, después de ser el gerente general de la cadena de restaurante griegos y tras no encontrar una oportunidad de sociedad como pago al sacrificio de siete años y de una gran responsabilidad, decidió emprender sus propios restaurantes con diferentes conceptos y estableció su propio restaurante titulándolos “Tempo Cantina” y “King & Queen Cantina” de la cual hoy en día tiene más de cuatro exitosas sucursales en Orange County, Los Ángeles, San Diego y está por abrir cuatro más en algunas de las ciudades más importantes de Estados Unidos, como lo son, Miami, Hawái, Nueva York, entre otros.

La construcción de una parte del muro fronterizo financiado por el Pentágono comenzó hace unos días cerca de Yuma, Arizona, justo cuando las autoridades federales publicaron una lista de los proyectos del Departamento de Defensa que se eliminarán para poder pagar ese proyecto emblemático del presidente Donald Trump durante 2019.

“El análisis económico nos indica que inicia en Arizona construcción de muro en la frontera con México con fondos militares. Mientras que las autoridades federales hicieron pública una lista de proyectos del Departamento de Defensa que serán cancelados para pagar el muro del presidente Donald Trump”, señaló el Dr. Alejandro Díaz Bautista, economista, investigador nacional del Conacyt al igual que profesor investigador de El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef).

El muro es una cerca de acero de 9 metros (30 pies) que será erigida a lo largo del río Colorado en una sección de frontera donde se había registrado un fuerte aumento en la entrada de familias migrantes este año, aunque se redujo considerablemente en las últimas semanas. Se desconocen los detalles exactos del proyecto, pero al parecer la valla abarcará unos 8 kilómetros (5 millas).

El inicio de la construcción hace unos días coincidió con el anuncio del Departamento de Defensa sobre la cancelación de proyectos por $3,600 millones que se realizarían en bases militares para financiar el muro, lo que pone de relieve el dilema político en el que se encuentran muchos miembros del Congreso que buscarán la reelección el año entrante.

El Presidente Trump declaró en febrero una emergencia nacional para disponer de miles de millones de dólares del Pentágono para financiar el muro, además de los $1,400 millones asignados por el Congreso. During the Cu4tro Fronteras Business Congress, held at the Ozara Conference Room, where companies from

California, Arizona, Sonora, and Baja California gathered together, the Director of Beyond Borders Gazette, Ellie Burgueño, presented her keynote talk “The Second Chance in Business”, in relation to her recent literary work “Second Chance” (Segunda Oportunidad), a book with an inspirational genre on the situations and circumstances that life presents.

Furthermore, the creator of Beyond Borders, adorned Wednesday afternoon to talk to different entrepreneurs who were expectant, listening and sharing their experiences, in relation to the challenges and failures that

they’ve had to overcome, the obstacles in their personal life which have influenced their business, and how to handle emotions in their favor.

More than 100 people, all of the entrepreneurs from different areas, participated enthusiastically in each of the activities carried out by the speaker, who’s originally from Mexicali, and who highlighted the importance of being able to give yourself the value you deserve, learn to forgive oneself from any past mistakes, and retake the reins of your business, and your life.

Finally, Burgueño congratulated the Cu4tro Fronteras organization committee, for carrying out initiatives such as this one, in favor of

promoting entrepreneurship, and building effective business relationships, which will strengthen ties between both sides of the border, within this binational community.

Additionally, as a response, the Organizing Cu4tro Fronteras Congress Committee, delivered a recognition plaque to the author of Segunda Oportunidad (Second Chance), for her participation in the event.

He ahí la importancia de la cooperación internacional es la manera mediante la cual los países trabajan en conjunto para mejorar la situación de sus respectivos países en las diferentes áreas tanto económicas, como sociales y jurídicas.

Cuando no existe una buena relación internacional es cuando nacen los conflictos entre naciones que llevan a sufrirlo su población creando inseguridad, desigualdades y precariedad en el país. Es importante que las naciones tengan una buena comunicación, estando siempre en busca de llegar a acuerdos internacionales por el bien común de las naciones.

Por ello es de suma importancia que Estados Unidos y México tengan buenas relaciones y más en esta época de grandes cambios para ambas naciones, sus relaciones deben estar íntimamente ligadas en temas tan importantes

como lo son migración, salud, educación, así como en el ámbito económico, jurídico y social.

Ambos países enfrentan grandes retos que deben atacar juntos tales como el tráfico de personas que se encuentra al alza y es un grande problema binacional que viven las fronteras de Estados Unidos y México. Así como también, los problemas migratorios, hoy en día un gran número de migrantes ha llegado a ambos países, por lo que es importante trabajar en conjunto para poder proveer de oportunidades a los refugiados que vienen sufriendo grandes problemas y que los viven día con día como migrantes.

También en temas económicos las relaciones entre ambos países siempre han sido de suma importancia ya que las economías de ambos países están íntimamente ligadas, es importante que continúe su cooperación internacional,

Mexico lives its own changes, as well as the United States, both countries are experiencing very particular political and legal changes.

All these changes that different countries are going through are in the search for national development to achieve the common good for their countries, or at least, that should be the reason for any progress or change in a country, to achieve that everyone has the same rights, as well as ending injustices, and always seeking for equal rights, social and economic development of the country.

Every country to achieve optimal development needs to be in contact with the other countries not only to be aware of their situations but to work together to seek growth opportunities

for their countries. That is the reason of the importance of international cooperation, because it is the way in which countries work together to improve the situation of their respective countries in different areas such as economic, social and legal.

Conflicts arises when there is not a good international relationship between nations, which lead to the suffering of its population creating insecurity, inequalities and precariousness in the country. It is important that nations have good communication, always looking for international agreements for the common good of their nations.

That is why it is of the utmost importance that the United States and Mexico have good relations, specially in this time of great changes for both nations, their relations must be closely linked in such important matters as migration, health, education, as well as in the field economic, legal and social.

Como parte del crecimiento de la empresa, se pretende obtener la inversión en maquinaria y equipo necesario para aumentar considerablemente la capacidad de producción, lo que permitirá abrir nuevos canales de venta en otros estados de México.

En años recientes una ola nacionalista ha impactado cada rincón de la Tierra. Distintos líderes en Europa, América

y otros lugares han ganado elecciones con una plataforma nacionalista y anti-extranjera. Argumentando que es necesario enfocarse en problemas internos, abandonar influencias externas y/o proteger empleos locales, sus movimientos políticos han alzado la bandera nacionalista y repudiado el globalismo.

Es entendible que mucha gente crea que las fuerzas globalizantes han afectado negativamente su modo de vida: han perdido empleos que se fueron a algún otro lado; ahora se encuentran con más inmigrantes—con culturas y aspectos diferentes—en sus ciudades y pueblos; sienten que han tenido que pagar el precio (militar o económico) por cosas que pasan mucho más allá de sus fronteras.

Pero, como lo han demostrado diversos estudios serios, el globalismo (el cual implica mecanismos de gobernanza global, globalización y mercados internacionales mayormente abiertos) también ha sido el origen de cosas muy positivas: la gente puede comprar productos importados de todo el mundo, lo cual sin duda mejora sus estándares de vida; la tecnología se comparte y se adopta más fácilmente en un sistema globalizado; la información y los individuos pueden moverse más fácil que nunca con la disponibilidad de servicios de comunicación internacionales…

Alguna vez tuve la oportunidad de preguntarle a Carlos Gutierrez, quien fue Secretario del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos durante la presidencia de George W. Bush, por qué es tan difícil convencer al público en general de que la globalización y el comercio internacional son benéficos. Y me respondió más o menos así:

In recent years a nationalist wave has hit every corner of the Earth. Different leaders in Europe, the Americas and other places have

won elections on a nationalistic, anti-foreigner platform. Claiming that it is necessary to focus on internal problems, to abandon external influences and/or to protect local jobs, their political movements have raised the nationalist flag and repudiated globalism.

It is understandable for many people to believe that globalizing forces have affected negatively their way of life: they’ve lost jobs that have gone somewhere else; they now encounter more immigrants—with different cultures and looks—in their cities and towns; and they feel that they’ve had to pay the price (militarily or economically) for things that happen well beyond their borders.

But, as many serious studies have confirmed, globalism (which implies international

El cambio climático, el terrorismo, la proliferación nuclear, la estabilidad económica y financiera, las consecuencias del desarrollo de la inteligencia artificial y la bioingeniería… todos esos son asuntos que trascienden fronteras. Vamos a necesitar respuestas regionales y globales, por lo que las actitudes nacionalistas a ultranza únicamente complicarán más encontrar las soluciones necesarias.

governance mechanisms, globalization and mostly-free international markets) has also been the origin of very positive things: people can now buy cheap imported products from all over the world, which undoubtedly raises their standards of living; technology is better shared and adopted in a globalized system; information and individuals move faster than ever with the availability of international communication services...

I once had the opportunity to ask Carlos Gutierrez, who was U.S. Secretary of the Treasury during the George W. Bush presidency, why it is so complicated to convince the general public that globalization and international trade are beneficial. And he answered something like this:

“It’s really easy to see when globalization damages you (as in the case of losing your job due to an industry leaving your town to find cheaper labor), but its positive aspects are harder to grasp: lower prices as well as better and more varied products and services; access

to information and newer technologies… all that is not consciously attributed to globalization, but it is definitely an essential cause of such benefits”.

Besides, there is one aspect of globalism that nationalism will never be able to compete with: its capacity to solve the world’s problems. Most of the challenges faced by humanity today are either regional or global. Climate change, terrorism, nuclear proliferation, financial and economic stability, the consequences of the development of artificial intelligence and bioengineering… all of those are issues that transcend borders. We will need regional and global answers for them, and zealous nationalistic attitudes will only make it harder to find the needed solutions.

Of course that patriotism, tribal feelings and religion won’t disappear overnight, and they don’t have to. They are a generally a positive

force when they are not taken to extremes. And governments have to do a much better job in protecting those affected by globalist trends (expanding retraining programs and unemployment insurance). But I don’t see how protectionist or xenophobic agendas will lead to better standards of living within countries and much less to help avoid or counter the calamities—ecological and technological—that the future might bring to us humans.

Therefore, I firmly believe that we need to focus on building a more integrated world through regional and global institutions and civil society networks. Diplomacy must rule over aggression. Understanding has to win over rejection. Cooperation will need to prevail over alienation and disengagement. I am sure that all this will happen. If not out of conviction soon, out of necessity in an even more urgent time.

Por supuesto que el patriotismo, los sentimientos tribales y la religión no van a desaparecer de un momento a otro. No tendrían por qué hacerlo, ya que generalmente son una fuerza positiva cuando no se llevan a los extremos. Y el gobierno tendrá que hacer un mucho mejor trabajo para proteger a aquéllos que son afectados por impulsos globales (expandiendo programas de capacitación laboral y seguros de desempleo). Pero realmente no veo cómo los planes proteccionistas o xenofóbicos nos puedan llevar a tener mejores estándares de vida dentro de nuestros países y mucho menos ayudar a contrarrestar catástrofes—ecológicas o tecnológicas—que puedan presentarse en el futuro.

Por lo tanto, mi firme creencia es que debemos de enfocarnos en construir un mundo más integrado a través de instituciones regionales y globales y de redes transnacionales de la sociedad civil. La diplomacia debe imperar sobre la agresión. El entendimiento tiene que ganarle al rechazo. La cooperación tendrá que prevalecer sobre el alejamiento y el abandono. Estoy seguro de que esto sucederá. Si no es por convicción en el corto plazo, será por necesidad en un momento aún más urgente.

Imperial Irrigation District, your local, non-profit, public power provider, wants all of its low-income customers to know that help with your

monthly electric bill is available from the utility.

IID’s income-qualified customers can receive a 20 percent discount on their electric bill each month. The monthly discount is even higher (30 percent) if you are a senior citizen age 62 or older and your income qualifies you for the program.For many families, these discounts can make a big difference, especially during the harsh, summer months when energy usage, and energy bills, are the highest.

In the past year, the IID Board of Directors took two major actions to provide more help to low-income customers.

First, the board approved changing the age to qualify as a senior citizen from age 65 to 62 – so more people can qualify for the 30 percent discount. The board also increased the allowable income limit to qualify for assistance to 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. This means that low-income customers can earn more and still qualify for the IID discount.

“For many families, getting help with their energy bills can really make a difference,” said Erik Ortega, IID board president. “With the increase in the maximum level of income to qualify and the change to allow more seniors to qualify, we hope more customers will participate.”

The program is called IID Residential Energy Assistance Program, or REAP. You can qualify for this reduction in your electric bill if your annual income meets the following guidelines:

• 1-2 in household, $32,920.• 3 in household, $41,560.• 4 in household, $50,200.• 5 in household, $58,840.• For each additional person, add $8,640.

This applies to all income-qualified IID customers, even those who may live in a mobile home park that has a master meter. If your income qualifies you for the REAP program, IID will see that the discount is passed on to you.

you read this! What’s phubbing? Phubbing is snubbing someone you are talking to while looking at your phone. This word may be new to you, but guaranteed you’ve fallen prey to it or you’re an offender.

Smartphones serve as personal assistants, matchmakers and even shopping aides. But as our phones are getting smarter and keeping us more “connected” to the world around us, could they be ruining our personal connections with others?

Learn some of the downsides of an overreliance on phones and find a few simple ways you can reconnect and improve your personal relationships with others.

Might as well face it, you’re addicted to your phone. With their mind- and mood-altering capabilities, smartphones can be as addictive as gambling.

Adeola Adelayo, MD, a practicing psychiatrist with Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, says countless research has shown this kind of behavior can have a detrimental effect on you and those around you.

“When other people use their phones, we begin to feel the need to do the same. There’s this fear of missing out (FOMO) that takes place,” she said.

You feel less connected. Several studies have shown that phubbing makes face-to-face interactions less meaningful. If you are missing important yet subtle nonverbal cues from your friend, child or significant other, you may be missing key parts of the conversation. And vice versa, with your head in your phone, they will feel less connected with you.

It’s just not good for anyone’s health. Research has shown phubbing threatens four fundamental needs: belongingness, self-esteem, meaningful existence and control. This affects not only you but those around you.
