MESSAGE FROM MOMo Bundon

THE HILL STREET NEWS

The month of November is a special time for all of us. Traditionally, it is a time to reflect and remember those who have gone before us; both those who have bravely served our coun-try and died for our freedom, and our close friends and family who have left us too early. In light of this, I’d like to take a moment to remember our own close friend and colleague Lanny White, who passed away last month after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lanny was an incredible man. For those that knew him personally in his time with us at Harvard in Edmonton, you had the pleasure of knowing a genuine, caring and big-hearted individual. I will remember the instant trust and connection that I had with Lanny from the moment I met him, something that is rare these days. This trust was completely genuine, as Lanny was a man who would never let you down no matter what he was up against – some-thing that could be seen even in his final days.

The loving husband and father of two young girls was laid to rest last month at the age of 52, surrounded by loved ones and friends. During the service for Lanny, his daughter shared a very moving poem that Lanny used to read each day. The poem is titled “Attitude” by Charles Swindoll and can be found below. At this difficult time, I ask that you all keep Lanny, his family and friends/colleagues in your thoughts and prayers. He will be deeply missed….

Lastly, the months of October and November also bring the opportunity to come together with your colleagues and make a difference in your community. United Way Workplace Campaigns are now in full swing at our offices across Canada and are an amazing way to have some fun, show your spirit and raise valuable funds and awareness for the United Way. Your com-mitment, regardless of whether it’s a financial contribution or getting involved with an event, will make a difference and will impact the lives of thousands of individuals and families in your community. Our campaign teams have put together a series of great events for us to support so let’s make 2015 the most successful campaign ever!

That’s all for now; thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming “Meeting with Mo” events later this month.

REMEMBERINGLANNY WHITE

ATTITUDE BY: CHARLES SWINDOLL

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.

It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances,

than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.

It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will

embrace for that day.

We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude ...

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

It started out as a necessary maintenance project and ended up as an inspirational tribute to a great Canadian artist and a powerful comment about how contributions to important urban spaces define a downtown.

On Wednesday, Oct. 28th, Western Spirit, a 4000 lb. iconic sculpture of strength and symbolism, was re-installed on the refurbished Conexus Plaza on the corner of Hamilton and 11th Ave. With Regina’s most honoured dignitaries in attendance at the unveiling, Robert Dow Reid, the artist, spoke of the vision he had when the Bentall group commissioned him in 1985 to create a sculpture in front their new office building. The flying geese, Reid articulated, were meant to evoke a sense of upward trajectory; reaching for greater heights. He explained that the geese also represented the prairie work ethic and the “Western Spirit” of entrepreneurialism.

Mr. Reid is internationally renowned and has had works commissioned by The Canadian Government and her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. He and is wife, Isobel, immigrated to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland in 1958 and settled in Regina for six years before moving to Kelowna where they now reside.

At its original unveiling, the flying geese sculpture was dedicated to George C. Solomon. The inscription on the base of the sculpture reads: “A Man of Vision, Industry and True Western Spirit.”. Mr. Solomon, the father of our current Lieutenant Gov-ernor of Saskatchewan, Vaughn Solomon Schofield, was a man of significant business accomplishment, sitting on many boards and raising funds for many institutions and organizations in the City of Regina.

Why is all this significant? Throughout our 113 year history of The Hill Companies, we have had opportunities to build buildings and create places which often feature unique and iconic works of art for the public to enjoy. The arrival home of Western Spirit marked another such endowment. Thank you Steve Enns, Chris Johnson, Annette Keaveney and all of our staff who facilitated its restoration.

Landmarks like these speak to a city’s culture, stir our emotions in connecting us to our past and represent vital contributions to dynamic urban environments. We should be very grateful that we can make this kind of a difference in the communities we live in, work in and invest in.

Happy Reading!

Long before we learn to talk, our brain is a little genius computer. No language programs are humming their course within our brains because we are in the early stage of life, known as

infancy. At this point, we simply do not have the physical equipment nor the world expo-sure to develop a program for speech.

What we innately do have…is our “EMOTIONS”. I profoundly believe, they are somewhat of an “unspoken language”. Don Miguel Ruiz, famous author of “The Voice of Knowl-edge” shares, “Emotions never pretend to be what they are not. They are real, and

they are the most authentic pieces of our human character.” I also believe whether positive or negative, our emotions do serve us and have a unique way of connecting us to each other.

With your permission, I want to invite you on a reading journey of a clever animated film that takes an intriguing look into a young girl’s personified emotions of JOY, SADNESS, FEAR, ANGER and DISGUST. The story revolves around an 11 year old, Riley Andersen and her challenges of moving to a new city with her parents. This wonderful movie is called “INSIDE OUT”, produced in 3D by Pixar and Walt Disney, creating a 2015 movie stir around the world. This past May, the Cannes Film Festival chose this film as their TOP PICK. Its June box office opening, grossed over $90.4 million dollars and now to date it has grossed over $831.7 million dollars.

It is brilliantly directed by a fellow whose real name is Pete Doctor! The characters are voiced over by such celebrities, as Diane Lane and Kyle MacLauchlan (Riley’s parents) and two of the existing cast members of Saturday Night Live, Amy Poehler and Bill Hader as the emotions of JOY and FEAR. As I gather research to share this story, I discover that the idea came to the director in 2009 as he began noticing changes in his own daughter’s personality as she grew up. The film’s producers consulted numerous psychologists, who were eager to add their knowledge of how human emotions are able to influence our interpersonal relationships.

In fact, the witty dialogue shows how our emotions act as tiny magnets bringing to the movie screen of our life… whatever it is we are thinking or FEELING. To give you a little more of the inside scoop…Riley’s five emotions live in what’s known as the “Headquarters” of her conscious mind. Her emotions are hard at work every day to assist Riley in having a fantastic emotionally balanced life.

In the middle of July, I sat in a theatre full of families, enjoying a big bag of popcorn, watching this film and comically thinking “I wish I had a one of these Headquarters in my adult mind and…boy oh boy my divine life would be “Emotionally Perfect!” Meanwhile, the emotion of JOY seems to be in charge, in order that Riley’s life and her memories, all carefully hold the primary emotion of JOY in them. As Riley sleeps each night the Headquarters are busy once again, making sure the events and experiences of THAT day get safely stored and protected. I do not want to give away the rest of this clever story, but will say, keep watch for Riley’s “5 Islands of Personality” and how her emotions can lively activate or severely compromise the islands and her life as she knows it.

Lastly, and in the spirit of Halloween just passed, I invite you to invite your child to go to this movie. Allow yourself to slip slide into your child-like spirit. I promise you, it will be a new ad-venture when your child sees you laughing at particular lines…and perhaps looks at you in pure bewilderment.

I was purely captivated and enamored by this film, perhaps because of my degree in Child Psy-chology. But more importantly because I walked out of the theatre with this thought… “I am now on my way home, to have a real heart to heart chat with my “own” Headquarters”.

THE FUTURE OF HARVARD DEVELOPMENTS RETAIL IS HERE, AND ITS NEVER LOOKED BRIGHTER

THE HILL STREET NEWS | OCTOBER 2015 | PAGE 6

>FUTURE

If you’ve been following social media and pop culture over the last few weeks, you have no doubt heard about “Back to the Future” day, which was celebrated on October 21, 2015. This of course was the infamous date that a young Marty McFly and eccentric scientist Doc Brown travelled to, in their famous Delorean time machine in the 1989 hit movie “Back to the Future II”. 25 years later, it’s fun to look back on the movie’s predictions and laugh at their vision of 2015 (which included flying cars, self-lacing shoes, and the Chicago Cubs as World Series Champi-ons). Yes, the future certainly is a hot topic these days, but it’s not all about science fiction and movie magic. For us at the Hill Companies, we can literally see the future of our company through an exciting new retail development project that broke ground just last month.

It was all smiles for our retail development team back in late September as construction work began on their latest pride and joy, “Outlet Collection Winnipeg” – a new outlet mall development in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Work on the site was officially launched during a ground breaking ceremony on September 25th that brought together various business, political and community leaders from across the country to hear the plans for the project and to catch a glimpse at what the future of retail will look like for residents and visitors to Win-nipeg. Although the main focus of the day was to be-gin construction on the outlet mall, it was also a chance for Harvard to showcase our development plans for the area surrounding the mall known as “Seasons”.

The event was also a chance to introduce the project’s trio of companies’ that will be leading the charge on the overall development of the area. In addition to Harvard, the global real estate investment company Ivanhoe Cambridge is also major investor in the project and are expected to lean on their years of experience and ex-pertise in the outlet mall area. If the name Ivanhoé Cambridge rings a bell for you, you most likely remember their name from our partnership in the ac-quisition of 201 Portage in the summer of 2014. And round-ing out the team is a name and face a little more familiar to those at Harvard, with for-mer VP of Development Blair Forster, now of Forster Pro-jects.

Now that introductions are out of the way, let’s dig down (pun intended) and highlight some details and features of the overall project.

LOCATIONOutlet Collection Winnipeg, and the larger Seasons site, is located in the southeast corner of Winnipeg and is flanked by the major roads of Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard. Seasons also marks a new chapter for Harvard, as it enters a new region and begins the first major retail project in Manitoba in the company’s his-tory. “This is a great entrance for us into the Winnipeg retail market,” says Mo Bundon, Senior VP and COO of Harvard Developments. “Although it’s our first major re-tail project in Manitoba, we’re very familiar with the Win-nipeg market and believe it’s an incredible opportunity to build on our platform and portfolio for years to come.”

SIZEThe eventual build out of Seasons will be done upon nearly 117 acres of prime Winnipeg real estate, making it the largest retail development in our company’s port-folio. For a frame of reference, our Grasslands retail site in Regina is a 90 acre development while our Currents of Windermere project in Edmonton comes in at 100 acres. In terms of square footage, Outlet Collection Winnipeg alone will boast nearly 400,000 sq.ft. of retail space, with the entire project designed to reach 1,000,000 sq.ft.

COST With a price tag of $200 million, Outlet Collection Win-nipeg will be a joint investment between the three part-ners, although it will be Ivanhoé Cambridge who will oversee the development and management of the out-let mall.

THE HILL STREET NEWS | OCTOBER 2015 | PAGE 8

OFFERINGOutlet Collection Winnipeg will be Manitoba’s first pure outlet shopping destination, offering more than 400,000 sq.ft. (37,100 m2) of shopping, featur-ing over 100 popular outlet brands. It will feature warm natural finishes, innovative day-lighting strategies, bold graphic patterning and materials to create a unique and exciting shopping and dining environment.

The remainder of the site will see commercial retail space development totalling approximately 50 acres, some of which has already been announced as a hotel and luxury automotive dealership. In ad-dition, there will be 19 acres of residential develop-ment in the northwest corner of the site which will further complement the retail portion.

ECONOMIC IMPACTOnce completed, the project is expected to have an incredibly large impact on the Winnipeg economy. “Not only are we bringing a new and exciting shop-ping experience to Winnipeg, we are also proud to invest in the creation of several hundred new jobs during and after construction,” declared Paul Glee-son, Executive Vice President, Global Development at Ivanhoé Cambridge. “Outlet Collection Winnipeg will complement existing and future surrounding commercial development through attractive land-scaping, intuitive wayfinding, comfortable public spaces and integrated public transit.”

SCHEDULEOutlet Collection Winnipeg has been tagged with a tar-geted open date of May 2017. That gives construction crews and the development team roughly 20 months to complete the anchor building, with the remainder of the site following through accordingly.

As you can tell, it’s a special time for our Harvard real estate team; a time that only comes around every so often. Breaking ground on a new project, especially one of this size and in a completely new region, hopefully fills all of you with a sense of pride, optimism and ex-citement for the future of our company and our people. It wasn’t that long ago that we were digging shovels into the ground at Grasslands and our Windermere projects, and many of our people still recall the excite-ment that came along with those projects. Now that those projects are nearing completion, it’s time to step forward into the next chapter of our company’s future and be excited for what is yet to come!

There’s a popular belief out in the business world that you should always try and visualize your busi-ness as a living, breathing organism; one that is con-stantly changing and adapting to its surroundings to survive. So I’d like to ask you to pause for a mo-ment and think of the Hill Companies in this way. Can you picture the manufacturing arm of UFR and Harvard Integrations? How about the trusty leg of Harvard Western Insurance and Western Surety? Or the smooth voice of Harvard Broadcasting? As you can see, our group of companies can make up a liv-ing organism quite well, even if we are 113 years old. But let’s go deeper in our anatomy lesson and look at the inner workings of our companies from a finan-cial perspective. Connecting each of our companies are veins that carry the lifeblood of our business: fi-nancing, credit, and necessary capital to ensure each one runs smoothly and has the flexibility to perform its best. And of course, at the center of it all, is this month’s employee spotlight Pauline Wagner, who, in many ways, could be considered the heart of the Hill Companies organism.

Having grown up on a family farm between Sedley and Lajord in rural Saskatchewan, Pauline’s love of numbers and early start in accounting was forged as she watched her parents work to balance the books every year. “I knew what I was going to do right then and there” says Pauline, as she recalls her first experiences with accounting on the farm. This passion only grew from there, to the point where she decided to pursue an education and career in the practice and made the trek to the city lights of Regina as a student of the University of Regina. In addition to her studies, Pauline also joined the Co-operative Education (Co-op) Program where she en-joyed stints at accounting firms KPMG and MNP; the latter of which she would stick with and rise to the

role of Tax Manager after obtaining her Chartered Ac-countant designation. But just as she was carving out a great start to her career with MNP, a new opportunity presented itself to Pauline in the form of the Corporate Controller position with Harvard Developments. Follow-ing interviews with Terry Downie and Hiedi Pearson, as well as meeting Mo Bundon, Pauline knew this is where she wanted to be. The feeling has been mutual ever since. “I was initially drawn to the Hill Companies because of the growth potential and ability to work on a wide range of projects in a wide range of businesses,” comments Pauline. “There is no other employer in the city that can offer this type of work environment and diversity…..and in my nine years since, I can honestly say my career with Harvard and the Hill Companies has been all of this and so much more.”

As mentioned before, the Corporate Controller position can widely be considered one of the most important roles within our company (or the heart, if you’re still on board with the living organism metaphor). If finances and cash flow are considered the lifeblood of our busi-ness, then Pauline would be the heart as most of this ultimately runs through our corporate accounting team (who Pauline says is an incredible and gifted bunch). As you probably guessed, it takes a special kind of person like Pauline to tackle this responsibility and cover off the wide range of tasks that come with the role, which in-clude:

• Tax and financial planning initiatives

• Assisting in the preparation of five year budgets and cash projections

• Implementing & maintaining adequate and effective internal controls

• Ensuring effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to

ensure timely and accurate financial reporting

• Participating in financing and treasury management decisions

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with tax laws, rules, and regulations

If Terry Downie was an ice cream flavour, what would he be: “I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING, AN-OTHER VANILLA ACCOUNTANT. WRONG! HE’S MORE LIKE ROCKY ROAD....SWEET, COMPLEX AND A LITTLE NUTTY!”

Another dimension to Pauline’s role is that, despite being a 113 year old organism, we are always in growth mode and looking to take on new endeavours in every area of business. This adds another layer of complexity when dealing with cash flow handling and reporting, in addition to the added accounting and tax work that comes with each new property or business we add to our portfolio.

Much like a heart, Pauline never skips a beat in her time outside of the office either. Free time is scarce for the wife and mother of two young boys (four-year-old Dylan and soon to be two-year-old Andrew), but when the time comes she plans on spending it gardening in her backyard. What you may not know about Pauline though is she also has an “extreme” side to her, and is known for her ability to shred dirt on the dirtbike and her love of fast cars.

When asked where she’d like to work if not with Harvard, Pauline shared a surprising, yet thrifty response. “It may sound funny, but my dream job (if not at Harvard) would be to work at Winners! That way I could get first dibs on all the new inventory and I would get the employee discount.”

When Pauline looks back over her nine years with the Hill Companies, she’s able to sum it up with one perfect word. “Stimulating,” says Pauline. “I’ve been able to do so many incredible things in this company that I would never have been able to do anywhere else. The people I work with and for are incredible, and each day is always different which really helps keep things fresh and challenging”

How is it mid-November already? It seems as though we have gone from being surrounded by a mound of Hal-loween candy and suddenly, we are at a turning point. We are faced with the reality that the days are shorter, the temperatures are colder and the mad rush into the holidays is imminent. The final quarter of the year is always an exciting time of year as we prepare for tenant holiday events, finish current year projects and begin planning for the New Year. Our teams have recently completed another budget season and the Client meetings to approve budgets have taken place. With those undertakings behind us, ac-counting is preparing for year-end audits; administration is finalizing 2016 tenant invoices and operations are wrapping up 2015 projects.

Our Edmonton office wrapped up their Annual United Way Campaign on November 13th and are proud to an-nounce the results of another impressive campaign. This year’s campaign was led by Shyanne White and Wendy Deneault (as Co-ECC’s), with Esther Dsouza joining the Committee to provide some additional assistance and support. Thanks to a last minute donation, our team out in Edmonton raised an incredible $7,000 for the United Way, and when you add in their corporate donation match, comes to a grand total of over $12,500!! Way to go Edmonton!

Since our last update, we were pleased to welcome the following new team members to Property Management: In late August, the Regina downtown operations team was joined by two new members - Shawn Michon and Chase Bourassa began their roles of Building Operator and Maintenance Assistant respectively looking after Mosaic Tower. In September, Etta Wang was introduced as our property accounting co-op student in Regina. Etta is an accounting major at the Paul J. Hill School of Business and will be with us for an eight month work term. Jamie Sandsmark officially joined the Calgary team in her existing position of Receptionist/Administra-tive Assistant. Jamie originally came to Eau Claire in a temporary role during Jenny Brown’s maternity leave. When Jenny decided not to return to work, Jamie was offered the position, and she accepted. In Winnipeg, we were pleased to welcome Kelly Clement as Senior Property Administrator at the end of October. Welcome to all our new personnel, and thank you for choosing Harvard!

Congratulations to Chris Johnson, his wife Leann and big sister Madeleine. On October 24th, they welcomed another beautiful little girl to their family. Gabrielle Elizabeth Croft-Johnson arrived safely weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. Pictures of the new addition can be found in the “groundbreaking news” section of the newsletter.

Craig Parisien was recently promoted to the position of Senior Build-ing Operator for our downtown Regina properties. Craig joined Har-vard in September, 2013 and quickly became an excellent resource for his team members. Congratulations on your advancement Craig!

Finally, we would like to recognize an Edmonton property management employee who reached a significant milestone in his length of service with Harvard on November 1. Congratulations to Tony Prsa on his 25th year with the Company. Thank you for your many contributions and loyalty!

Chris Buehrer has about as specific a skill set as we could ask for in a mold-ed pulp plant. Chris has a Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science & Engineer-ing from the Miami University of Ohio and a Masters of the same from the Institute of Paper Science & Technology (Georgia Tech). In addition to his formal education, Chris also has a wealth of experience having worked for a similar packaging company for over a decade before joining us. We were thrilled when Chris came to work at UFP in Brook, Indiana just shortly after construction of the plant was complete.

As Technical Director, Chris is responsible for the management of the manufacturing process itself, the plant’s Information and Control systems, and our Quality and Food Product Safety systems. Among Chris’ major achievements here at UFP are the implementation of our “Pi” system which collects data on the process which can in turn be used to optimize the system or to troubleshoot. Chris led the project to achieve our Safe Quality Food (“SQF”) certification. Chris is the guy who comes to our rescue when a computer crashes or misbehaves.

Currently, Chris is working on developing and programming a new robotic palletizing system for UFP. This is a very large project involving the integration of vision, con-veyor and wrapping systems. Chris has named our first two robots “Batman” and “Robin”. “The Joker” has also arrived and is being set up.

Chris has been married to his wife Missy for 23 years and they have a busy life as parents of two teenagers – Claire, 16 and Nathan, 14. They are all actively involved in music and church activi-ties. If and when Chris has spare time, he loves to spend it playing video games.

HARVARD INTEGRATIONSby: Adam Aasen

The business and reputation of Harvard Integrations is built around one word: quality. It’s what sets us apart from our competitors and earns the trust of our customers. It’s also why we are thrilled to announce we have taken this reputation another step further and successfully received ISO 9001:2008 certification for our operations in Tea, South Dakota.

For those wondering what ISO 9001:2008 is, it is a quality management certification that measures a company on its ability to meet and exceed the needs of its customers and stakeholders while also meeting the legal requirements of its industry.

For us here at Harvard Integrations, being ISO 9001:2008 certified will im-prove and establish our business in many key ways. It helps us identify where we can improve efficiencies in our processes, reduces our costs, pro-vide continuous assessment and improvement, and sends a positive message to our staff. In terms of our custom-ers, it will help us improve our quality and service while also reducing delivery wait times and product returns.

This is a major achievement for all of us at Harvard Integrations as we continually look for ways to improve our product and business.

Planning continues for a new 1,705 acre neighbourhood north of the Greens on Gardiner in South East Regina. The major landowners are working with urban planners and engineers to develop a master planned community with a regional retail center named Aurora located at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Tower Road. Background engineering studies, and community stakeholder engagements are on-

going as the submission is prepared for the City.

For more information visit, ShopatAurora.ca

Harvard Developments’ latest joint venture project, Westerra, is the first new mixed use neighbourhood approved for development in the City of Regina. Situated on the west side of the city between Courtney Street and Pinkie Road, Westerra will be a 490 acre “complete community” with a mix of residential, retail and commercial uses.

A Minor Concept Plan Amendment and the re-zoning of the first phase of Westerra was approved by Regina Planning Com-mission on August 5, 2015, and then passed by Regina City Council on August 31, 2015. The city’s approval of engineering plans is expected this fall.

Topsoil stripping for the initial stage is now complete, and Sask Energy is on site upgrading their infrastructure to accom-modate for the new community. A Westerra site office has been located on the site and will soon be open to the public. Installa-tion of major sewer and sanitary services is anticipated to com-mence in October 2015. Commercial and multi-family parcels, as well as residential lots are expected to be serviced during the summer of 2016, with residential show homes opening in the fall of 2016.

For more information visit, WesterraRegina.ca

Horizons is the retail portion of Westerra and will feature large format retail, a community retail shop-ping district, and boutique shops on Main Street. Horizons Main Street compliments the pedestrian friendly design of the Westerra community and achieves the “LIVE, WORK, SHOP & PLAY” nature of the overall project.

For more information visit, ShopatHorizons.ca

Seasons continues to generate substantial tenant interest in all aspects of the project. Our joint ven-

ture with Ivanhoé Cambridge for the construction of a 400,000 square foot enclosed fashion outlet

mall is progressing nicely. The outlet mall is approximately 65% pre-leased to an array of an elite

group of fashion retail tenants. Construction is now underway and we anticipate a spring 2017 open-

ing. On the balance of the site, we have secured a hotel, two luxury automotive dealerships and have

sold approximately 19 acres of land to three residential developers. Leasing on the balance of the

50 acres of land is ongoing; however, tenants are reluctant to fully commit until they know the exact

opening date of the outlet mall.

HOT 107 & 95.7 CRUZ FM - Edmonton, Alberta Melanie Raessler

Make a Wish Foundation enlisted the help of Hot 107 to make a 15 year old’s wish come true. Brayden has stage five chronic kidney disease, and his wish was to become a DJ. Brayden, aka DJ B-R33L$, was set up with his very own DJ kit and played a “sold out” gig to local DJs, musicians, and dancers! HOT 107 also invited “DJ-B-R33L$” to play live on air in the :107Min HOTMix along-side some of Edmonton’s HOTTEST DJs! Sometimes the best memories in ra-dio are when we are able to make a difference in a young person’s life.

95.7 CRUZ FM’s Crosbie & Cross became superheroes for a day as they rappelled down the side of a downtown Edmonton hotel! All funds raised during the event will support children and adults with disabilities and special needs in Alberta through equipment and camp programs of Easter Seals Alberta.

As the new home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Saskatoon, Cruz FM partnered with Molson Coors to help “Paint Saskatoon Green” for six Riders Games this football Season. The “Saskatchewan Roughriders Tailgate Tour” presented by Cruz FM & Molson Coors made stops at 3 different sports bars in Saskatoon, for six various Rider games between June and October. At each event, Rider fans were entertained by games and tons of prize giveaways by Cruz and Molson. We started each tailgate party two hours prior to game kick-off, and gave away prizes including a BBQ, Custom Rider Jersey, tickets to upcoming Rider games and more. Cruz listeners and Rider fans are already looking forward to the next event!

Fort McMurray was once again full of events over the summer season. MIX 103.7 & 100.5 CRUZ FM were both exclusive sponsors of the first ever monster truck shows in town. The newly built facility, Shell Place saw two nights of monster truck and dirt bike excitement as the Monster X Tour made a stop in the city. Both stations participated in exciting on-air give-aways including a scavenger hunt for toy monster trucks and live broad-casts on event days. The event was the first time the newly opened Shell Place has sold out.

Sadly we said goodbye to our Receptionist Susie Thursby and one of our News Reporters, Taylor Pope. But we welcomed our new Receptionist Corrie Anderson, News Reporter Chris Vandenbreekel and Engineer Mat-thew Lysak. We also wished congratulations to one of our Sales Execu-tives, Brianne Harris (now Brianne Oke), who recently got married, as well as our Promotions Director, Marshall Whitsed. We wish Brianne, Chris, Marshall & Sarah all the best in their new lives!

The Fort McMurray crew is busy preparing for the winter season and one of our bigger series of events of the year – the Northern Lights Health Foundation’s Festival of Trees. Spread out over four days, the event has both stations involved with a number of on air contests and events. Events include an Ugly Christmas Sweater Par-ty and Gala with a live & silent auction. Funds raised at these events go to support the work of our local hospital.

GX94 & FOX FM - Yorkton, Saskatchewan Kelsey Liebricht

GX94 just wrapped up the 23rd Annual fall Edition of “Supper In The Field”. On every Wednesday for the last six weeks, we travelled across Saskatchewan & Manitoba delivering supper for farmers and 20 of their friends. Along with the supper, our winners also received prizes from sponsors as well as the exclusive “Supper in the Field” Flag.

FOX FM teamed up with the Yorkton Fire Department once again this year to recognize Fire Prevention Week. Will & Reader were live-on-location for a pan-cake breakfast welcoming the city down to the Fire Hall to enjoy breakfast and check out the hall and trucks. So of course, we had to check out the trucks and see what they can do.

XFEST CANCELLED X92.9’s 5th Annual music festival XFEST, scheduled for September 5th & 6th, was cancelled this year due to adverse weather conditions. 24 hours of heavy rain created an unsafe environment for concert goers and before the gates were opened the festival organizers cancelled the event. The two-day festival was to play host to Hozier, Tenacious D and a special appearance by Alexisonfire plus many more bands.

X92.9 was broadcasting live from the venue & delivered the unfortunate news. Morning show hosts Tyler & Lynch also passed along the news via a video which was posted on all social media sites: https://youtu.be/1IrtNWpJETw

All ticket holders for XFEST were able to redeem their tickets in Edmonton at Sonic Boom Festival which featured the same artist line up as XFest while still receiving a full refund.

JAIL-N-BAIL On October 7, Tyler & Lynch from X Mornings played judge for a day at the annual Jail-n-Bail event; a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Those arrested would plead their case hoping for a fair bail. Money raised from the event funds the most promising cancer research, supportive care to people living with cancer, comprehensive cancer information, prevention initiatives and advocacy for healthy public policy.

JUST VOTE DAMMIT In preparation of the 42nd General Election on October 19, X92.9 asked its listeners to #JUST VOTE DAMMIT and created the web page www.justvoteddammit.com. Through social media sites, digital billboards and on air support X92.9 directed Calgarians to it as their one stop shop for all things required for election day. In February 2014, the “Fair Elections Act” was introduced which amongst many topics, limits Elections Canada in how they advertise the upcoming election including any campaigns that encourage young voter turnout. This is unfortunate because the truth is 18-24 year old and 25-34 year old voter turnout are still the lowest demographics out there when it comes time to cast a ballot. So for those who had never voted before or needed a quick refresher JustVoteDammit.com was their link to the Elections Canada website.

Thank you to Cam Cowie and Jason Huschi for manning the grills (Pictured Below).
