HEAT & GLO® CASE STUDY
FEATURING THE COSMO DIRECT VENT GAS FIREPLACE
PROJECT SNAPSHOT
THE PROJECTTasked with bringing the interior of this 3,363 square foot custom home to life, designer Jennifer Crome of State Street Interiors and Furnishings knew leveraging timeless materials and finishes was critical to allow the overall character of the architecture to remain current for years to come.
One of the main areas of focus for Jennifer was the home’s living room. The client wanted a horizontal fireplace, a style often used for projects seeking a modern look, but the home’s overall style was decidedly classic. Jennifer was challenged with specifying and sourcing a horizontal fireplace that could be fused with traditional elements and complement the rest of the home’s intended design theme.
This goal was achieved by surrounding the COSMO gas fireplace, a popular linear model from Heat & Glo, with stunning transitional components that work well with both classic and modern styles. Featuring clean lines and sleek configuration, the COSMO fireplace was the ideal choice for this mid-range home seeking a hearth model that wouldn’t overshadow the materials around it.
These included a custom ledgestone surround, selected for its coordinating blue, grey, and cream hues and its horizontal shape that mimicked the lines of the fireplace. Flanked by custom floating cabinets, a chunky mantel, and light-reflective décor (including horizontal artwork as a focal point and shimmering metallic accessories), Jennifer was able to deliver a space that met the client’s style goals while also giving the room ambiance and a stunning design feature.

TIPS FOR SPECIFYING LINEAR GAS FIREPLACES
Architects and designers who specify interior products and materials should be aware of the options and accessories that should be included in their fireplace specs. The list below details crucial product features that should be assessed to ensure the fireplace matches seamlessly with the greater architectural and design style of the space.
B. BURN MEDIA Burn media (or simply “media”) refers to logs, crushed glass, stones, beads, and other non-combustible materials that are placed in the interior firebox to complement the flame and reinforce the fireplace as the focal point of your room.
A. FRONT OPTIONS Most linear models have multiple front options, and those fronts come in multiple color finishes. Consider the color and weight of your front when choosing a linear model. Sometimes a wider front may be appropriate, while other times a minimalistic, nearly no-show front is best.
C. REFLECTIVE LINER/INTERIORSLiners and refractories add luster to the overall firebox and help amplify the effect of the ribbon flames that are so enticing on linear models.
D. CONTROLSSelect a linear model with both wall switch options and a remote control to turn the unit on and off and adjust heat and other settings and features. If you’re designing a residential or commercial property for senior citizens or those with unique needs, make sure to specify a linear model with a remote to ensure accessibility.

LINEAR GAS FIREPLACES
Linear fireplaces come in a wide range of sizes; choose the model series that best matches the type of home or commercial property you are designing. For entry-level homes, specify basic models. For move-up and custom homes, choose a premium product like the PRIMO or MEZZO for a more sophisticated fit, feel, and finish. Linear models like the Palazzo and Lanai are specifically made for outdoor applications.
