ACI’s Global Training welcomes you to 2016!
As we know, continuing education is essential to the safe, secure and sustainable leader-
ship and development of airports. The amount of knowledge required in our various roles
cannot be obtained simply through on-the-job experience.
The knowledge and skills we require in the dynamic airport business continue to change
rapidly in a world where customer-centric airport management varies from government-run
to fully privatized models. With this in mind, it is clear that going forward there will be an in-
creasing need to demonstrate ongoing education and competency in both airport leadership
and operations.
For ACI’s Global Training (GT) department, keeping abreast of current and upcoming
change has given us the ability to lead by serving our members and World Business Part-
ners with high-quality educational programmes.
What can ACI Members look forward to in 2016?
To put this into practical terms and to ensure we provide our members with the best training
services to make 2016 a successful year, I would like to provide you with an update of what
the GT has in store for this year:
The addition of two new training centers to serve you better:
Sangster International Airport – Montego Bay, Jamaica
San Francisco International Airport – California, USA
Hosting of the 2016 Airport Executive Leadership Programme at Miami International
Airport, 5–10 June 2016
Multiple iterations of the ever popular ACI-ICAO Airport Management Professional Ac-
creditation Programme (AMPAP)
Introduction of the ACI Accredited Training Institutes programme
New classroom and online course development in the areas of customer service, eco-
nomics, safety and security

ACI Accredited Training Institute initiative
By John Webster, Senior Manager, Global Training
The ACI Accredited Training Institute (ATI) initiative is a network of airport training
units that offer performance-based, up-to-date courses and other learning activities
accredited by ACI that meet international standards for quality in workplace learning.
The purpose of the ACI ATI initiative is to help airport training departments develop
and offer quality learning opportunities that fully meet internationally recognized
standards for excellence in workplace learning. The project reflects the fundamental
principles that (a) on-going learning is a key component of organizational success; (b)
learning at work is about improving human performance; and (c) all performance im-
provements must reflect recognized standards.
The term “standard” commonly refers to one or more rules determined by an authority
to measure the quantity, quality, value or some other aspect of something. Standards
are also models for effective action; promoting standards therefore means adopting a
model of what can be done and how it can be accomplished. For workplace learning,
standards refer to human performance. Training standards reflect the models used to
create learning activities and ensure they are carried out effectively and efficiently.
Standards exist that define effective workplace learning, how it should be developed
and implemented, and what should be the corresponding duties and responsibilities of
practitioners. In particular, standards have been developed for:
instructional design;
instructional delivery and facilitation;
measurement and testing; and
management of learning activities.

ACI Accredited Training Institute initiative (continued)
ACI expects each institution seeking accreditation under this programme to first
demonstrate the adoption and implementation of relevant standards. The main pur-
pose of ACI’s accreditation programme is therefore to work cooperatively with airport
training departments to create quality learning activities that lead to measurable hu-
man performance improvement in the areas of:
safety;
security;
economics;
environment;
facilitation; and
airport operations.

ACI Accredited Training Institute initiative (continued)
To achieve this purpose, ACI has set up a mechanism to:
receive and review relevant documentation to confirm that training
meets documented needs, that courses or other learning activities were
prepared in accordance with approved methods and standards, and that
they achieve expected outcomes;
confirm that facilitators are accredited by a recognized authority and
therefore qualified to lead instructional activities;
manage a process to continually measure results and confirm that learn-
ing activities offered through the ATI network continue to meet estab-
lished objectives and standards;
identify partner institutions that can offer, adapt or translate ACI courses
as needed; and
market locally developed accredited courses through the ATI network.
The benefits of belonging to this network include:
global airport industry recognition for meeting international standards of
excellence in training for course design, content and delivery;
issuance of ACI co-branded certificates to students who successfully
complete the approved ACI training programmes;
web and publication listings as an ACI ATI;
permission to use the ACI ATI logo for specified promotions and ap-
proved ACI courses;
eligibility to become an official ACI Training Centre, if not already the
case; and
eligibility for existing ACI Training Centres to get ATI status and receive
a preferential discounted on the annual ATI membership fee.

ACI Accredited Training Institute initiative (continued)
ACI is pleased to announce that this initiative has been officially launched in 2016 with
many of our member airports showing significant interest in being active participants.
From the end of last year, we have had two ACI Training Centres in Europe and Asia
that have been involved in the pilot and testing phase to become an ATI, and each or-
ganization is at different stages in the validation process.

ACI Developing Nations Airport Assistance Programme 2016
seminars
By Melisa Monje, Manager, Global Training
With the continued growth of aviation worldwide, the need to increase airport excel-
lence in the fields of management, economics, safety, security and operations in de-
veloping countries is also growing. In order for ACI to play an even stronger role and
to increase the capacity already provided by the semi-annual ACI Fund seminars, the
World Governing Board has approved the creation of an additional programme known
as the ACI Developing Nations Airport (DNA) Assistance Programme.
The DNA Assistance Programme’s objective is to support member airports in develop-
ing countries through offering no-cost and low-cost training and capacity-building that
supports other ACI initiatives.

What’s on the training horizon for 2016?
We’re offering a new study guide, new courses and more languages.
ACI’s Online Learning Centre (OLC) is looking ahead with great excitement. We have
been working hard to develop a new study guide, new safety courses and more lan-
guages by offering many of our existing safety courses in both French and Spanish.
New study guide for the Airport Operations Diploma Programme
(AODP)
Due to popular demand, we are developing a study guide for our industry-leading Air-
port Operations Diploma Programme (AODP).
The study guide will assist students by providing them with a summary of key con-
cepts and facilitating the practical application of these concepts to their local airport
environments.
Due for release in mid-2016, the study guide will be integrated into the curriculum of
all new AODP enrolments. It will also be available on a complimentarily basis to all ex-
isting AODP students through their OLC account.
