Race 1

#2 Gasconade

#8 Honduras

#7 Majestic Fever

#6 Watch This

#2 GASCONADE spent the majority of 2019 racing

against non-threes between the $15,000 and $40,000

levels, and is now dropped in for $7,500 for his 2020

opener. His closing style could be beneficial in this race

with an abundance of potential speed, and he has been

competitive against better foes in the past. #8

HONDURAS returned at Oaklawn in April after a four

month-break, faltering badly after dueling on the lead for

a half-mile. If he can get back to the form he had in

Kentucky last summer he should be a serious factor. #7

MAJESTIC FEVER is similar to Gasconade in that he is a

closer who could take advantage of a potential pace

meltdown. He started off 2019 in good form before tailing

off in the fall; he could improve now that he is fresh. #6

WATCH THIS is one of two Colebrook Farms entrants

returning from a winter in Ohio in good form. He was able

to start showing speed at Mahoning Valley; he has some

better races over the Tapeta than his stablemate, Eyes

Forward.

Race 2

#1 French Charm - Best Bet

#5 Joy’s Solution

#8 Purple Scooter

#7 Cassie’s Rainbow

#1 FRENCH CHARM showed flashes of talent during her

two year old season. Her final start of the season was a

notable one, engaging in a three-way battle before being

outkicked by a well-meant second second time starter

and losing second behind a tripped-out stalker. She has

the advantage of speed without needing the lead to run

effectively. #5 JOY’S SOLUTION ran a few respectable

races against legitimate competition last year. Her lone

Tapeta start of 2019 was a well-beaten fourth, and while

it is likely that she is better on turf it does not appear that

she is void of ability over the main track. #8 PURPLE

SCOOTER had a chance at good stalking position in her

debut at Turfway in March, but was hustled to to the lead

before a ¼ mile was completed, then began to falter on

the turn. A more patient ride could help this horse

significantly; do not ignore at a large price. #7 CASSIE’S

RAINBOW had been off-and-on at the start of her 2019

campaign, but really began to find her own towards the

end of the year, closing out the season with a close finish

against males. Owner Austin Hinds now assumes training

duties.

Race 3

#5 Victor’s Destiny

#4 Bexar

#2 Mc Culley

#1 Our Zuma

#5 VICTOR’S DESTINY returned from a three month-

break in December in good form, finishing second behind

scoring an easy win nine days later. He then travelled to

Ohio where he was completely flat over the dirt. Half-

brother Forester’s Destiny has also been empty over

conventional dirt; a rebound is not out of the question. #4

BEXAR will likely be a very heavy favourite here. He was

a wire-to-wire winner against $30,000 three year olds at

Turfway in January, then finished a well beaten third

against first level allowance three year olds. If he breaks

on top he will likely prove very tough to beat. #2 MC

CULLEY had five consecutive good efforts to start off the

2019 season before coming up flat on October 19. He

was then put away for the remainder of the season. He

will continue to wear bar shoes. #1 OUR ZUMA made up

good ground to finish second on closing day last year. His

debut aside he has not run a bad race.

Race 4

#2 Candy’s Dream

#10 Fairywren

#1 Words of Gold

#4 Feeling Funny

#2 CANDY’S DREAM made two attempts on turf last

year, getting unfavourable, three-wide trips both times.

She does have some tactical speed and has a shot at a

much better trip from this post. #10 FAIRYWREN was

impressive when running a very game second on debut in

New Orleans, then ran a reasonable third behind a first

time starter who was able to control the pace on February

21. Her debut was scheduled for the turf and she now

gets an opportunity to try the grass. #1 WORDS OF

GOLD showed speed after a subpar break and looked

tough to beat in midstretch when debuting in November

but was run down late by a heavily favoured second time

starter. She appears to have some talent but is at risk of

getting involved in a pace duel. #4 FEELING FUNNY is

another potential speed type here. She stalked a blazing

pace when trying the Gulfstream turf in January, but had

to fight in the stretch with one of the pacesetters before

being picked up by a deep closer. Her return in April over

a sloppy track was a non-effort.

Race 5

#10 Sterling Speed

#7 The Good Witch

#2 Hello Friends

#6 Livin in the Six

#10 STERLING SPEED ran three consecutive good

efforts between September and December, facing some

respectable two year old fillies. She appears to want to

come from off of the pace and catches a field with a

handful of potential early speed types. #7 THE GOOD

WITCH debuted in the first two year old race of our 2019

season, finishing second behind the dominant Wesley

Ward second-timer Owlette, who went on to win a pair of

stakes. She was put away in the fall after a series of

tough trips in very difficult company and could be

dangerous as she returns fresh. #2 HELLO FRIENDS did

not run a bad race in her three attempts last year. She

really appeared to excel when being allowed to settle

early and make a run, notably finishing second in a solid

maiden allowance group on December 13. This is an

easier assignment. #6 LIVIN IN THE SIX, a daughter of

Society’s Chairman, has been training in Florida. She has

a significant gap in her works from March 15 to May 3.

Race 6

#2 Souper Smart

#5 Reconfigure

#3 Wyatt’s Town

#6 Circle of Friends

#2 SOUPER SMART had a solid campaign in 2019

despite going winless in six starts, finishing second four

times including two finishes behind the extremely tough

Brass Compass. He is one of several players in a wide

open affair. #5 RECONFIGURE returned from a series of

bizarre layoffs to have an impressive seven year old

campaign, including a narrow defeat in the Grade 2

Neartic five starts after being claimed for $25,000.

Although he appears to be a step better on the turf his

synthetic races have been very solid, and he has been

able to win off of two (very) long layoffs in the past. #3

WYATT’S TOWN has been capable of setting blistering

paces over the Tapeta in the past. He had success in

age-restricted Stakes as a three year old but seemed to

find the jump into deeper, older company significantly

tougher last year. In spite of that he was able to put in

some good efforts, including a third behind Pink Lloyd in

the Vigil; potentially very dangerous if he can make the

front. #6 CIRCLE OF FRIENDS was a winner of a similar

race on the opening day of the 2019 meet, although that

field was not as tough as this. His form was up and down

last season but he still attracted a $62,500 claim in

November, and although he has only two posted

workouts, trainer Donald MacRae did have a string in

Ocala over the winter, where this horse likely was.

Race 7

#10 Steady Earner

#6 Majestic Slew

#2 Colleen’s Sailor

#8 Marriage Counselor

#10 STEADY EARNER will make his synthetic debut off

of not bad form in Florida. His most recent race, a

conditioned $5,000 claimer, was won by an in-form class

dropper; he may have the coveted fitness edge. #6

MAJESTIC SLEW is a gelding with lots of back class. He

does his best racing when he is able to control the pace,

scoring both of his wins in 2019 when getting to the front;

if he can outsprint Tobruk he may be able to go the

distance. #2 COLLEEN’S SAILOR ran a number of good

races last year including two closing wins; that closing

style could come in handy if Majestic Slew and Tobruk

hook up in a duel. His season opener was not as bad as

it might appear; the winner was a solid, winter-fit horse,

and the runner up returned to win a first level allowance.

It was likely a much tougher race than this. #8

MARRIAGE COUNSELOR was in great form the first half

of 2019 when racing at Mahoning Valley and Fort Erie,

with three wins and a notable third behind Sniper. His

season ended in July when coming up empty in a turf

route at the Fort; he is a capable sprinter and has not run

on the synthetic since 2018.

Race 8

#12 Wake Up Maggie

#2 Ladies Signature

#11 Princess Fabiana

#3 Sea Lily

#12 WAKE UP MAGGIE spent most of her 2019 season

knocking heads with some of the best juvenile fillies to

race in Ontario last year, including Fast Scene and

Owlette. Her only poor showing came when routing in the

South Ocean; she appears to be a major threat. #2

LADIES SIGNATURE was able to beat a soft field when

debuting on opening day last year, then was shelved for

four months. She ran well in three of her four starts

returning from that layoff; she is capable of setting quick

fractions or sitting off of the pace. #11 PRINCESS

FABIANA stalked a quick pace when breaking her

maiden last June, then returned to be fifth in a good

group of non-twos on the inner turf. She has been on the

shelf since last July. #3 SEA LILY was a bit even finishing

in her first two starts last year but was able to control the

pace and draw off to an easy win for $25,000 as a two

year old. There appears to be some potential but this is a

tougher spot.

Race 9

#7 Amalfi Coast

#3 Get Explicit

#2 Souper Escape

#5 Red Cabernet

#7 AMALFI COAST wrapped up her three year old

season with three consecutive stakes wins, including an

impressive closing effort in the Bessarabian. This will be

the toughest group she has faced over the turf but she

certainly stands out. #3 GET EXPLICIT is a hard-luck

horse who is frequently in extremely tough races and/or

taking the brunt of bad trips that end up costing her wins.

She is drawn well here and is capable of being more

forwardly placed that her recent longer races would

suggest. #2 SOUPER ESCAPE shipped here in

September to beat three year olds in the La Lorgnette.

She is capable on turf but a case can be made she may

be better on the synthetic; however she is a serious

speed threat from the inside. #5 RED CABERNET was in

some very tough spots to start off the 2019 season but

rounded into form when she got around two turns in the

Eternal Search, which was run over this course. This is

likely a better spot for her to kick off the season than last

year’s Ballade, where she hooked Summer Sunday.

Race 10

#8 Fact Checking

#2 Artie’s Princess

#5 Fresh Princess

#10 Bonnie Lee

#8 FACT CHECKING had a very solid 2019 season,

racing predominantly as a closer in these shorter sprints.

She was able to fire well fresh last year and there

appears to be no shortage of pace to set things up for

her. #2 ARTIE’S PRINCESS was a convincing winner of

her first two starts as a two year old, but was pressured

on the lead when facing males in the Frost King and

could not hold off the ground saving, stalking winner. She

will be the inside speed here but may have to fight with

Sothatsthewayitis and Real Coal. #5 FRESH PRINCESS

returned from an extended layoff in November. She had a

wide trip and hung after making a bid in a tough group in

her first start, then ran two very credible thirds. Like Fact

Checking she will be hoping to take advantage of a pace

meltdown. #10 BONNIE LEE was able to win at first

asking in a so-so group of three year olds, then flattened

out when facing much tougher second time out. She was

then able to win on the inner turf in August before being

put on the shelf; she clearly has some talent but I would

not be surprised if turf was her preferred surface.

Race 11

#14 I’m a Ginger

#11 Miss Matilda

#6 Miss Verrazano

#1 Ezme’sgirl

#3 Shishka

#14 I’M A GINGER ran very well in her first two local

starts, but did not take well to Gulfstream Park, where her

only good effort was a second in a notably soft bunch of

$12,500 foes. Although she does not draw well, she

should have a fitness advantage and will appreciate

returning to the Tapeta. #11 MISS MATILDA debuted last

year as a five year old and had a few respectable closing

efforts. Her speed figures are competitive for this group.

#6 MISS VERRAZANO has raced only on turf in her four

starts to date and each race has come against

significantly tougher foes. She has some early speed; the

synthetic may prove to be beneficial for her. #1

EZME’SGIRL was a well beaten third behind a pair of

respectable foes when debuting over the Tapeta, then

was shelved three starts later when coming up empty in a

turf route in September. #3 SHISHKA was able to pick up

several checks for these connections after they

purchased her privately in August. She had a long

campaign last year and may be better fresh.
