January 7, 2018:  The Epiphany of the Lord ‐ La Epifanía del Señor

Coordinator’s Corner ‐ Esquina del Coordinador

This weekend we celebrate the great feast of the

Epiphany. Depending on the par cular year and the

calendar, the following Sunday might be to celebrate

the feast of The Bap sm of our Lord. However, this

year it falls on this Monday, January 8.

Many of us have no recollection of the most important

faith event of our lives: our baptism. Baptism connects

us with the Church, the Body of Christ. It makes us

one with Christ and one with each other. Bap sm is

not a one‐time event but the beginning of a dynamic

ongoing rela onship with the Lord and His people.

The Holy Spirit is given to us to strengthen us on our

faith journey and to empower us to use the gi s that

God has given to us. In the Gospel on Monday a

voice is heard to proclaim at the Bap sm of Jesus,

“You are my beloved Son, on you my favor rests.”

We, like Christ, are the beloved of God. We are Sons

and Daughters of God. His favor and grace rest upon

each of us in unique ways.

Bap sm signals our call to serve in the mission of

Christ, using the gi s and talents that God has given

us. In Romans 12, St Paul says that “We, though many,

are one body in Christ and individually members one

of another. We have gi s that differ according to the

favor bestowed on each of us.” Discovering one’s

gi s is a big part of the Spiritual Journey. At mes

we do not use the real gi s we have and life seems

boring, depressing and empty. When we are using

our gi s and talents, we are filled with energy and

joy.

The call of our bap sm con nues each day. We are

called to use our gi s in service of others, growing

into the Lord. This is our life’s task. Each person is an

important part of the Plan of God. As we begin a

new year we con nue the journey of faith together,

seeking to serve the Lord with our gi s and talents.

For “To each person the manifesta on of the Spirit is

given for the common good.” (1 Cor 12). May the Lord

help us find and use all our gi s and talents in 2018.

Blessings, Deacon Steve

Dear Parents and Friends,

We began this school year with a heart of gra tude. We are grateful and proud to celebrate

our 120th Anniversary as the oldest Catholic school in the San Bernardino Diocese!

Did you know that our students regularly reflect and write about their faith?

Here is a brief essay from one of our 7th graders, Aiden:

We need to announce the good news by reminding young and old of who Jesus Christ

is; Jesus is our salva on, he is life, and everyone’s opportunity for happiness. While

many things in our culture change, Jesus remains.

My concern about living my faith is... it’s hard to put God first. The culture wants me

to think only of me. We can resist being selfish by remembering Jesus’ sacrifice on

the cross.

I can be er live my faith by receiving the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and

Reconcilia on. The Sacraments give me the grace I need to live my faith.

We are grateful for Aiden’s reminder… Jesus remains! Our priests, faculty, and staff are

commi ed to teaching our children how to live out the Gospel values each day. Throughout

the rest of this 120th Anniversary School Year, let us keep the spirit of gra tude shining

brightly in our hearts and express it frequently in prayer and to one another.

Are you interested in providing your child with a Catholic educa on? Call us for a guided tour or visit our website for informa on.

May God bless you abundantly,

Angela Williams Principal

We wish you and yours peace and joy this Christmas Season.

Epiphany reminds us that Jesus is born so that all people might come to know the saving power of God. We celebrate Jesus as the Savior of the human race.

We honor Him by our gi s of devo on, obedience, and worship. We honor Him by giving Him not just tokens of respect,

but the gi of our very selves. The wise men did not bring Jesus anything but the best they had to offer. Neither should we. -Fr. Daniel J. Mahan
