In the spring of 2012, Ben Bernanke, then chairman of the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, delivered a series of lectures at GWSB. “Reflections of the Federal Reserve and its Place in Today’s Economy” provided a firsthand look at the inner-workings of the U.S. central banking system to GW students. This was the first and only time a sitting Fed chairman lectured on a college campus.

The GW School of Business was the education partner for the prestigious Fortune Global Forum in San Francisco, a clear indication of GWSB’s respected position as a business educator and thought leader in the business world. GWSB hosted the opening event, a “Master Class” on Leadership in the Disruptive Century. Panelists from McKinsey & Co., Fortune Magazine, Charles Schwab, and Marketo participated.

Colin Powell, MBA ’71, is just one of our many distinguished members of the Armed Services who gained leadership skills and global perspective while at GWSB. Other notable members of the military are B.J. Penn, Secretary of the Navy, Captain, United States Navy (Retired); John William Vessey, Jr., 10th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General, United States Army (Retired); Peter Pace, 16th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General, United States Marines Corps (Retired); William Owens, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral, United States Navy (Retired); and Thad Allen, 23rd Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral, United States Coast Guard (Retired).
