Fall is Here…..Let’s ‘fall’ back into learning! GVR Metropolitan District, Wanda Woods, Computer Teacher

Learning new skills, whether those skills revolve around a particular computer program or office strategy is important. In today's economic climate one should not let a fear of technology keep them from moving up in their chosen profession. That’s why the GVR Metropolitan District is offering computer classes to help increase those computer skills. We offer classes about Basic Computer Essentials to file management in Windows 8 to creating a newsletter in Word to creating an effective PowerPoint presentation to understanding formulas and functions in Excel. Most office professionals use many of these programs on a daily basis. In addition these programs can help a person with these skill sets to be more valuable to their organization. All classes are $45/ea. Each class is 4 hours long. If you sign up for more than one class, the cost is only $35/per class. Senior rates available (55+) at $35/per class. Neighbor Day 2015 A Hit For All Ages! By Alana Willis, HOA Social Event Committee Member

On Sunday, August 2, the GVR East Ranch Park was transformed into Neighbor Day headquarters! An estimated 1,000 residents of GVR and neighboring areas turned out to enjoy the FREE food, entertainment and fun. The festivities featured a variety of entertainment and activities- bungee trampolines, magicians, a guitarist, costumed characters from a wildly popular movie that rhymes with “Schmozen,” face painting, balloon animals, a stilt walking pirate, a bubble tower and even a Michael Jackson impersonator delighted crowds of all ages as they enjoyed delicious cuisine from Denver’s premier food trucks, all courtesy of the GVR Master Homeowners’ Association. Part of Denver Days, an initiative created by Denver mayor (and GVR resident!) Michael B. Hancock to foster a sense of community among neighbors in various parts of the city, Neighbor Day provided the Master HOA the opportunity to show appreciation for our beautiful community and get to know our neighbors as Green Valley Ranch continues to grow and thrive. Peggy Ponders By Peggy Ripko, HOA Supervisor

For my last Peggy Ponders, I wrote a piece about sending violations out not only to co-workers or committee/board members, but to homeowners in the community who we know

will respond in a decidedly negative manner. My hope was to ensure that all of the GVR homeowners know that violations are sent consistently. The reaction I had not anticipated was, I had many homeowners either call or come in, expressing thanks for what we do and making sure that the HOA staff knows we are valued. And I cannot tell you all how much that reaction meant

to us!

I also wanted to talk about something the Board of Directors has asked us to do more of this year. Obviously, our job is to send letters to homes who are not in compliance with the rules of the

Association. However, this year we are also making a point to reach out to homeowners who do a great job of maintaining their homes. So, when we go out on inspection not only do we note houses

that are not in compliance, but we note homes that look great! And yes, we do send letters for those as well. So far the feedback we have received has been wonderful! The Board is dedicated to

doing what they can to make the community as great as it can be, so if you have another suggestion please let us know!

The HOA social event planning committee, comprised of Justin Willis, Alana Willis, Deanna Foote and Ashley Bishop, along with numerous volunteers from both north and south GVR, worked tirelessly to plan an event that would be a great day of fun for all attendees. This is the second annual such event for GVR- the inaugural event, then known as GVR Days, was such a major success last year that the HOA event planning committee was asked to bring it back again this year. “Neighbor Day is all about community appreciation and getting to know your neighbors,” said committee chairman Justin Willis. “An event like Neighbor Day is designed to bring everyone together. Hopefully after meeting each other at Neighbor Day, people will see each other on the street or at one of the local stores and restaurants and be able to say hello, and almost get a feeling like they live in a small town with all the perks of a major city.” If you were unable to make it to Neighbor Day this year, you missed out on a great party, but fear not- it will be back, bigger and better than ever in August 2016. See you there next year!

How Can We Create a Strong Community? by Karen Councilman, HOA Assistant

A hive of bees is a perfect example of a community working together in harmony and for the common good of all its members. After all, a bee living alone, can barely survive, let alone prosper. But in a hive made up of hundreds of other bees, each taking responsibility for the various jobs necessary for the survival of the community, the lone bee not only survives, it contributes mightily to the success of the hive.

The secret of the bee's success living together in a close-knit community, is that each bee not only understands the interrelationships that exist between it and the rest of the members of its community, but is willing to accept some of the responsibility for the hive's prosperity by expanding their role in the community whenever necessary.

As homeowners, we too can choose to recognize the interrelationships that exist between ourselves and our neighbors and how those interrelationships have a direct impact on our quality of life. We can also choose to take some of the responsibility upon ourselves to contribute to improving those relationships and in the process improve our community.

In order for our community association to continue to protect, preserve and enhance our community assets and our property values, each member of our community has to acknowledge their role in our community and, at times, be willing to expand their role to take on some added responsibility. For example: We all must obey our governing documents, we agreed to do that when we closed escrow. By obeying community rules and regulations, we contribute to our community and accept the role of a rule abiding member.

Each year we conduct an Annual Meeting at which time we elect our Delegates who then elect the Board of Directors, although we don't have to participate in the election process, choosing to do so contributes to the success of our community. Our role as a rule abiding member expands to include that of a voting member.

We also have the opportunity to attend our Board of Directors meetings in order to better understand the business decisions made by the Board. When we choose to attend those meetings, our role as a rule abiding, voting member now expands to include that of a participating member. And when we choose to serve on community committees or the Board of Directors, we accept another role and become a rule abiding, voting, participating and contributing member.

So, let's all work at recognizing what roles we can choose to accept in our community and, like the bee, work together at making our community the best place to live that it can be!

Hello GVR homeowners! I want to officially introduce myself. My name is Candice Kinchelow; I am the new inspector for the HOA. I have already had the pleasure of meeting several GVR homeowners in the office and while in route around the community.

Everyone has been so welcoming and pleasant-this makes me proud to serve a community like this. Please be assured that I will try my hardest to uphold the standards in keeping your community clean and orderly. I will strive to keep your

community a place where kids can play in a clean environment and where residents can come home from a long day to a place where they are proud to call home. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments. I look forward to working with all of you!
