Mitre Saw

Mitre Saw• Always wear safety glasses• Before switching on the saw, make sure that blade in not in contact with

wood• When performing a cut

– Pull the carriage toward you to its full extent– Switch on the saw– Press handle down to the fully lowered position– Push the saw toward the fence (cut slowly)– Make sure the blade has stopped before elevating to non cutting position

• The work must be tight against the back fence (no gaps)• Long work must be supported by an assistant• Your left hand hold the board against the fence• Your right hand operates the saw, never cross your hands• Never use this saw to make rip cuts (cut made with the grain of the wood)

Jointer

Page 6: Grimsby Secondary Construction Technology Equipment Safety.

Jointer• Do not joint any piece of wood shorter than 12”

• All edge cuts lower than the fence must be held with a push stick

• All face cuts must be made using a push stick

• Do not use plywood or particleboard

• Never joint the end grain of a board

• Hold the work to be jointed using the demonstrated method, if you are unsure ask for a demonstration

• Never apply pressure to the board with your hand(s) directly over the cutting head while surfacing the face

• The jointer is one of the most dangerous machines in the shop. To protect yourself do the following;

***go slowly*** *** concentrate carefully*** ***ask for help****

Planer• Plain with the grain only, do not plain across the grain

• Stand to one side of the work being fed into the machine

• Clean wood only can be used on the machine, no plywood, screws, nails or loose knots

• Turn on the dust collector

• Dot not look into the mouth of the machine and never reach into the machine for any reason

• Wood to be planed must no be shorter than 12 inches (30mm) and thinner than 1/2”

• Do not follow the work into the table as you can pinch your fingers

• Once automatic feed rollers pulls the work release your grip

• If excessive chipping takes place, flip the board end for end, this is a grain problem

• Adjust table height before turning on machine

• Decrease the depth of cut by 1/16 inch at a time

Table Saw• The guard must be in place at all times

• Set the blade so extends about 1/2” (12.5mm) above the work to be cut

• Stock must be flat before cutting

• At least one edge must be straight before it can be sawed

• All rip cuts must use the fence

• All cross cutting must use the mitre gauge

• You may never use the mitre gauge and fence together

• Both hand must be on the mitre gauge at all times

• Never cut stock freehand

• Do not let your hands come closer than 3” to the blade

• All adjustment must be be made with the saw stopped

• Small scraps are pushed away with the push stick only , after the saw blade has stopped

• If you are assisting someone at the saw, do not push or pull the work. Support it only

• When ripping stock, the good piece is always the piece between the blade and the fence
