Greyhound Pets of America/Emerald Coast (GPAEC) is holding our Fourteenth Annual Hound Dog Howliday on May 2, 3, and 4 2014. Howliday is a celebration of greyhound adoption and is the largest fundraising effort hosted by the Emerald Coast Chapter. This year, a couple hundred people from throughout the Panhandle as well as from Southeastern, Midwestern, New England states, and Canada will arrive for our Racing Away in Margreytaville-themed event. Our mission is to place retired racing greyhounds into loving pet homes. GPAEC takes the responsibility for each greyhound’s health needs before being placed in homes. These needs include, but are not limited to, physical checkup, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, dental check, teeth cleaning, and heart worm, flea and tick treatments. The cost of these services is offset strictly through donations and fundraising events. GPAEC not only finds local homes to place our retired greyhounds, but also transports large numbers of dogs to groups in states that do not have race tracks. Last year we moved over 803 greyhounds to homes and groups throughout the United States and Canada. We at GPAEC are always looking for ways to increase the number of greyhounds we successfully place, but always find our funds limited. The major expenses involved in greyhound adoption are rented kennel space, veterinary fees, and transportation costs. Each year we strive to raise the funds necessary to increase the number of dogs taken into our program.
