We are committed to reducing our environmental impact. One way of achieving this is to encourage students, staff and visitors to use ‘green’ or sustainable transport when and where possible.as you can see from this booklet, we have put in place a series of measures to help assist everyone associated with our campuses to make green travel choices. Please use this information towards a peaceful, pleasant and sustainable stay in this beautiful location.

green travel Plan

The institutions have an active Green Travel Plan. Copies of this can be found on our website www.tremoughservices.com (also linked from both Institutional websites).

Travel Plan initiatives which are already in place include:– Subsidised local bus tickets– Working with local bus companies

to provide approx 190 buses a day from Falmouth to Tremough (one bus every 8 minutes at peak times)

– Secure cycle parking on both campuses

– Shower and changing facilities on both campuses

– Affiliation with Car-Share Cornwall– Personalised travel planning at

Freshers’ Fayre and other events during the academic year

What is sustainable travel?

Sustainable travel is any form of transport that keeps damage to our environment to a minimum, and normally has the added advantage of being a healthier alternative for the user. This includes walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing, or using vehicles that minimise carbon emissions and other pollutants, such as electric and hybrid cars, and cars which run on cleaner fuels such as LPG.

Why develop a green travel Plan?

We are passionate about ensuring Cornwall remains a special place in which to live and study. An effective Travel Plan helps to reduce pressure on the local infrastructure, contributes to keeping local pollution to a minimum and enables the widest range of people to have good access to work and services.

Our Green Travel Plan expresses our commitment to developing provision for multi-modal transportation including public transport, walking and cycling. Directed by our Environmental Policies, the development of a Green Travel Plan makes a significant contribution to promoting the desired aim of a sustainable approach to education and environmental performance.

four reasons to choose green transport

1. You will be able to use your student / staff ID card for subsidised bus travel on the designated routes operating within a five-mile radius of Tremough Campus and Woodlane Campus (Zone A). This is valid from 05:30 until 21:15 Monday to Friday all year, and on Saturdays during Undergraduate term time only from 09:30 to 18:00. Please see map for further details

2. Other subsidised bus services in Zone B and Zone C covering most of West Cornwall are available in term time

3. Falmouth and Penryn are comparatively compact, small towns. Served by the Zone A bus service described above, the campus locations are well placed in relation to all other facilities. This makes many requirements for keeping a car in these towns unnecessary

4. Falmouth and Penryn have narrow streets with restricted parking and few public car parks in relation to the number of spaces potentially demanded

bus travel

First Bus operates a number of frequent service bus routes linking the major towns in Cornwall. University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter have negotiated subsidised bus transport with First Bus using a zoning system. Please consult the zone map to discover which zone you are living in, and then link this information to the bus timetables available on campus. Full current timetables for all routes are available from both campus receptions at the beginning of term. Timetables can also be downloaded. Visit www.firstgroup.com and click on Cornwall.

Zone A covers the villages of Rame, Mabe, Longdowns, Ponsanooth, Stithians, Budock Water, Perranarworthal, Perranwell, Mylor and Flushing in addition to the towns of Falmouth and Penryn. Within this area subsidised travel is available at 60p per journey 05:30 to 21:15, Monday to Friday all year, and on Saturdays during Undergraduate term time only from 09:30 to 18:00. Regular fares apply outside these hours.

The rest of Cornwall has been divided into Zones B and C. A Zone B pass costs £130 per term, and covers the following towns: Truro, Camborne, Redruth and Helston. Further travel within Cornwall is covered by Zone C; a Zone C pass costs £150 per term. Prices may be subject to alterations during the academic year.

To qualify for subsidised travel within Zone A (60p per journey), show your ID card to the driver, state your destination and ask for a 60p ticket.

To apply for Zone B and Zone C passes, please contact the Pass Administrator, First Devon and Cornwall Ltd., Union Street, Camborne, Cornwall TR14 8HF or ring 01209 722614. The subsidised service for Zone A is supported by both the University of Exeter and University College Falmouth (full fare is approximately £1.60). In addition, a pre-paid booklet scheme has been introduced for travellers within Zone A. Each booklet contains twenty tickets and costs £8 (a further saving of 10p per trip within Zone A). The booklets are available from both Woodlane and Tremough shops.

If you have comments or complaints regarding bus travel, please put them in an email to [email protected]

if you lose your student id card

For University College Falmouth students the fee to have your ID card re-issued is £8. You should go to the Finance Office at either campus to pay the fee and obtain a receipt. The Finance Offices are open between 09:00 and 14:00 Monday to Friday. The Admissions Office will re-issue your card on production of your receipt. The Admissions Office is open between 09:00 and 14:00 Monday to Friday on the Woodlane Campus.

For University of Exeter students, if your UniCard is lost or stolen please notify the Cornwall Card Office immediately. A non-refundable fee, currently £6.00, is charged to replace damaged or lost UniCards. You can apply in person for a replacement card which can be issued immediately at the Cornwall Card Office, Peter Lanyon Building, Tremough Campus. Replacement fees are waived where UniCards have been stolen, but only in cases where you have reported the theft to the Police and provide a valid police report/crime number when you collect/request your replacement UniCard.

Pedestrians and cyclists

Stay fit and healthy and avoid the traffic jams. The proximity of our campuses makes getting around under your own steam an easy option.

You can use your bicycle between campuses and to access many other local facilities such as the beaches, which are minutes away from our Woodlane Campus. We provide showers free of charge for cyclists, at Fox 3 and Rosehill Garden Studios at Woodlane Campus, and the Sports Centre at Tremough Campus. There are also secure cycle storage facilities located on both Tremough and Woodlane campuses.

Pedestrian and cycling access to Tremough Campus is by means of Treliever Road and Greenwood Road leading to the Old Drive, and to the Woodlane Campus by means of Woodlane or Fox’s Lane.

Cyclists can keep in touch via our Bicycle Users Group (BUG) accessible via the UCF website Green Travel Information page. Email [email protected] for the latest information and news.

Both our Woodlane and Tremough Campuses are within walking distance of the Falmouth branch line train stations, linking to the mainline station at Truro. Why not opt for a multi-modal option – bicycles can be transported by train – although at peak times space may be limited and carriage of bicycles is then at the operator’s discretion.
