Our 2019 Camp Book is the best resource for parents to help select the ideal summer adventure for their girl.

WHY GIRL SCOUT CAMP IS RIGHT FOR HER

At Girl Scout camp, we’re deploying new ways to test girls’ determination and develop their imagination while building inner strength. The camp community encourages teamwork while growing independence - girls become more responsible for themselves and for others. Our camps are where girls get to try new things and overcome fears while gaining confidence. It’s where girls will make new friends in an environment just for girls.

This book lists all summer programs for girls currently in grades 6-12. To view the Camp Book for girls in grades K-5 visit gsbadgerland.org and click the ‘Camp’ tab.

CHOOSE THE BEST CAMP FOR HER

Below are the different ‘styles’ of overnight camps your girl can attend. This year, we’re offering a new tool for parents to help determine if a camp is appropriate for their girl: each camp is marked on a Level range from 1-5. Details on the levels and what they mean on the next page.

Page 7: Grades 6-12 · Types of Camp Experiences Resident Camps (pages 12-20) • Choose from three-night, five-night or 12-night programs. • All the resident camp programs are operated

Resident camps Ehawee, Black Hawk, Alice Chester and Birch Trails are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Accreditation is earned only after successfully meeting ACA’s high standards during an extensive review. These strict requirements are recognized nationally. Additionally, all camps including Brandenburg, Evelyn, Manitou, Juniper Knoll, White Pines Ranch and Stronghold Center meet safety standards set forth by Girl Scouts of the USA and county and state regulations.

HERE’S A NEW TOOL FOR PARENTS:Introducing “Levels”

At Girl Scouts, all programming is ‘progressive’. That means the activities and experiences build on each other - as she gains new knowledge or a new skill she then is ready to take the next step and ‘progress’ to a higher level of activity or experience. In the Girl Scout Camp World, the lingo for this is Outdoor Experience Progression. In a nutshell, it means that your girl may be ready for a Level 1 experience or Level 3 or even a Level 5. You are the expert on your girl and her level of adventurousness; use the Level Guide as a tool to help determine which camp is right for her. Review the chart below to help you gauge which level camps your girl is ready to tackle. All the programs in this Camp Book are assigned a level. If you have questions about Camp Program Levels, please connect with us anytime: [email protected].

OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE PROGRESSION LEVELS

*A Community-Hosted Girl Scout event refers to a local gathering of Girl Scout troops. For example: Troops in Stoughton get together annually for a Girl Scout community-wide event focused on campfire and outdoor skills at a local park.

Health and Safety Safety is our first priority. All Girl Scout camps meet stringent county, state and national standards. The local law enforcement agencies are notified of our camp sessions. Each staff member is certified in CPR and first aid and many are lifeguards. A health supervisor is on-site at all times, and a doctor is on-call.

Camp StaffAll staff members go through an intense screening, selection and training process. The camp staff learn how to keep girls safe while still having fun. All staff pass a thorough screening process including criminal background checks. Each staff member is certified in CPR and first aid and many are lifeguards.

Camp counselors participate in extensive staff training – covering topics like camper behavior and support, creating safe space, outdoor activities, roles of the counselor, group dynamics, emergency procedures and so much more.

Cost of Camp Again this summer, most of Badgerland’s overnight camps are only $65 per night. Similar pricing is available from the other Girl Scout council(s).

A word about camp pricing: The cost of each camp program is subsidized by Badgerland Council and every other Girl Scout council. We firmly believe these overnight programs and experiences are important to the Girl Scout experience which is why we underwrite camp. Put simply, the cost of operating the camp program is much greater than the cost. If you want to add a camp donation to help offset the full cost, you will have the option to do so when you register her for camp. And, because we want girls to experience camp, Campership scholarships are available to families in need, regardless of which camp she attends. See details on page 36.

She Can Earn Her Way to Camp With CookiesGirls are strongly encouraged to earn all or part of their way to camp through cookie and ‘in a nutshell’ sales. Paying for all or a portion of her camp program instills independence, pride and self-confidence. See more details about how she can earn Badgerland Bucks to pay for camp by selling cookies on page 36. And, yes, Badgerland Bucks can be redeemed to pay for her camps at our partner camps!

Special NeedsIf your camper has special needs including food allergies, health concerns or mobility limitations please notify us in advance. Badgerland Council will seek to accommodate special needs whenever possible but reserves the right to identify reasonable and prudent accommodations.

Who Attends CampGirl Scout camp is for girls in grades K-12. Girls who are not already members of Girl Scouts simply pay the Girl Scout membership dues upon camp registration.

What She’ll EatMeals at camp are girl-friendly and healthy. Most meals are prepared by our cooks and eaten in the dining hall. Camps Evelyn and Manitou campers also cook at least one meal themselves outdoors. Most diets (gluten free, diabetic, vegetarian, vegan, allergies, etc.) can be accommodated by contacting the camp directors two weeks prior to the stay at camp.

Earn Badgerland Camp Property Patches!

LAUNCHING SPRING 2019

BADGERLAND PROPERTY PATCH PROGRAMEarn a patch at every Badgerland property. Incorporate this programming into outings that your troop plans. Requirements to earn each patch will be released in May.

How it works:

• There will be a patch for each property, but they will all fit together to make one overall design. Collect them all!

• Get involved in environmental stewardship through service projects at each property.

• Learn about the history of the property. This may include geographic, cultural or Girl Scout history.

• Accomplish new outdoor skills at each location.

• Get to know the land around each property through environmental science activities.
