Gowerton Primary School Weekly Planner Week commencing: 18.05.20 Class: Y4 Deers and Y4 Hedgehogs Languages, Literacy and Communication As part of our ‘Wales and The Wonderful World Around Us’ topic, we would like you to choose a new country to learn more about for this week’s task - Recipes from around the world. Can you write a set of instructions for a recipe for a popular dish from your new chosen country? TOP TIPS - include the country you have chosen, the name of the dish, a list of ingredients needed, a set of instructions to follow and maybe a chefs top tip/ safety top tip. Things to remember: Write the instructions in chronological (time) order. Use bullet points/numbered steps. Use imperatie verbs to give instructions (bosy verbs, eg stir, mix, fry) You could include a picture or a photo of the dish. You could even have a go at making your chosen dish with your family, we would love to see photos of this! We have included a few examples of recipes on the main home learning page for this week to have a look at. Here are some activities you can try over the week:

We have attached a Y4/5 list of common words. Choose up to 15 words each week to learn and practise spelling. Use some of the multi-sensory ideas from the ‘Spelling Menu’ to practise your words each week. Ask your parents or older siblings to test you every Monday! Let your class teacher know how you got on!

Enjoy reading for pleasure and for sustained periods of time – Read your favourite chapter books! Find some interesting facts from a non-fiction book that interests you! Read to a grown-up – Are you using plenty of expression and changing the tone in your voice?

Remember to sign up to ‘https://readtheory.org/app/sign-up/role’ as a student and have a go at answering the questions about the text!

We know lots of you love Harry Potter! Have a look at https://www.wizardingworld.com/collections/harry-potter-at-home where there are lots of different quizzes, word searches ideas and activities you can try at home. You will need your parents/guardians to help you set up a Wizarding World account. You can also listen to different celebrities reading Harry Potter aloud.

If you think back to when we were in school, we had started to learn about electricity. To link in with this, this week we would like you to find out

more about electrical circuits.

Can you find out about the different symbols used to represent electrical circuits? What is a conductor of electricity? Can you give examples? What is an insulator? Can you give examples of insulators? Have a look at the websites below to help – there are some games and quizzes you can

Health & Well-beingHave fun this week doing something together with your family!

Give the following ideas a go…

- Why not try some cloud gazing! If you have a garden, find a nice spot you could sit or even lie down to look at the sky, if not, you just need to make sure you can see the sky, you could look out of the window. Can you see any shapes or patterns in the clouds? Can you spot any animal shape clouds? You could have a go at drawing them, or even take photos and animate them!

- Have a go at the 8 PE Challenges on https://tlg-pe.co.uk/killsathome/ Each challenge includes a video, instructions and equipment ideas. On the instructions you will see the GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE medals for the challenge. Let us know which medal you achieve! Good luck!
