2010 Golden Dragons Ohana, We hope this newsletter finds you well as we enter into a new month of this deployment. September flew by and before we knew it, October was here and in the blink of an eye, it's almost November. November and December will be a busy few months as we have a jammed packed calendar of events. 1-14 Infantry would like to congratulate all the nominees up for DIV Volunteer of the Quarter Award! Included in the Final Nominees that will represent 1-14 IN BN Awards Ceremony are our very own Emma McGraw, Justin Babb, and Tricia Carrasco. Did you know that we are almost to the halfway mark of deployment? There is still plenty of time to set some personal goals for yourself to complete before your loved ones come home on R&R ! Whether it be learning a new hobby, finishing a project around the house, or getting into better shape, setting goals for ourselves will help make the rest of this deployment fly by and give us something to be proud of that we can share with our Soldiers when they return. It is important to make sure we are continuing to take care of ourselves and each other as we continue with this deployment. The FRG’s has lots of exciting events planned in the upcoming months, so be sure to take advantage of the opportunity to get together with other families in the Battalion and with your companies to enjoy the free food, games, and support these activities/ meetings offer. On 29 Nov at 9am we will be participating in a service project; The Fisher House “adopt a room” for the holidays. Alpha Company would like to thank all of those who came out to help put together Halloween goodie bags for our soldiers downrange. They really enjoyed them and appreciated all of our hard work!

Reminder: We will be having an FRG Meeting on November 27th. We will be assembling holiday packages for our brave soldiers so that we can send them out in time for Christmas. We would love for as many volunteers as possible to help give our soldiers the thoughtful gifts they deserve for the holidays. We welcome any ideas you may have. Please email [email protected] with any suggestions, comments or questions.

What has been keeping you busy during this deployment??? We would like to put together a few pages in the next newsletter highlighting the various activities our Alpha Company families have been taking part in while their loved ones are away. Please send photos and stories to [email protected]

Alpha Company will be participating in the gift wrapping fundraiser in December which will be a great opportunity to raise money for upcoming events and activities for the company. We will be looking for volunteers to come out and help wrap presents at the PX. ALEXA SMITH & EMMA MCGRAW

Message from the Company Commander:

Hello Reaper families and friends!  Thank you for all the support you have given us over here in Iraq; whether it was through care packages, letters, emails, or just a simple thought or prayer, we appreciate all of it.  While the mission over here can be a little frustrating from day to day, the guys are making the best of it.  We've been here for about four months already, so guys are starting to get really good at their daily jobs and comfortable with the area we are working in.  They are staying sharp on their battle drills and working hard to improve individually and collectively every day.  Thanks again for everything you all do and take care.CPT Tony Smith

Diablo Ohana,

It's already almost the end of October and fall is in the air well except to those of us on the island where every day is warm and mostly sunny! Halloween is right upon us so I hope everyone has their costumes picked out! Can you believe our Soldiers have been gone for three months now? And what a busy three months it has been. Delta Company has come a long way! Everyone should be proud of what we have accomplished! We have set up a new company and an FRG and we've met lots of new people and built relationships that will last a lifetime. We held our first company FRG meeting in August where we were introduced as your FRG leaders. In September, we put on our bowling shoes and had a great time at the bowling alley! We explored a new part of Oahu while hiking the Kaena Point trail on the monthly battalion hike. Also this past month, Delta Company joined the other companies in the battalion and put together Halloween goodie bags for our Soldiers with lots of great candy I'm sure they will enjoy! As of right now, because we are so new, Delta Company doesn't have any funds and we really want to be able to send our Soldiers a Christmas care package This is going to require a lot of participation but I know we can do it!. We hope to see you all at our next FRG meeting! We will send out a confirmation with more details soon. We'd also like to make a couple of Announcements: We'd first like to IntroduceRebecca Grace Hart, Born on August 10, 2010 at 1:25pm, 6lbs, 5oz and 18.5 inches. She is welcomed by parents Ben and Chrissy Hart and big sister Ashelyn. Secondly, we'd like to thank our New POC for 2nd Platoon and HQ, Angela Stephens, for volunteering for this position. Please email us any photos or stories of what you have been doing during the deployment so we can include them in the next newsletter. For now, everyone stay strong and continue to support our Delta Company Ohana! This deployment will be over before you know it!
