KORK

HISTORY It was a Caritas childcare transfer to Portugal in 1948 that was to decide the future and career of my father, Gerhard Schießer. Not only was he allowed to partake in the long-awaited holiday release from war-torn Austria, but he was also to make close contact with the cork producing industrialist AMORIM family. After four years of fruitful work and training (1963-1967) at the cork manufacturing plants of the AMORIMS, he was offered the unique opportunity to establish the Gerhard Schiesser Ges.m.b.H. as a cork wholesale trader in Austria in 1967 along with his Portuguese partner. 25 years the Gerhard Schiesser Ges.m.b.H. was the main supplier to a number of well-known cork wholesalers across Austria as well as in Eastern Europe thus opening up for the Portuguese partners, whose products had been boycotted by the East, a golden gateway to new key markets and countries. Having established itself as the world’s undisputed leader in the cork business, AMORIM adapted its sales strategy in the early 90´s and began to pursue an approach that encouraged direct “manufacturer-to-consumer” sales.

In 1992, a total investment of about €500,000 was made by the Korken Schiesser Ges.m.b.H. to build a modern cork processing plant in Vienna. The AMORIM slogan “quality has a name” was the reason that a laboratory equipped with the latest in technology was established within the Vienna facility. In 1996, the two companies, Gerhard Schiesser Ges.m.b.H. (which had been set up to act as a holding company up to that time) and Korken Schiesser Ges.m.b.H., agreed to merge retaining,

however, its colourful name as it had by then already become commonly known and a household name in the wine business. In 2004, my father chose to take his well-deserved retirement and made me his successor as managing director of the company in the same year. HACCP-certification in 2004 is to prove our genuine commitment to quality and customer service. To achieve this goal, we offer our customers products that are reliable and of the highest possible quality – not least because they have been processed in accordance with the most advanced standards and technologies. With the acquisition of the company Llosent & Forschner in 2008 and the subsequent merger with Korken Schiesser Ges.m.b.H. we were able to take over the strong brand Llosent on board and claim the leadership of the Austrian cork industry. The years 2009 and 2010 were, due to the global economic crisis, years of cost optimizations, from which we came back motivated and strengthen in 2011. In 2017 we will be happy to celebrate our 50th anniversary with our clients and friends. My ambition is to continue to maintain the company dynamically and result-orientated and to offer our customers the best possible quality closures at reasonable prices. The foundation stone was laid by my father, which I am very grateful to him.

The world´s best wine stoppers just got better Amorim is proud to unveil NDtech – an individualized quality control screening technology for natural cork stoppers that delivers the world´s first natural cork with a non-detectable TCA guarantee*. Winemakers can now use the supreme guardian for wine - natural cork - with an unprecedented quality control service that effectively eliminates the risk of cork taint, by ensuring that if any TCA remains present in the cork it is below the detection threshold of 0.5 nanograms/liter. BIONATURAL® The natural cork stopper

The BIONATURAL® stoppers are washed for the first time without chemical additives and treatments. Therefore a first-class natural closure for winemakers with ecological requirements.

The cork wood for Bionatural ® stoppers is first being cleaned with pure water vapour, then disinfected and finally immediately dried. The punched stoppers are coming afterwards to a peroxide-free final wash. As the stoppers are not bleached the original natural appearance is maintained. The final surface treatment in Vienna will be implicated on the basis of beeswax with no additives of chemical agents.

SPARK® The champagne-stopper

The Spark® stopper has acquired a privileged status in the art of sealing the best champagnes and sparkling wines. It achieves the highest levels of physical, chemical and oenological performance, resulting from an intensive scientific and technological research.

SPARK TOP ONE® Champagne stopper with one disc

This SPARK TOP ONE® cork with one disc for sparkling wines is produced by using the ROSA® system. So far this system is successfully used for the production of NEUTROCORK®, we wish to stress particularly are: high performance and excellent pressure resistance.

As a user friendless and robustness homogeneous closure SPARK TOP ONE® is especially well suited for sparkling wines for early consumption.

T-Bar cork stoppers The fact that the demand for T-Bar stoppers is still increasing has decided us to expand our stock with a couple of widely popular T-Bar stoppers. The cork used for the stoppers is being produced from corkwood of the highest quality. A food-safe adhesive agent firmly and permanently joins the cork to the wooden top.

Bottle-necks often vary in size. This is the reason we offer T-Bar Cork stoppers in a number of different diameters: 11, 14, 17, 18, 19 and 20 mm.

In addition, we stock T-Bar Cork stoppers made of solid natural cork without wooden top. These stoppers are produced out of just one piece of cork and are stocked in these diameters: 18, 19 and 20mm. Great offer for many reasons:

BARRIQUES Cooperage VICARD

Out from our portfolio we can offer you also wine-barrels from the VICARD-GROUPE in Cognac, France. The cooperage was found in 1925 in the city of Cognac in France. The sons from Jean Vicard, Jean-Charles and Jean-Louis Vicard manage VICARD in the second generation.

Due to new investments and innovations VICARD continuously grow and produces today around 60.000 barrels per year. 70% of these barrels are for the Export to Italy, Spain, USA and southern hemisphere.

On a surface-area of 12 ha - 6 ha are only for the wood-stocking - VICARD has established one of the most modern cooperages worldwide.

Barriques are available in following sizes:

Volume: 225, 228, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 600 und 700 ltr

The name Vicard guarantees:

a 36 months stocking of all wooden staves before starting the further processing (important for

stabilizing of the wood-staves and bad tannin's will disappear)

a computerized technology for the toasting-process (guarantees a homogenous, replicable

toasting)

a special micro-perforation treatment (Vicard patent) of all wooden staves, so that no blisters can

occur under the wood

a free of charge branding by laser is included in the prices (also for each barrels)

trendcap® The screw cap The re-closable trendcap® 60/30 high quality screw cap is visually elegant, precise, reliable and resistant. The Saran-Tin inlay provides an even better oxygen barrier and can be used for an average wine storage of up to five years. The trendcap® screw cap is „Tamper-evident“, that means that manipulations will be noticed immediately by the break of the retaining ring. Therefore, this closure grants an intactness of the packaging!

The trendcap® screw cap is available in the conventional size:

60 x 30 mm and in many different standard colors. Custom-designed prints are available starting with orders of 96.000 pieces in standard colors. Attention! The requirements on an optimal closure can only be fulfilled well at a perfect interacting of the factors closure, bottle-neck and bottling system like tightness, opening values, etc.
