Throughout my years traveling, I have experienced the ups and downs. Being

stranded at a dark train station in Munich, Germany at 4 A.M., waiting hours for that train to arrive to take us to our next stop in Belgium. Getting a flat tire within an hour of traveling in our rental car to missing check-in and camping in the car for the night. From seeing the beautiful glaciers lined along the coast of Iceland, to laying on the rocky shores of Madrid, Spain in the warmth of July. I have come to the conclusion that not only have my travels been a learning experience for my-self and my family I travel beside, but possibly experiences I could share with others. There is a joke in my family that we are known as “money savers” while traveling. Sometimes we even have titled ourselves the “budget crew”. We take a extradionary vacation and turn it into a wild adventure, without even trying. A

$100 per-night stay in that resort, or $15 per-night in the hostel down the street? A four-course meal at the resturant across the street or a cold turkey sandwich from the well packed cooler in the trunk of the car? It’s the small decisions of cutting corners when you can that make the trips I make attainable. Theres very few that can make trips around the world and live the high life while doing so. Overtime, I’ve thought it be a good idea to share these ways with others. Sometimes to make what you want possible , you have to decide what you can do without. My stories are to help you get there. Seeing the world is not that impossible,.I hope I can give you ideas and tips that will make your dream travels happen.

When most people think ski resort, they think money. They also think wealthy people, looking for a quiet re-

laxing weekend in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Except for the people of Breckenridge and its visiors. Its no secret, Breckenridge is far from the stereotype. Shopping: Home to over 200 quaint shops lining Main Street, Breckenridge has a shop for every shopper. Swan

Christmas store is Breck’s own christmas shop, open all year round, and will decorate any ornament to your familes desire. Art on a Whim sells art from artists all over Colorado, and Colorado only, from paintings to statues, Art on a Whim has anything from abstract structures to art both humorous and serious. There are over 20 clothing stores on Main Steet, from all your cold weather needs to souvenier t-shirts made exactly for you.

Lodging: Is more affordable then you would think . Most condiminiums and resort lodging facilities will work

to beat any competitors price. All year round, speicals are run that offer buy one night get one night free lodging, and most places will offer you a certain percent off your lodg-ing if you purchase ski rentals or excursions through their company. It’s important to learn the “peak season”. The peak season is when the snow will be at its best, and the slopes are in the best condition for skiing and snowboarding. During peak season is usually the beginning of Novemeber and lasts through the last week of April.

Excursions and Activities: Breckenridge offers more than just a day of skiing. From day spas to family fun parks,

there’s plenty to do. Summit County offers one of the oldest min-ing tours in the Rocky’s and rafting is offered year round (wet-suits supplied during the winter months). Sore and tired from the slopes? Try spending the afternoon at A Mountain Sanctury Day Spa and enjoy massages to pedicures and manicures all afternoon. Ready to get back into the adventure? Take your friends, part-ner or family dogsledding. Key West over the years has been known for its pride in pro-tecting its land, tons of national wildlife refuges cover the island, and visitors seem to respect the land as much as its people. There is plenty to do in Key West and one of the must’s is a evening spent in Mallory Square. Some of the nightly performers have been there for over thirty years, and so have their dog. They may not be a doctor or lawyer, but their the happiest living with the locals and entertain-ing the tourists that come to watch their special talents year after year. A funny thing you’ll notice about Key West is the enormous amount of roosters that run wild. Almost anywhere you can find a rooster running around the corner or a stray cat on every side walk. Ernest Hemming way, very fond of cats, resided in Key West for many years until his death. His house was dedicated to become a museum, and you’ll find hundreds of stray cats still running around, mysteriously enough. Some say that at certain sunsets you can catch a glimpse of the “green light”. The green light is a rumor, or so they say, that when the sun touches the ho-rizon when setting over the Gulf of Mexico, you’ll catch a flash of a green light. Still, noone has ever been able to pho-tograph the moment. Key West is home to its own cruise ship port where you’ll find many tourists getting off dur-ing the day to tour the streets with you, this means happy hour all hours of the day. Because of the traffic that flows through the all famous Duval Street, most bars and res-turants offer consistent specials and offers throughout the day to compete with near by neighbors. So next time you want to take a trip to get away from the stresses of life, head south and enjoy the laid back town of Key West, FL.

In 1860, many Cubans re-located to the island of Key West, and along with them came their love for cockfighting. Soon cockfight-ing became just as popular in the states as it did Cuba, and the roosters still roam freely in the streets of this paradise .

Welcome to the tallest mountain in Germany. Lo-cated on the southern border of Germany and

Austria, Zugspitze rises 2,961 feet above sea level and has views that will blow your mind. On the flanks of Zug-sptize lie three glaciers, one of them the biggest glacier Germany owns. Theres more to Zugsptize then its beauty, if thats believable . Below Zugsptize sits the resort town of Garmisch, a town that has been around since the year A.D. 15. From roads and streets named by men who con-quered the land, and pubs and restuarants that have been around for over a hundred years, there is a mysterious yet rich history to this resort town. Nestled around the outside of its main parts of town, remain quaint neigh-borhoods of families whose families have lived in the area dating back years and years. You will often find local traf-fic stopped for dairy cow crossings being herded to and from nearby meadows. There are over 23 lodging choices and over 12 restuarants to choose from and Garmisch is

Lodging: From a modern ski-resort to a historic lodge or cabin, Garmisch offers a mix of everything. When you

enter the town the first lodging choice you’ll come across is a historic Bavarian bed and breakfast called Guesthouse Gerald.The bed and breakfast rates range from $40 USD to $80 USD per night. They offer free wi-fi and and free parking. Breakfast is included and consists of fresh local produce. Another lodg-ing option you want to check out is Hotel Bavaria. This hotel has more of a cabin vibe to it. It’s a three-story cabin, holding six-seperate rooms for rent. They serve fresh complimentary breakfast every morning, included in the price of your stay. The hotel is located on the very edge of the famous Zugspitze. Close to the bus and train station as well as a short walk to the bus to bring you up to the slopes. Hotel Bavaria rates run from $80 USD to $100 USD. Lastly, a lodging facility you should take a look at is the all to famous Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. The resort sits at the very bottom edge of Zugspitze, and offers a wide range of dining, recreation, entertainment and top -notch beverages and hospitality.

You can book a single night ranging from $100- $220 USD, or you can book an entire week for around $1200 USD. Among all the amentities there is a large swimming pool, fitness center, downstairs arcade, bike rentals, spa and jacuzzi, horse carriage tours and much more.

EDITOR’S TIP!The best time of year to explore and tour Garmisch and its mountain of Zugspitze are the months between May and August. In the summer you can enjoy all the mountain has to offer whether its white water rafting, zip-lining, kyaking or skiing at the top. You get a mix of everything. Summer has the best prices for skiing as it is not considered “peak season” but yet you’ll still find ski-able conditions.

not a ski resort known to be like others. It welcomes locals as well as foreign tourists at affordable prices. What to do: There are many options when it comes to activities in Garmisch, and you will find that almost none of them involve being indoors. Surrounded by lakes, rivers, glaciers, ice caves, and tall mountain peaks, there is plenty to choose from for fun in Garmisch. Peak seasons to travel to Garmisch for skiing, sledding, snow mobiling and anyone looking to see snow, would be between the months of November and February. These are peak season times for the local ski resorts, and when you will see the most visior traffic. In the spring and summer months in Garmisch you can find activities ranging from mountain biking, picnicing, camping, fishing, kayaking, zip-lining and much more. Points of interest: Include making it to the top of Garmisch’s highest peak, Zugspitze. From the top you can see almost all of Germany, the Dolomite Mountains of Italy the Switz Alps and and into Austria. Transportation up ranges from mountain biking to trollies. Once on top you can enjoy the views from several different “look out points” and shaded areas containing benches. On top you can find Germany’s highest sun deck, where you will find sunbathers almost all year round catching rays, at no cost!

Dining on top you will find traditional hearty Bavarian dishes or German cuisine with an international flair: The SonnAlpin Glacier Restaurant, the Glaciergarden restau-rant and Panorama-Lounge 2962 bid you inside.

Touring Prague Czech Republic

Prague, Czech Republic is one of the most fascinating places you can venture to in your life . If you are in to

fine dining, unique art, and historic archictecture, Prague is the vacation destination for you ( or possibly living des-tination). Prague is one of the largest cities in Central Eu-rope and is Czech Republic’s capital. Prague was founded in the later 9th century, and soon became the seat of Bo-hemian kings, some of whom ruled as emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. It is so rich in history, that almost all buildings are still standing from before WW11 . To get around to see all Prague has to offer you can walk, take the tram and metro, go by shuttle, or be shoffered by a taxi. Your best bet to save money would be walking. Their are many guided walking tours as wells as maps scattered around the city that will guide you where you want to go. Your next best bet would be to take the tram and metro. Children receive 50 percent off ticket prices and many of the stations offer group discount rates. Dining in Prague is a must. You can find varied options from Bohemian cafe’s to up-scale dining. Prague is known for its unique atmosphere, quality food and attentive service at a fair price. Their are several companies offering walking tours throughout the city but if your looking to save money you can guide yourself through the city with free maps offered around the city at churches and local shops. The tour will take you about four hours, so make sure to pack what you’ll need for the day. There are over six castles you can choose to visit but a must-see is the Prague Castle . It is an ancient symbol of the Czech lands and was built in 880 and is the largest complex castle in the world. It is home to over seven magnificent buildings housed on over 18 acres of land. To see all the castle has to offer make sure you have a good two hours set aside. Another must-see, also known as the most popular stop in Prague is the Charles Bridge. Charles Bridge is a stone Gothic bridge that connects the Old Town and Malá Strana. It was ac-tually called the Stone Bridge when it was first built in 1357. Charles Bridge is known for its romantic setting and vibe and has been home to many weddings over the years ranging from local newly-weds to visitors. You can find artists, jazz players, but if your looking for a roman-tic stroll, try going in the early morning or late evening.

Built in 850 AD Prague Castle is one of the most famous castles in Europe, having housed over eight cen-turies of Pragues leaders and founders (Shown to the left, top). The castle has been renovated a number of times, but the oldest part of the castle wasn’t torn down and re-built until 1920, where archaeologist found such important findings that sections of the castle are still blocked off for research. In the 11th century Prague Castle was one of the largest forts in Central Europe, with a well designed defense system, churches, Bishop’s palace and two mo-nostaries. Today the castle is just as large as it was when it was first built in 850 AD. You can take a guided four-hour walking tour through its walls or you can explore at your own-free will during the day. Another must-see stop, is a stop into one of many Prague museums, The Museum of Communism. This museum is rich in Czech’s history during Soviet Union times. Artefacts, statues, military objects and even a reconstruction of a school classroom during these times. Prague is a city rich in its history and visitors find its mysterious, gloomy-day atmospheres in-triguing. One stop you should make sure to make be-fore you make your way out of Prague’s fine city, is a stop into Old Square Town. This market square dates back to the 12th century and was the original marketplace for prague’s first citizens. There is so much to do in Prague that you want to make sure you set out more than one day to see it all. The great thing about this city, is you can see almost everything without paying a dime. Enjoy french cuisine at many restuarants and cafe’s throughout Prague, but dont forget to save your spending money to get to the next city. You want to see all Europe has to offer, so save that $10 you would have spent on a meal, for a hop on the bus or train into Poland.
