TABLE OF CONTENTS LET TER FROM JANE

The older we get, the more it seems the days and years fly by. Can you believe that this year Generations will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary? The past decade has brought so many memories, connections and joy. I am very excited to see what the next decade brings. The opportunities to bring about positive change by fostering understanding and acceptance between all generations abounds! I think I speak for everyone here at Generations that we look forward to when we can welcome everyone back through our doors, hopefully by fall at the latest. We cannot wait to have the kids downstairs again and begin our “in person” intergenerational programs. To hear the laughter and all the conversations, will bring much joy into our hearts again. We lost some very dear friends this past year whose memories will be imprinted on our hearts for years. Hopefully, we gained some patience, understanding, resilience and appreciation for all we do have, especially our family and friends. We want to thank all of you who donated to help Generations through this challenging time, to those of you who thanked us for the long and sometimes stressful hours of keeping everything clean and safe and even just a smile goes a long, long ways. We know it has not been easy on you either. The limited activities and classes, masks, quarantine requirements and just the fear and unknown of this pandemic. I think we all want things to be back to “normal” whatever that may look like in 2021. Stay safe and be well!

We are proud of what we do at Generations and want more people to know about it. As a result, we have a very active Facebook page and like to share pictures of our members. If you do not want to be in the newsletter, website, or on Facebook page, please inform the photographer.

We would like to take this time to let

everyone know what Generations’ Fall Policy:

If anyone that is in our building, or in the parking lot, falls and CANNOT get up on their own, we will be calling 911. It is our duty to ensure your safety, and there are too many risks involved in helping someone stand up after a fall. Once the ambulance arrives, it is your decision whether to go with them or stay at Generations. If your injury is severe and you do go with the ambulance, we will notify your emergency contact.

Please understand that our first priority is your

safety, and this is why we need to call the

professional to help you in case of a fall or

injury. This policy does apply to everyone,

including staff. If you have any questions,

please talk to our Executive Director, Jane

Brill.

Be sure to keep listening to Love 98.5 while you are home or in your car! On the first Tuesday of the month, between 7:30 am and 9:00 am, Jane will be interviewed about all the latest happenings at Generations and updates on activities as we reopen. Tune in to hear the latest news!

Do you need a mask? Please let us know! The Sheboygan County Mask Makers, DeDe Schelk, and Mary Jo Hermann have provided Generations with some masks, and we are

happy to provide one to you.

Just email [email protected] or call Generations 920-8924858.

CARRIE HARPER DONATION

Generations is the fortunate recipient of this lovely donation in Carrie Harper’s memory. These are just a few of the books that were donated in her memory to us. Carrie Harper was an elementary/middle school guidance counselor for 33 years. She was an avid reader, writer and collector of books. She often shared her love of books and stories when she read aloud in guidance sessions. Carrie collected several books wonderfully illustrated by Michael Hague in his unmistakable artistic style. Her wish was to share them where they would be loved by children and adults for their beautiful images and tales.

Twenty-five books of her Michael Hague collection have been lovingly donated to the Generations’ library. Many of the books are stories passed down through many generations such as fairy tales, also classics like Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland, all with that moves the stories along.

Carrie battled metastatic breast cancer for nearly three years and passed in December of 2019.

We are so grateful for this lovely donation which can be enjoyed by all of us here at Generations!

TECH TALK

TIPS from T YLER

Tips for Outdoor Recreation

• Dress in layers & protect the

extremities

• A base layer made of a

synthetic material is

best. It will wick the

moisture from the skin

keeping you dry.

• A thicker second layer,

such as fleece, will keep

you warm in the colder weather

situation.

• Finish your layers with a waterproof

jacket.

• Practice slip prevention

• Be sure the tracks on your shoes/boots

are not worn down, leaving you with

little to no traction.

• Take it slow. Moving too fast can lead to

slips and falls, resulting in injury.

• Avoid outdoor recreation when it’s too cold

• The colder air narrows the airways,

making it more difficult to breath.

• Avoid activities that involve long periods

of sustained exertion, such as running or

sports.

• Cinnamon can reduce inflammation, pain, and

infection and it can improve heart and brain

health

• Cumin is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory

agent that helps in managing heart rate, blood

pressure, and increase red blood count.

• Cardamom aids with digestion and increases

metabolism and circulation.

| GENERATIONS REOPENING PLAN | Generations Intergenerational Center first and foremost cares about the health and safety of our staff, members, tenants and community who utilize our facility. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will institute strict adherence to U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) protocol for cleaning, hygiene and social distancing. Generations serves a high-risk population. It is imperative that all follow the guidelines as stated in this guidance.

• Do NOT come to Generations if you have any of the following symptoms: fever above 100.4, dry cough, shortness of breath, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, loss of taste of smell, diarrhea or vomiting.

• If you live with or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 do NOT come to Generations for a minimum of 14 days.

• If you have tested positive for COVID-19 you may not return to the facility until you have met all of the following:

Mandatory quarantine completed

No longer have symptoms

Have gone 24-hours fever-free without using fever reducing medications.

Facility Requirements

• Hand sanitizing and handwashing stations have been set up throughout the building. Everyone entering Generations is required to sanitize or wash hands upon entering the building and upon exiting.

• Everyone will be required to wear masks while in the building. Cloth face masks will be provided by Generations to staff and members. These should be washed after each use. The face masks should not be touched while you are wearing them. The only exception being those who for a health condition cannot. In this case, Generations will provide them a face shield. It is highly recommended and desired that anyone in exercise classes wears a mask during class.

• Everyone must enter Generations from the east doors (Door B) and exit the north doors (Door D) or the doors that open to the patio.

• Lingering and conversations in the hallway should be limited to allow for the free flow of traffic through the building and the provision of social distancing. We ask that you have conversations outside or in larger space rooms that allow for proper social distancing.

• It is highly recommended that all shower once they return home.

• Avoid touching your face: eyes, nose, mouth. If you do, you must immediately hand wash or sanitize and avoid touching anything until you do.

• If you must sneeze of cough, use a tissue, paper towel or napkin and immediately discard in the trash and wash or sanitize your hands.

• If you touch your cell phone, wash your hands or sanitize immediately afterwards.

• Sanitize or wash your hands before and after drinking or eating anything.

• Social distance when possible of 6 feet and 10 feet in exercise classes.

• Water fountains will be shut off.

• Food and drink are not allowed for any activities where games pieces, cards, paddles, cues, etc. are shared.

• Remember effective hand hygiene, including washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before preparing or eating food; after using the bathroom; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

• Stay home when you are sick, exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19 (shortness of breath, dry cough, fever above 100.4, chills, headaches, loss of taste or smell, muscle pain, intestinal issues), have tested positive for COVID-19 even if asymptomatic, or have had exposure to someone diagnosed with COVID-19. Anyone who has been ill, is not allowed back into the facility until they have been fever-free without fever-reducing medications for a minimum of 24 hours and completed the 14-day required quarantine.

Facility Requirements Cont.

• The coffee bar will not be available until further notice.

• Do not share or touch anyone else’s equipment.

• Everyone will be asked a series of health-related questions before entering the facility.

• Please scan your membership card to check-in as normal. We ask that you pre-register for classes as we are limiting class sizes. To pre-register call Generations at 920-892-4858 so a staff member or volunteer can register you for class.

Fitness Class Requirements

• Fitness classes will be limited in participants to adhere to required social distancing guidelines.

• It is highly recommended and desirable that all exercise participants wear face masks throughout class.

• Please maintain 10 feet of social distancing.

• Pre-registration is required for attending classes so we can maintain class limits due to social distancing and in case contact tracing would be necessary.

• If you have your own equipment, Generations asks that you use it. For those without equipment, Generations will continue to supply equipment but used equipment must be placed on the “Used” cart after class. Equipment will be washed at the end of each class. Please understand that due to limited supply of equipment and strict order quantities being enforced by our suppliers, the equipment you normally use, may not be available. Please do not touch anyone else’s equipment.

• Any chairs needed for classes must be taken from the “Cleaned” chair stacks and left on the floor for staff to sanitize.

• Class times will be staggered to allow for social distancing while entering and exiting the building. Generations asks that if you wish to have a conversation, you do so outside or in a larger space that allows social distancing.

Thank you for your cooperation.
