National Institute on Genealogical Research (NIGR) The National Institute on Genealogical Research (N.I.G.R.), at

the National Archives in Washington D.C. and College Park, Maryland, is an intensive program offering on-site examination of federal records. Designed for experienced researchers, it is not an introduction to genealogy.

The 2012 program focuses on commonly used records such as

immigration, military, land, African American, and naturalization. Complementing those core lectures will be presentations on lesser-known federal records useful to family historians. The group spends one day at Archives II in College Park, Maryland, and there are optional evening sessions at the Library of Congress and the DAR library.

Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy SLIG http://www.infouga.org/cpage.php?pt=42

SLIG has been providing top-notch genealogical education for fifteen years. The courses are primarily focused at the advanced level, with Course 1: American Research and Records Parts 1 and 2 with Paula Stuart-Warren, providing a good intermediate foundation. SLIG is structured in "tracks". Each track equates to either a locality or a methodological subject. Each track provides at least twenty hours of in-depth instruction. Students choose one track for the week and leave with a deeper understanding of their chosen topic than a traditional conference can impart. SLIG is dedicated to providing a forum for the best genealogical educators in the field to present their knowledge to avid family historians.

ProGen Study Group http://progenstudy.org/

The ProGen study groups are made up of professional genealogists, individuals with excellent research skills working to become professional genealogists, and other serious researchers who want to do professional level research. While not all participants are currently taking clients, each one is required to complete all the assignments, including the ones focusing on business practices. Each member has unique experiences and skills that they bring to the group.

NGSQ Article Study Groups http://sherifenley.blogspot.com/2011/06/ngsq-articles-online-study-group.html

These groups meet once a month online to discuss an article from the NGS Quarterly. This study is based on the model set forth by Dr. William M. Litchman where each participant reads the selected article from the NGSQ several times making notes about the research techniques, evidence and logic used in solving the genealogy problem. Members meet online to discuss the methodology used in the article and take turns moderating the discussions.

Genealogy Tip

Even if you can not attend a conference or lecture, review the list of topics. That topic is what the conference feels researchers need.

Who are the speakers? They are some of the leaders in the genealogical community! See if they have a blog, written a book, presented a Webinar and learn from them!
