More Gifts For Us All!

the holiday season again with all of its joy and giving. It's a good time. But as I look back at I realize I've gotten "giftsw all year long not at christmas time.

A distant cousin in Georgia (an eighth, no less) is the President of the Willcox Family Association and she has seen to it to reprint a family history book that was first printed in 1910. She had beautiful hard bound copies for only $9.50 Now that's a gift! I had asked a book search service to get that same book for me and I was prepared to pay $60 or more.

Another cousin, all the way out in Washington state, completed her book on the Allen family and when I looked through it I discovered she had added two new family names to my chart and four new generations. Another nice gift.

Then a friend called and said he had spotted another generation of my Birdsong line in the family charts published several years ago by the Greenville Genealogical Society. All in all, I had a very good year just by keeping up with friends and cousins.

I hope the charts in this issue of the Newsletter and the ones published in the last Newsletter add a few names to your charts also. If you have been keeping up with your cousins, I hope they have helped you and you have helped them. It sure makes for a better year when one has added a few names and a few generations. But then that's the good thing about genealogy, it allows us to give and to get presents all year. Just keep up with those cousins and friends. Those gifts will keep coming in. So, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too!

THE NEW YEAR MEANS RE-UP TIME.

A few weeks ago some friends and I were talking and we decided genealogy is probably the least expensive hobby there is. The small cost of membership, a few stamps and supplies, an occasional book, a few long distance call--all in all not much expense when one considers the joy received.

That good message is something we need to tell our friends and cousins. They need to experience this good fun--and we need to expand our membership.

Which leads to another thought--it's time for us all to make sure we have renewed our membership in the society. If you want to get the

S.C. Society's literature, you have to be enrolled by the end of February so our Treasurer can get your name in to the state Treasurer. If you are out-of-town then just send your membership in to the post office box. It's $10 for associate membership, $15 for individual membership and $20 for families. If you are within Sunday afternoon traveling distance, come to the meeting and rejoin there. In any event, let's get ready for a new genealogy year. And let's spread the good word.
