WALK-A-ROUND 2010 - WHAT A FUN DAY!From a chickens perspective, I think the Walk-A-Round was a fantastic day to participatein a time-honored tradition at Garden Gate, get some great exercise, enjoy the sunny day,and raise some funds for PTA to help keep some of our many wonderful programs alive andwell at Garden Gate. Many thanks to all of the volunteers, especially to Chairperson RamyVasudevan, Duleep Pillai, Manonmani Ramdass, Lavanya Kandula, and Merav Talmor!

JOIN GARDEN GATE STAFF FOR DINNER @ TGI FRIDAYS ON COMMUNITYDAY, TUESDAY, MAY 4TH WHEN 20% PERCENT OF SALES WILL BEDONATED TO THEIR FUTURE IS NOW CAMPAIGN.

Please plan to join many of our staff members for dinner at TGI Fridays nextTuesday, May 4. Although there isnt a set schedule, quite a few of our staffmembers, including me, are planning on being at TGI Fridays sometime between4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Since we have our kindergarten music performances thatevening, Ill be at the restaurant sometime between 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Other staffmembers may be there at different times. This is a great way to show support for

Garden Gate, our school district, and the Cupertino community, as a whole plus itll be a fun outing for your fam

Remember to bring your "Community Day Golden Ticket" coming home in todays green folder to TGIFridays.

ASIAN AMERICAN DONOR PROGRAM (AADP) DRIVE @ GARDEN GATE, MONDAY, MAY3RD.Recently, I learned that the aunt of Grace Chang, one of our staff members, is seriously ill and inneed of a bone marrow transplant. I also learned that there is a pressing need in the Asiancommunity, as well as in the general population, for bone marrow donors. Because of this, I haveinvited the AADP to our campus this coming Monday, May 3.

They will have information available to educate and raise awareness and register any interestedpeople as potential donors. The Asian American Donor Program (AADP) is a nonprofit organization whose missiit is to recruit minority bone marrow donors. Currently, less than 30% of donors in the national bone marrow regisare minorities. This is an important statistic because the best patient/donor matches are done within the sam

ethnicity. This means that minority patients have a much higher probability of passing away before finding a matthan Caucasian patients.

AADP works hard at recruiting minorities to ensure that they have the same chance as a Caucasian patient finding a successful, life-saving match. Registering as a donor takes less than 10 minutes & the requirements asimple. Donors must be between 18-60 years of age and in general good health. Donors fill out a consent foand provide a cheek swab its just like brushing your teeth.

Wow, what a successful day! Our Garden Gate kids walked, trotted and ran the loopof the field like troopers! The weather was great, our teachers and volunteers werethe BEST! Thank you all - you organized, fed, watered, walked, tallied, played music,cleaned-up, took photos, counted money, did data entry and I hope - generally had a blast!

We wont have a total of the donation amounts until the students bring back their pledges. I will let you knthe numbers when I get them. Regardless of the numbers, the day was a high spirited and very specialcommunity effort. Thank you especially to Ramya Vasudevan and Manonmani Ramadass who ran this evwith the willing assistance of so many people! Thank You!

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

The students are busy collecting their pledges which are due May 7th, then we will tally the numbers and gout the raffle tickets. Students will have three days (May 17-19th) to get their raffle tickets into their chosenprize boxes in the GLC, and then we will have the Raffle Drawing on May 19th. So please assist your chilwith their pledge collection.

Please note: Any matching funds are truly appreciated, but they cannot be counted towards raffle tickets. matches are never certain until the check arrives and it is often months after the raffle has ended. Thank yfor your understanding in this matter.

DONT LOSE YOUR PLACE AT GARDEN GATEWe have noticed that many families are starting to maketravel plans for the summer break. This is just a reminderthat CUSD policy states that allstudents must be in classon the last day ofschool. Students risk losing theirplacement at Garden Gate School for the 2010/2011 schoolyear if they are not present on the last day of school, June10th. Students must also be present on the first day of the2010/2011 school year, August 19th, 2010.

SAFETY TIPS. . . Use corners and crosswalks to get to school. Crossingbetween parked cars is very dangerous. Always come to a complete stop at stop signs and wait asecond to make sure the intersection is clear. Yield right of way to the children. Do not block neighbors driveways. Please be respectful to our traffic volunteers. They are outthere to keep our children safe!
