Attendance and Punctuality: Key to Your Students SuccessResearch shows that children with consistent school attendance learn more. Regular attendance and punctuality are importlife skills that we need to instill in our students. A student who is 10 minutes late every day will miss 30 hours of instructionduring the year. Children who are late or absent can copy notes or make up an assignment, but they can never get backwhats most important the discussion, the questions, the explanations by the teacher and the thinking that makes learning

come alive. Tardiness of students also takes away teacher time and class learning time. At 7:55 a.m. there is awarning bell that rings throughout the school to remind students to go directly to class and line up. At 8:00 a.m. a final bellrings to start the school day. Students that are tardy will be marked late on the class attendance reports as per school policy.Your childs success depends on having a solid educational background one that can be gained through punctuality andregular school attendance. Thank you for your consistent support of this policy.

Eating Breakfast Improves Attendance and ConcentrationThere used to be a cereal that advertised itself as the Breakfast of Champions. That may or may not have been truebutthere is no question that some sort of healthy food in the morning helps kids become champions in school. One HarvardMedical School study looked at how breakfast affected attendance and school performance. They found that children who eabreakfast have: Better attendance, fewer episodes of tardiness, higher math scores, and a stronger ability to concentrate inclass. Of course with todays hectic schedules, there isnt always time to sit down for a long breakfast, so you can be prepareby keeping a few healthy grab-and-go options. A granola bar and a piece of fruit will get your child off to a good start. So willdried cereal and fruit juice. In a pinch, a piece of last nights pizza will do!

PropellersDo you wonder how to connect better with your children? Do you wonder what matters to them, and how you can assist themto grow up to be healthy, caring and responsible citizens? I encourage you to try a "propeller" - a question intended to sparkconversations with your children. Try it around the dinner table tonight!
