Then the plots are distributed for a small fee to offset cost. If there are leftover garden plots then a third plot is given out for free. The garden plots are an opportunity for people all over the world to grow the things they love while building community at the same time. Culp said that it is not obvious on a map, but you can tell that residents from the same country and/ or background like to garden in plots next to each other and go out to the garden plots to garden together and bond. Some people use the garden plots for sustaining farming and use it to provide for their families. Other people just enjoy being able to grow some of the things they cannot find in the grocery stores here in Oklahoma to get a taste from home. Water squash is a popular item that people grow in the garden plots that is indigenous to china “I think it is something social and practical, and it’s something residents enjoy doing that’s cheap,” Culp said. Garden Plot SuccessBy Ashlee Jefferson, Communications & Marketing Assistant

For 20 years, the FRC has offered garden plots to the residents of FGSH housing. Garden plots have been popular with the residents since its start.

Jason Culp, Assistant Resident Director and Desk Clerk Manager, noticed that people keep their plots for many years.

“I think the garden plots are so appealing because people enjoy the opportunity to grow things that they otherwise would not have access to,” Culp said who manages the garden plots.

The garden plots are located on the north side of Williams apartments and is a program strictly for the residents of Family and Graduate Student Housing. Residents check-out garden plots through the FRC and receive up to three plots to grow whatever they like.

Garden plots sign ups start at the beginning of March after the mandatory meeting. Then the plots are distributed for a small fee to offset cost. If there are leftover garden plots then a third plot is given out for free.

The garden plots are an opportunity for people all over the world to grow the things they love while building community at the same time.

Culp said that it is not obvious on a map, but you can tell that

residents from the same country and/or background like to garden in plots next to each other and go out to the garden plots to garden together and bond.

Some people use the garden plots for sustaining farming and use it to provide for their families. Other people just enjoy being able to grow some of the things they cannot find in the grocery stores here in Oklahoma to get a taste from home. Water squash is a popular item that people grow in the garden plots that is indigenous to china

“I think it is something social and practical, and it’s something residents enjoy doing that’s cheap,” Culp said.

This program is popular so be sure to join in on the fun. If you are interested in the garden plots, make sure you sign up next spring!

Dear Residents, The staff of the FGSH office, the FRC and the Apartment Assistants join me in wishing you the best of luck on finals and end of semester projects, research or teaching assignments. We also congratulate all of you who are graduating. It is with mixed feelings we say goodbye to those of you who are starting a new chapter in your lives. It is always sad to see residents leave the FGSH community, but we know you move into the future with a sound educational background and a sense of pride shared by other OSU graduates. Remember to give written notice in the Housing and Residential Life Office in Iba Hall before vacating your apartment. Residents may give notice regarding their planned checkout day at any time; there is no time requirement on giving advanced notice of checkout. A vacating letter will be emailed to residents who give at least one week’s notice for vacating. Once you have given your written notice to vacate, don’t forget to schedule a check out inspection. If you would like to be present at the checkout inspection, you must schedule the inspection at least two business days before the day in which you would like the inspection to occur. We strongly encourage you to be present at the checkout inspection. Remember that May is a busy time for people to vacate, so try to schedule your check out appointment as soon as you can, or you may not get your first choice in inspection times. If you are planning to be gone only for the summer (and return in the fall), don’t forget you may put your apartment in summer storage and pay a reduced rate. For those of you staying in FGSH this summer, I hope you will participate in the summer activities planned at the FRC and within your neighborhoods. Have a great summer!

Announcement

During the month of May, the Youth & Family Programs staff will be assisting all parents in completing new enrollment forms for children to participate in Summer 2014 programs. All parents who would like their child to participate in summer programming must fill out a new enrollment form regardless of whether or not your child was previously enrolled. We will not enroll children for summer programs before Thursday, May 22nd. Children will be enrolled in programs on a first-come, first-serve basis and enrollment for some of our programs will be limited.

Enrollment for Summer Programs 2014

All parents of children enrolled in programs are required to attend a parent meeting regarding summer programs on Friday, May 23rd at 5:30pm. Parents must attend this meeting in order for their children to attend summer programs. At this informational meeting, parents will have the opportunity to meet the Youth & Family Programming staff, become aware of children’s programming policies and procedures, learn about special programs and field trips and ask questions.
