WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL

Walt Disney Concert Hall opened on October 24, 2003. The hall started to be built in 1987, when Lillian Disney, the wife of Walt Disney, donated 50 million dollars. The construction of the underground parking garage began in

1992 and was completed in 1996. Construction stopped in 1996 due to lack of funding. Fortunately, the fundraiser restarted. The Walt Disney Concert Hall is in downtown Los Angeles.

THE BFG

The BFG is a book by Roald Dahl that was later made into a movie. The book was published in 1962. The characters include the Queen of England; The BFG, or the Big Friendly Giant; Mary; Sophie; Mr. Tibbs and the monster. My favorite

character is Sophie because in the movie and book she saw the Big Friendly Giant. She was scared but later in the story, she is friends with the BFG and I love how she is so nice.

GREEN EGGS AND HAM

In Dr. Seuss’ book, Green Eggs and Ham, there is an animal who does not like green eggs and ham. Sam I Am is his friend that wants him to eat it. He follows him everywhere he goes like in a house, in a box, in a car, in a

THE LA ZOO

The Los Angeles Zoo is a great place to visit for animal lovers. The animals are super cute and you can see and pet the animals and watch them do some cool tricks. For dinosaur-enthusiasts, there is a dinosaur

exhibit. Visitors can see bones and hear the sounds that dinosaurs would make. There is also a gift shop where you can buy stuffed animals and toys.

THE AMAZING DISNEYLANDDisneyland is a fun place to go because you can go on rides and eat popcorn and cotton candy. You can buy toys and get all types of jewelry. There are great rides like the Ferris Wheel and there are big rides that are really fun. There are games where you can win

hats and stuffed animals. Some people like to go to different places but in my opinion, Disneyland is really fun with many cool things. You can get cool wizard hats, cool shirts, and glasses. You can get cool mugs and cool accessories.

SONIC BOOM

There is a book with a character named Sonic Boom and it is super cool. I think it is funny because Sonic runs very fast. The book is not boring because Sonic gets in a fight with Black Sonic and Black Sonic wins. Sonic does not back down and his

friend stops Black Sonic. Black Sonic runs and they don’t find him. A week later, they find Black Sonic with Sonic and he was…. alive and he was fighting him. Again, he was going to beat him but he didn’t.

BAD KITTYThe characters in Bad Kitty are puppy and Kitty. The story takes place at a house and the puppy and Kitty are not listening. The best characters are puppies because they are little puppies. I chose the book because it had puppies and dogs. The book is good because it is funny. People of all ages will like this book. Bad Kitty is really interesting

because it has puppies and dogs and a school. The story is very funny. Bad Kitty is cool because there are a lot of pets and animals. There are a lot of people and it is a nice book to read. It had a lot of interesting things like dogs that don’t like cats. It is a really fun book.

If I could add a class to our regular Leland school schedule, I would add a “Video Game” class because kids can play games like Minecraft, Mario Kart, Just Dance, and more! Kids can enjoy themselves while playing video games! Kids would love it and have the best

CHARLEY SKEDADDLE

Charley Skedaddle is a chapter book from the author Patricia Beatty. Charley Stephen Quinn is a 12 year old boy in the Bowery Boy New York gang. Charley is stubborn and arrogant causing him trouble left and right! Charley is an adamant kid who want to join the army to fight in the Civil War. The story takes place in New York. The book is about Charley wanting to join the army, and he joins! He later

finds out the army isn’t for him. Charley had seen so many horrifying things during his first battle, that he ran off! Charley was staying alive luckily, and he had traveled to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Later he met Jerusha Bent. Jerusha is the woman who teaches Charley how to be a true man. Charley gains some respect and matures a little! My favorite character is Jerusha Bent. Jerusha

is my favorite character because she smacks some sense into Charley and she has such an interesting back story. Jerusha is like a mind-reader. She is also really wise! I would recommend this book to people who like fiction and the Civil War. I would recommend this book to everyone. It is a really good book.

Should animation be taught in school? Does it need recognition? Why, of course! Animation is amazing at communicating things that can’t be spoken directly. You can basically animate any subject and it can appeal to all learning types. Animations are

key to entertaining a child’s brain! Now lay back, and let me tell you why animation should be in schools. Animation can basically teach any topic in class. The article 7 Ways Animation Can Help Enhance Learning in the Classroom states “Science is commonly

THE GRAND ANNEX

The Giver is by Lois Lowry and is a 1993 American young adult dystopian novel. The book’s setting is in a utopia. There is a 12-year-old named Jonas. Jonas gets a position as the Receiver of Memory. The community can only see the color like gray and white. Jonas gets some

type of memory and gets to see colors which he never saw before. He also had to take some pills so he could not love anybody. Jonas does not take the pills and starts to like a girl named Fiona. The community gives you a husband or wife and kids.

I enjoyed visiting the Grand Annex Concert Hall because my class went there on a field trip and listened to the band Honey Whiskey there. Their names were Ann, Louise and Christina.

THE GIVER

Ann is talented at body percussion but Christina was sick so she could not sing. They sing a lot of a capella music and are on YouTube. I liked the performance because it

inspired people to go up on the stage and sing songs. I like when our class got to sing and get recorded. We got on the bus and listened to music.

My favorite place in the Huntington Library is the Children’s Garden. One reason why I love the garden is because of the steam room. The steam room was really calm and it was a good place to relax. Another reason that the steam room is cool is because if you

My favorite exhibit at the Huntington Library is the Children’s Garden. The Children’s Garden is so much fun, because there are little chairs and tables. There are little tunnels in there too. You get rained on (with fake rain/water sprinklers). It

is really fun in the Children’s Garden. You can go and do a lot of fun things in the Children’s Garden. My favorite part is the Rainbow Tunnel.

My favorite thing at the Huntington Library was everything, but if I were to choose one, it would be the Children’s Garden. The Children’s Garden was my favorite because they had really cool stuff. The first cool thing they had was making music with pebbles. It was cool because if you dropped a

pebble rock through the needles, it would make music. For example, you can’t just go to a park and drop rocks through some needles and it makes music. Another cool thing at the Children’s Garden was the little house.

I also liked the scientific information like where it said what type of flower the bees mostly stand on. I thought of myself as a scientist. I got to experience how scientists work with a microscope where we got to see all the animals in a container. I also liked the Venus fly trap. My favorite part about the Venus fly trap is that there was a fly inside of it. I also liked the edible native cycle because the first flower I tried, the flower was dry and a little spicy. I also liked the loquat and how it was sweet and juicy. It tasted like an orange but sweeter. I also liked the

tangerine, because it was juicy and I was dehydrated. I learned that tangerines are like oranges but smaller. I also liked the Sea Heart seed because it was so hard to sink the Sea Heart in the water. The Sea Heart was hard. I also got to feel the Hamburger seed that look peculiar but overall, I liked it. I liked the water fan in the Children’s Garden where we got to put our hands in it, and it was really cold and realistic. I mostly liked all the different Garden designs in the Huntington Library. And I also liked

the PressFriends Scavenger Hunt because it was fun. We got to spot the kinetic sand, the rain where you had to drop the pebbles in. I liked that there was this hanging out stop with two chairs and one log; I liked that it was quiet. I would call it the “quiet tree house”, where you could have privacy.

THE CHILDREN’S GARDEN (cont’d from p. 1)

What I liked about the Children’s Garden is the fog room. I like the fog room because it was relaxing and fun. It was extra fun when we played tag and we could not see. Another attraction at the Children’s Garden was the Rainbow Tunnel. The Rainbow Tunnel was cool to explore because you got to go to more little places. One thing I enjoyed was where you can make your

FOG ROOM FUNown music. It was called the pebble chimes. What you had to do to make your own music is you need to put the pebble into the top of the pebble chime, and it makes a very relaxing sound. The last thing I want to talk about is the way into the Children’s Garden because it looks like a fairy door. I really like fairy things, like the door.

THE AMAZING CHILDREN’S GARDEN

In my opinion, I think that the Children’s Garden was the best section of the Huntington Library. Here are some reasons why. One reason is that the musical tune made by pebbles on rocks was really good and I loved the sound it made. This musical vent was a cool thing to have. It was nice to hear the notes and keys. The second reason is that the rainbow tunnel was amazing. It was like a big secret lair. I really enjoyed the colors and when you

were in the tunnel, you could see a really breathtaking end wonderful rainbow. Finally, I loved this cool looking water fog thing. This was a really cool experience for me. The fog was cool because you barely could see who was there. This was a nice thing to find. In conclusion, my favorite site and experience was the Children’s Garden.

FISH AND FLOWERS

My favorite part of the Huntington Library was the Children’s Garden, and the fish in the pond there. I thought that the fish were really cool. There also were scents from the different plants. The one thing that I liked about the Garden was the Rocks with the sound. In the Ranch Garden, you could eat flowers and

berries. I loved the fog room in the Rain Forest Garden. I loved all the plants and I loved the Jimmy Johns lunch. All the staff here are so nice. I love this place and if I had to rate it, I would choose 10. I love to walk around. I like how the hallway was so cool and the auditorium was so nice.

There was a Rainbow Tunnel, steam room, and magnetic sand. My favorite place in the garden was the steam room and the magnetic

I like the Conservatory because it is science. You can look through

a microscope and you can sample the plants. You can spin the wheels and the seeds fly up. Exit the doors and you can see the whole Children’s Garden. You can feel the fountain at the Children’s Garden. It is so cool and when you splash, the water comes up again. Thank you.

THE RANCH GARDEN

The Ranch Garden was my favorite garden because we got to sample fruit that was not familiar to me. I had a lot of samples because they allowed me to have a lot. They said I could only have a couple but I think I got the most. The mulberry plant tasted very sweet. I kind of did not like the mulberry plant because I like sour things, not sweet things. I do like sweet things but not as much as sour things. The flowers were spiced; the sauce helped a little bit with the spiciness but it was still pretty spicy. The loquats were just the right amount of sweetness. I did not have a lot

of the small loquat, but I had a lot of the big one. I actually almost had the entire bowl of loquats. Then they told us that it was time to go and it was kind of sad, but at least they gave me a couple of loquats when I was about to leave. They were pretty and out of fruit and I wondered if they would have enough fruit to give to all the groups because there were very little pieces of fruit and I saw the other group eating the fruits that were left. I felt bad that there was very little fruit because I had eaten most of it, but what’s done is done. You cannot change what you

My favorite place at the Huntington Library was the Children’s Garden. One reason that I liked this garden was that there was so much room to run around. The second reason is there is a little water park where you can dip your hands. The third reason is that there was a spot where it seemed to fog up in a spot for 1-2 minutes which

is super cool. The water got on you which felt refreshing because it was such a hot day. The fourth reason is there were two or three little houses and you could play around in it. The fifth reason is there is kinetic sand which stuck with the metal. It was so cool. Those are all of my reasons why I like the Children’s Garden.

It was so fun

Sarah Stackhouse was my favorite on the solos. Because she sings so well. Sarah Stackhouse has a talent and also her performance was so amazing. I wish I could see more from Sarah Stackhouse. I would like

Sarah Stackhouse to sing Ariana Grande’s Thank You Next. Next time I see her I’m going to tell her she was so amazing.

SONG AND VOCALS

Chris and Darius talked about nurses, doctors, eye and ear doctors, and people who check their saliva. And we talked about Carrie being sick, having to be rushed to the hospital, and how she had to get checked out. We talked about what qualities they have,

how their qualities can help people, and we talked about the sickness that she had. Darius wants to be a dentist and Chris wants to be a doctor.

Josh is a talented tenor, which means he sings very high pitched. When we interviewed Josh he said he’s a nerd because he wants to be a math professor. He also said, “lots of people making

different sounds messy but when we all sing together it sounds vibrant and smooth”.

FUN WRITER’S NEW BOOK

Tyrah Majors wrote a book called Grammy and Me. The book is about her mom picking her up and dropping her off with her grandma. They went places. Her grandma said, “let’s bake cookies”. She let her make the dough, they put toppings, and she tried to put it in the oven. Her grandma said, “No No No too hot”. She wrote the book for children to learn to be kind, respectful, and to be nice to each other. She said to us

“What’s our favorite book?” Then she asked what did you learn from it and how did it make you a better citizen? As an author, they can make you more aware of the world around you. They can inform you about other cultures, food, music, and values. I learned that reading makes you be a good student and happy. So if you can read you should.

ALL ABOUT SOPHIA

When on the trip to USC, we had presentations. One was about health, being a global citizen, and my favorite one was addressing global water challenges with Sophia Lauren Plata. I loved it so much, and here's why… whenever we would say or answer a question, we would get either chocolate or sweet candy. Second

more energy= more fossil fuels= climate change. And that's why Sophia was my favorite presenter.

Sophia was born in San Diego, CA, but spent the majority of her childhood in Mexico City, Mexico. She was introduced to engineering by her Dad who was an engineer himself and an architect.

was she taught us so many things we didn’t know about water! Sophia was a Ph.D. student in the environmental engineering department at USC. Here are some interesting facts she told us that I didn't know… 71% of the earth is water, oceans make up 96.5% of all earth’s water, and

IF THERE’S A DROUGHT

I learned about water and how it works. Certain places don’t have enough water to drink. If there was a drought we would need water. But how? People are creating a machine that can make salt water to clean water. And if it's super salty water they can waste water. Water that we use after using the bathroom. I know that's gross. But why? Because

people go #1 and #2 in there so it's bad for people to drink. But there's also a possibility for it to clean it out. Then it makes it salty water which is pushed in the machine until it makes clean water.

GLOBAL MEDICINE

Water is when you can drink. Water is good for you and can make you be big and strong. If there is salty water and that is bad for your eyes and if you get some in your mouth it tastes bad. If you know you can put water in pipes and that will give you the water.

When you turn on the sewer you can hear the water that's in the pipes that are in the walls and that gives you water. Thank you.

Our speakers Chris and Darius want to be doctors and dentists. Chris wants to be a dentist which is a doctor that learns about teeth, braces, retainer, and silver teeth, or you get cavities. The dentist has to take all the cavities out. Darius wants to be a doctor. This is all about doctors which is a surgeon, doctor, nurse and there's more. The

doctor helps people when they’re sick. The doctor heals them. Sometimes it takes time for the patient. Sometimes doctors have to take the patient in the ER. These are some more jobs in the medical field: pharmacy, EMT, physician assistant, medication for pharmacist.

TYRAH THE BOOK MAKER

We talked about being a global citizen and we talked to Tyrah and how she created a book called Granny and Me. I learned to follow your heart and let books inspire you and to never follow the bad things in the world or in books because, in the end, you’re the one who suffers. So listen to the lessons that are told in the books. At the end of the presentation, she told us about how she really liked showing us her book.

Nurse, Doctor, and lab people will help you with your sickness and it will help you get better for school. You can ask your friend to bring your homework. You can get better in a few days and you can see your friends again. You can say thank you to your doctor and you get a lollipop after you go to the doctor. If you are so sick go to the Rite Aid and get your medicine over there. Thank you.

JOSH THE TENOR

Dominic came and he sang a core note and he talked about the different notes. He introduced himself and showed us the different voices. And he sang us a song and told us about how he made

it into singing auditions and how he failed, but next year made it. We got to watch them do a performance for us. It was very great and I really enjoyed watching them sing.

DOMINIC THE SINGING MACHINE

Josh is a tenor who plays the guitar. He also does math and he wants to be a math professor. He said that singers with long necks have it easier to achieve higher notes. Josh’s favorite singer is Josh Groban. Josh has been practicing singing for three years a capella. USC has

lots of different a capella groups. An a capella group can have up to 14 people. Josh auditioned last year and did not get it, but he learned fast and he made it this year. Josh practices singing two hours a week and the highest note he can hit is a G.

Tyrah Majors talks about being a good citizen. She talks about picking up after yourself for littering and don’t throw food in the ocean because they will the ocean animals will die. Tyrah Majors talks about always being good

and to try things to have good empathy. Always be nice to others and follow the rules. She teaches us not to follow others and to tell the truth. It is not good to lie and do not hit people.
