Introduction:

A fuel cell is a device that converts the chemical energy from the fuel into electricity through chemical reaction with oxygen or another oxidizing agent.

It is clean, safe and reliable forms.

History:

Principle of fuel cell.

First fuel cell demonstrated.

First commercial use.

First hydrogen fuel cell in automobile.

United technologies corporation’s.

Why hydrogen fuel cell technology?

Solar energy.

Wind energy.

Non-renewable energy sources.

Fuel cell energy.

HOW FUEL CELL WORKING?

Classification:a.)low temperature fuel cells: 1.)Polymer electrode membranes fuel cell 2.)Alkaline fuel cell 3.)Phosphoric acid fuel cellb.)High temperature fuel cells: 1.)Molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) 2.) solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)

APPLICATION:

1.)Power generation2.)automobile 3.)Others Base stations or cell sites Distributed generation Emergency power systems Telecommunication Uninterrupted power supply (UPS) Base load power plants Fuel cell APU for Refuse Collection Vehicle Hybrid vehicles Notebook computers Smart phones

Future trend in fuel cell:

These improved fuel cells may soon be seen in many areas of our lives. For example, fuel cells may soon provide auxiliary equipment power on commercial aircraft.

They could be used in cars, commercial power plants, and personal electronics.

Glenn is developing and investigating fuel cells for emissions-free aircraft, the International Space Station, reusable launch vehicles, a Mars airplane as well as for systems to produce electricity and store energy on the Moon and Mars.

Conclusion:

The Direct Fuel Cell is a perfect fit for a number of emerging markets that require a technology that can provide Ultra-Clean distributed generation over a range of sizes.

While alternative sources of electrical energy are generally viewed in the role of backup power, fuel cells are beginning to take centre stage for base load power in DG applications.

Fuel Cell Energy is at the forefront of such progress and is certain to remain so with the company’s continually evolving Direct Fuel Cell technology and products.
