Well done to all students in Years 3-6 who researched and prepared a speech as part of the annual Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. It is a difficult task to get up in front of our peers and deliver a speech and everyone should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations to our class winners who had to do it all again but this time in the hall in front of the whole stage and our teacher adjudicators. Our class winners were. 3E Ryon R and Ezekiel F 3G Maddy B and Asher B 3P Ifraah A and Glories A 3/4H Naziha T and Zaviaar I 4B Kristy S and Anitta J 4D Zelda M and Isabella B 4G Hannah L and Aden A 5A Bella W and Lily S 5C Tyson S 5L Monna S and Ella M 5/6M Abyan C and Zarif H 6B Naeva M and Nicholas A 6P Meenakshi A P and Amelia T 6S Harley B and Lily C Our Stage 2 Finalists were: Anitta J and Isabella B. However, it was a tough decision for the adjudicators in Stage 3 and after agreeing on four finalists, Bella W, Abyan C, Lily S and Naeva M, these students were required to do an impromptu speech to choose the final two winners with our Stage 3 Finalists being: Lily S and Naeva M. On Thursday the 17th of June these four finalists proudly represented our school at our Zone Final, here at Bradbury Public School. They all did an amazing job with their prepared and impromptu speeches. Isabella and Anitta had to talk about ‘Scary Stuff’ and Lily and Naeva had to talk about ‘Second Chances’ for their impromptu topic. Naeva was awarded Highly Commended. A big thank you to all the staff and students who assisted on the day.

Once again, we will be entering students in the Premier’s Spelling Bee. Early next term students will participate in a class Spelling Bee and then 2 winners from each class will go through to the stage finals. The stage finals will be held on Wednesday of Week 3, which is the 28th of July. One student from each stage will progress through to the regional final. Regional finals will be held online between the 23 August and 3 September – Term 3 Week 7 and Week 8. More information regarding this will be shared next term with the two finalists. This link will take you to the word list if you want to have a look at it over the holidays. The password will come out on Seesaw as due to copyright reasons we are not allowed to publish the password on an open forum. 2021 Premier’s Spelling Bee (https://www.artsunit.nsw.edu.au/premiers-spelling-bee-2021) Good luck to all our wonderful spellers!

Well done to all students in 5/6M who researched an eminent person to showcase at our ‘Night of the

Notables’. Students were required to write a biography on their chosen person, create a Learning

Centre that highlighted a timeline and noteworthy events in the person's life and why they are deemed

notable. They also needed to design a hands-on activity and a souvenir relevant to their person.

Probably the hardest part was the bioriddle they had to write and memorise for the audience to guess

who they were. It was an amazing day of celebrating student learning after a term of preparing for the

event. Students looked fabulous in their costumes and the Library looked amazing once we had set up

all the learning centres. Our student visitors had a wonderful time exploring and playing many of the

hands-on activities during the day and our parents were amazed by the students work and new

knowledge.

Infants Fun Run

The rain held off so K-2 could participate in our annual fun run on Tuesday 15th June. A great effort by all

students. There were so many smiling faces as the students made their way around the track. It was

fantastic to invite the community to this event. Thank you to all families who attended.

Library News Congratulations to the many students who have finished their PRC reading for 2021, especially the Year 3's. Great reading! Please keep encouraging your child to keep reading. They have until August 20th to finish and put their books into the PRC website. Book club orders have arrived, but if you have any order problems please contact Mrs Smith before the end of term. Next term we will be having our first Book Fair, during education week. Week 3. Watch this space for more information next term. A huge thank you to our 2 new book coverers who have joined the team and doing a fantastic job ensuring our new books get to students quickly. There is still opportunity if you'd like to help, as there is always plenty to cover. Have a safe and restful break full of reading time. Quote I read recently: " Children who know adults who read for pleasure take it for granted that reading is a worthwhile activity" (Csikszentmihalyi,1991) Happy reading J. Smith Teacher Librarian 5L learning about Federation and Government 5L have been learning about federation and government during our History unit this term. As a class project they had to present a video of themselves as our next local leader, state premier or Prime Minister. They had to explain why they would make an amazing leader, how they would help their local community, their state or their country? What they are improving, why is this important to their area, state, or country? After being inspired by our visits from Greg Warren and Dr Micheal Freelander most of 5L chose the top job as Prime Minister, however, some students did choose State or local area leaders as well. 5L did an amazing job presenting their presentations to the class. Here are some of our next inspiring leaders of Australia.

STEM Camp Mrs Wasley took 10 Stage 3 Aboriginal students to the Blue Mountains for an overnight STEM Youth Development Camp conducted by the NSW AECG, the camp looked at inspiring and motivating students through STEM learning experiences that were both fun and challenging. The students thoroughly enjoyed participating in a range of Cultural and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical activities across the 2 days.

CONVERSATION GROUP We are pleased to begin our Conversation group for speakers of a language other than English next term. WHEN: Tuesday, 20 August 2021. 9 am - 10 am WHERE: in the old hall (down the steps from school Office) WHAT: Parents talking and listening together, discussing school topics and having morning tea. All welcome, I hope you can come. Enquiries to Mrs Elvery, via the Office.

Attendance update Your child may have brought home an attendance letter last week requesting a satisfactory explanation of partial or whole day absences over the previous 7-day period. These letters will be sent out weekly. We encourage the prompt return of these completed letters to our school office. If you have provided the School with an explanation after the date on the letter, please disregard. We remind you of the importance of providing a satisfactory explanation as per the Education Act 1990 which requires you to ensure your child attends School each day that instruction is provided unless they are prevented from doing so by sickness or other acceptable reason and for you to provide an explanation for any absence. The Act requires you to explain your child’s absences within seven days of their occurrence.
