I told her, “You sure can kick that ball hard.” She looked up at me and just as plain as day said, “It’s be- cause I eat my vegetables.” Time and again, I’ve returned to that exchange that day. She was right, you know. She did kick the ball hard because she ate her vegetables. I admire her for seeing that connection. Perhaps there are areas of life in which we often struggle be- cause we fail to see the right connections. If we are daily running out of gas, is it because our diet is poor and our exercise is lacking? Do we struggle to pay the bills each month because we fail to budget properly? If our life seems out of balance, could it be because we have become lax in our prayer life or faithful in Bible study and wor- ship? Are we missing out on being a part of the blessings God is be- stowing on our community because we are stuck in a rut from which we can’t get out? The time has come for FBC to begin to see the connections— the inner workings of how God is blessing us and our community. We have a rich history on which to draw from, and a bright future ahead of us. But the focus of our church right now has to be just that: Right Now. What can we do Right Now that will make an impact on our community? What can we be doing Right Now that will allow us to make connections around us so that unbelievers will become be- lievers, and believers will become mature multipliers of the message of Christ? As we embark on this new, exciting season of ministry at FBC, we need everyone to catch the vision and be ready to see big changes in our community. What is the church? Come and find out. Kids grow up fast, and it is difficult being a parent. The pressures of work and the franticpace of our culture can create anxiety and fatigue. Most parents want to become more effec-tive, but they aren’t sure how. On Monday nights, beginning September 9, we invite parentsto come and be a part of a new McGregor group called Parents Helping Parents (PHP). Thisgroup is for parents with children of all ages–newborns through teenagers–and will be a safeplace to talk about all that is involved in parenting. PHP is not group therapy, but it will be

therapeutic for those who feel like they are struggling to raise their children in a healthy way. PHP will abide by theelements of CHOICES of small groups: Confidentiality, Honesty, Openness, Involvement, Care, Encouragement, and Sensitivity. PHP is for all parents, regardless of whether they are married or single, biological or step-parents,Christian or nonChristian, Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, or Asian. PHP will meet for 8 weeks, beginning September 9, 2013, from 7:00-8:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 700 W.6th St. in McGregor. Light refreshments will be served. For information, contact Terry Johnston at First BaptistMcGregor at 254-840-3301 or 254-315-3684.
