Vol. 25, No. 6 March 8, 2013 Launchpad Contest I am pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual Launchpad Contest is underway. A contest in which INNOVATION is rewarded and STUDENT SUCCESS is the primary objective. Once again, the CCCD Foundation is sponsoring a $10,000 prize to the team that best captures an idea that can be implemented to increase student success and be replicable, scalable and sustainable. The Coast LAUNCHPAD INITIATIVE is a creative contest that will allow teams from of all our Coast locations to work together to develop creative and innovative methods that can be implemented and will increase student success. Check your email for an information sheet and team application form. Team applications must be submitted to Martha Parham ([email protected]) by 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 15. LERN Learning Resources Network (LERN) consultant Greg Marcello was at Coast this week to facilitate a program review for Community Services and Contract Education at all three colleges. LERN is an international association dedicated to lifelong learning programming. LERN specializes in providing practical, how-to information, and conducted interviews with representatives from all Coast locations. Mr. Marcello looked into the community education and community services functions and will be preparing a full report for review. I would like to thank the many Coast colleagues that participated in the review and look forward to the report that will help provide data in order to increase our efficiencies in these important programs. Orange County Legislative Task Force Trustee Mary Hornbuckle, Martha Parham and I attended this month's Orange County Legislative Task Force meeting. The OCLTF discussed recently introduced legislation that focuses on in-state tuition benefits for all Veterans in the country, regardless of residency. This aligns with recently proposed federal legislation that advocates the same for all states. Many states already offer in-state tuition for returning Veterans. The OCLTF will continue to monitor this and other legislation. Task Force members will soon be heading to Washington, D.C., to lobby on behalf of our community colleges and our Veteran students.
