Planet Earth is our common home, and Pope Francis has made it clear that care for our common home is a duty for all of us. He’s not the first to say this. As the Bible begins,

God commands the human being to be steward of the earth, which means to care for it on God’s behalf. But in many ways we have exploited, even plundered it rather than cared for it. That’s why Planet Earth, including our oceans, is in such trouble now. The Church’s response to this isn’t ideological, political or economic. It’s biblical and Chris-tian. That’s what we focus upon each year in the Season of Creation - how each of us and all of us together might care for our common home as the Creator has charged us to do.

In commemoration of her Feast day on August 8th, a Prayer Petition Box will be placed at the Shrine to St Mary of the Cross MacKillop situated near the Reconcili-ation Room in the church. All petitions will be "collectively included" in the Prayers of Intercession at all weekend Masses celebrated for the month. Your petitions are treated with the utmost confidentiality.

Mary MacKillop Prayer Petition Box

Paul and Jesus conspire together today to present us with tough teaching. Paul

counsels the Romans ‘not to model yourselves on the behaviour of the world...but let your behaviour change, modelled by your new mind’. Jesus rebukes Peter ‘because the way you think is not God’s way but man’s’. The choice is put before us. Do we allow ourselves to take the easy path of con-formity with ‘the way of the world’. Or do we choose the way of Jesus which he warns is a way of the cross? Paul and Jesus make it clear that we do not accomplish this by our own efforts. It is letting go of the life we imagine we have, Jesus says, that we will find true life. And Paul speaks of our minds being renewed and remod-elled from within. The question is whether we will take the risk of ‘letting go and letting God’. Few of us are likely to experience the anguish that the prophet Jeremiah suffered for the sake of the word, but the testimony of his courage echoes down through the ages, even to us. ©2019 Liturgy Brisbane

Thank you to all the people who found the time to spend with Jesus in Adoration last week. Once again there was a tremendous

following and I encourage more people to come and spend time in Jesus presence. The next Friday for adoration is Friday the 4th of September after the 8 am mass. EMBER DAYS mark the beginning of each of the four seasons. In Austral-ia, the Church observes the first Fridays of Autumn and Spring (March and Septem-ber) as special days of prayer and penance, focussing on the environment, the sea-sons and God's providence. What a fitting way to spend some time in prayer in Jesus presence. If you are able to spend an hour with Jesus please contact me. I need to be able to cover every hour in the 24 hours so could you please contact me on my mobile 0415 563 805 or through email [email protected] with your preferred time. If you are unsure of what to do sometimes all you have to do is just be in his presence and rest and he will refresh you. May God be with you all and look forward to speaking with you.
