Sharing Your Time and Talent “The gift you have received, give as a gift.”
These are the words of Jesus, as he was about
to send his disciples on mission to the towns and
villages of Galilee. They were to be generous and
uninhibited in sharing themselves with those they
would meet, precisely because God had been so
generous sharing his love with them.
We, latter-day disciples, are similarly called
to reach out in service to one another. We may not
be convinced that we have much to offer, but God
has placed in each of our lives some talent, some
ability that we are asked to give away for someone
else’s benefit. We must resist the temptation to hide
our giftedness “under a bushel basket,” to bury what
God has entrusted to us, rather than sharing it
unselfishly.
St. Barnabas has Liturgical, Faith Formation,
Parish Outreach and other Social Ministry volunteer
opportunities. Please consider some ways you may
be able to share your time and talent with our parish
community. For further information please call the
rectory at 785-0054.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Will you help us help others? We challenge you to get involved. Be a beacon of
light in a dark sea. You can do something as small as
donating your gently used goods, or something as big
as becoming a Vincentian volunteer; donating your
time, treasure and talents to the cause of abating
poverty on Long Island. Below is a small sample of
ways that you can get involved with the SVDPLI.
You can…
Become a Vincentian Volunteer here at St.
Barnabas.
Donate money, clothes, furniture, household
items, or your used vehicle.
Conduct a food/coat/school supplies drive at your
child(ren’s) school or at work.
Adopt a family for Christmas.
Help collect and assemble Thanksgiving Baskets.
Participate in our Annual Events: the Golf
Classic in the summer or the Friends of the Poor
Walk in the fall.
Join a committee that focuses on helping us get
our message to the broader Long Island
community.
We welcome you and your family to explore
volunteer opportunities with the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul, please call the rectory at 785-0054.

Accessibility for the Disabled Access to the Church for parishioners, visitors and
their guests who use wheelchairs, scooters etc., can
be made by parking in the rear parking lot and
entering the church through the side door, via the
ramp in the back of the building. The side pews on
the Tabernacle side of the church have been
configured to accommodate our disabled
parishioners and their guests.
Tree of Life This memorial to those who have gone before us ~
and especially those who shared in the life of the
parish ~ is such a special place of prayer and
remembrance. Each time we enter the Church we
are reminded of the presence of our loved ones as we
share in the Eucharist or just stop to say a prayer. As
you probably noticed there are leaves available for
parishioners to include the names of their loved one
on this memorial. The donation for each leaf is
$500. For information about placing your loved ones
name on the Tree of Life call the rectory at 785-0054
and ask for Jodie.
Word of Life “Every human person - no matter how vulnerable or
helpless, no matter how young or how old, no matter
how healthy, handicapped or sick, no matter how
useful or productive for society - is a being of
inestimable worth created in the image and likeness
of God. This is the dignity of America...the ultimate
test of her greatness: to respect every human person,
especially the weakest and most defenseless ones,
those as yet unborn.” ~Saint John Paul II,
“Apostolic Journey to the United States and Canada:
Farewell Ceremony, “ September 19, 1987

Hi everyone!
This is the page for St Barnabas Life Teen. I’m
Peggy Harnisch your youth minister!!
Hi Everyone,
How is your Advent going? We are here at the fourth
week and almost to Christmas. In the Gospel today
we hear the story of the Annunciation. Why do we
hear this when it’s so close to Christmas? I think it’s
because of Mary’s yes.
Think about how Mary must have felt. Even
though she was set apart by God, she was a human
being who is being asked something quite
remarkable by an angel. She is a young girl just
starting out in her life. How could she have known
what this meant? And yet she said yes. After asking
only one question she said yes. We know from the
stories of Jesus that her life might be difficult and yet
she said yes.
What about us? We live much more
comfortably than Mary did, with so much more
available to us. Is it also harder to say yes to God?
Sometimes I speak with teens about this. The same
things that enhance our lives can pull us away from
being close to God and make it harder to say yes.
Where do each of us need to say yes to God in our
life? Let’s use this fourth week of Advent to look at
that!
Do you know anyone who might be away
from family and alone at this time of year? Why not
think about visiting or giving them a call. Don’t
forget our food pantry too, it can become depleted
during this time of year!
From everyone in Youth Ministry have a blessed
Christmas!!
Have a blessed week!
