Backing of Choice• Cut (2) 86" x WOF strips for backing.

Completing the BlocksNote: Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching.Each block uses 1 each light and dark square, 3 each light and dark HST, and 8 each light and dark QST.

1. To make 1 block, select 1 each light and dark 41/2" square, 3 each light and dark HST, and 8 each light and dark QST.

2. Sew a light HST to a dark HST to make a triangle unit. Press seam toward the dark triangle. Repeat to make 3 HST units.

3. Sew a light QST to a dark QST on the short sides to make a triangle unit; press seams toward the dark triangle. Repeat to make a total of 8 triangle units.

4. Join 2 triangle units together to make a QST unit. Press seam to 1 side. Repeat to make a total of 4 QST units.

5. Arrange and join the HST units with the QST units and the light and dark squares in rows referring to the block drawing. Press seams away from the QST units. Join the rows to complete 1 block.

6. Repeat all steps with assorted lights and darks to make a total of 20 blocks.

Quilt AssemblyRefer to the quilt diagram throughout the following steps.

1. Arrange and join the blocks in 5 rows of 4 blocks each. Press seams in adjacent rows in opposite directions. Join the rows to complete the quilt center. Press seams in 1 direction.

2. Join the 31/2"-wide ecru eagle print strips on the short ends to make a long strip. Press seams open. Recut the strip into (2) 31/2" x 541/2" strips and (2) 31/2" x 601/2" strips. Sew the longer strips to opposite sides and shorter strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.

3. Join the 61/2"-wide navy floral strips on the short ends to make a long strip. Press seams open. Recut strips into (4) 61/2" x 661/2" strips. Sew strips to opposite long sides and then to the top and bottom of the quilt center to complete the quilt top.

4. Remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the top and bottom edges to make a 74" x 86" backing piece.

5. Layer the top with the backing and a 74" x 86" batting piece. Quilt as desired. When quilting is complete, trim edges even with the top.

6. Prepare wine stripe binding and bind edges using your favorite method to complete the quilt.
