A year ago, Jessica and I were a bundle of nerves, with butterflies in our stomach and going through a wide range of mixed emotions from excitement, to worry, to anticipation to excitement again.We were putting together our first edition of this magazine into which we had poured our hearts, our time and our energy, and we were hoping that it would be well-received.There were endless phone calls, emails and meetings as we discussed every single detail and scrutinized each page. The first time we went to the see the proofs at our printers Bestprint is something we will never forget. Seeing the actual pages of WeddingDay being printed and ready to be put together was an incredible moment. Holding that very first issue in our hands was an equally amazing experience.I remember that we spent the whole day smiling: We had done it!Today as we look back over this past 12 months, we can say with pride and a lot of satisfaction that our ‘baby’ has taken off and is now established in the wedding industry.Readers as well as clients ask for it by name, and this recognition of our efforts was further cemented when the Malta Tourism Authority agreed to distribute WD from its stand at the Dublin and London wedding shows this year. In this, our first anniversary issue, we will be introducing you to the wonderful team of creative people who work on our cover photo shoots and who love WD just as much as we do.We hope you enjoy reading this issue, and we look forward to bringing you more beautiful weddings and innovative ideas in the issues to come, to ensure that WD remains your favourite weddings magazine in Malta.

Setting up a business venture always presents an element of risk; when you set it up with someone else, there can be additional challenges. Luckily, we both have a very grounded, down-to-earth approach which has helped us to be in synch when it comes to important decisions.Publishing a new magazine was a leap of faith, and we did not know where this road would take us. We certainly never expected that we would each discover strengths we did not know we had, and that we would complement each so well.

After brainstorming with the editorial team we come up with a theme. I then develop it in terms of colour, forms and texture, and provide inspiration for the team. I source the items to be used during the shoot, and often make some of them myself. On the day, together with the others, I style and transform the location we are using.

We are extremely proud of our team, who have equally grown in their respective fields and we are pleased that their own businesses have flourished.The positive energy which everyone brings is, we are sure, reflected in the work which is produced through our collective efforts.

This has been an exciting and satisfying year, seeing a ‘baby’ grow and become bigger than any of us would have expected. It is a wonderful experience working with like-minded professionals who are willing to experiment and try new things. Wedding styling is not as well-known as wedding planning, so by taking part in the cover shoot for WeddingDay magazine, it has lent credibility to my job.

My responsibility is to create the floral arrangements to complement the theme. Together with my partner Jim, I have to rely on a very organic mix of creative flair, instinct and inspiration - and of course the views of my WD colleagues - to design and deliver not only the bridal bouquet, but centre pieces, cake decoration and other accessories which help tie the whole concept together.The first year of WD has been amazing fun! To see the concept of the magazine brought to life in such a creative and distinctive way has been a wonderful experience, as has being invited to work with such a dynamic and energetic team of professionals I am now also proud to call my friends. It’s a real privilege to be part of a team of people who share the same passions and values, and the sense of synergy between us all is very real and almost tangible. There is no doubt that WD magazine has not only enhanced Flower Arts’ online reputation and expanded our reach to a much wider, global audience, but has also helped legitimise our position as one of Malta’s best quality floral designers and to showcase our creations to a broader audience.Here’s to many more years of the same!

Daniela Cassar - Make-up artist I am proud to be the official makeup artist of WeddingDay magazine. Once the mood board for the photo shoot is out, I make sure to match the make-up of the model to fit in with the general theme. The first year was a challenge as I did not know what to expect, however I immediately felt comfortable with the rest of the team and we work well together. Since we have a different theme each time, I always feel like I am in a dream while at work. At the end of each photo shoot we are still full of energy and immediately start discussing the next one. I have enjoyed every moment spent as we always manage to have a good laugh together.Joining the WeddingDay team last year was the best decision I have taken in a long time since it gave me a lot of exposure and definitely helped expand my client list. Apart from this, working on different themes for each photo-shoot allowed me to enhance my skills as a make-up artist.

Glorianne Gerada from Cuppycakes Thanks to a great mood board, I try to come up with creative, upmarket ideas which demand thinking outside the box and venturing away from the traditional. The

cake is a focal point at a wedding, but it should not be isolated from the rest of the theme. A cake is not just cake; it needs to capture the personality of the photo shoot and thanks to great team work, my ideas and that of the others merge magically and beautifully every time. This first year has been hectic and satisfying to say the least. It has been quite a unique experience and has given my artistic career a huge leap forward. It has satisfied my thirst for creativity, strengthened myteamwork skills and I’ve made good friends. I feel very lucky I’ve been given this chance at such a young age.Being part of a magazine gives a whole new definition to an idea and it has been a great source of publicity for my art. It was undoubtedly a huge push forward and for this I want to thank our amazing professional team.

Francesca Farrugia WeddingDay magazine has been part of my training to help me go from being a full time mummy and gearing myself back to work within the wedding industry. I am still learning but the experiences in WeddingDay magazine have been great. On the day of the shoot it’s hard work but I love it. My role in the shoot is to help where needed but together with Jim Harvey we are the comedians! Having a laugh makes the work more exciting. I still have a lot to learn but I know that such a great magazine as WeddingDay will help me become more well-known in the wedding industry.

We have gone back to nature with this issue, using as our location the private property of Abigail and Fabian (whose own wedding is featured in this issue). They kindly let us take the whole place over for a few hours, so that our team could transform their little farm into a setting for a quaint country wedding.Model Aidan Corlett, with her freckles and natural red hair represents the free-spirited bride who is not bothered by convention and tradition - she even wears cowboy boots!Relaxed and comfortable in a simple yet elegant flowing gown, Aidan shows how it is possible for a bride to retain a very fresh, natural look, and yet still look poised and lovely.

Soft, pastel colours, yarns of wool, homemade items as well as the quirky objects found on location served as the backdrop for the theme which was created by Elaine from Elegant Impressions.Inspired by vintage items, including an old-fashioned bathtub which was turned into a cake table, the photo shoot evoked echoes of romance in a simpler era. By going to basics and simply using what was at hand, Elaine shows how any venue can be turned into a wed-ding setting with some imagination and a flair for creative, original ideas.A natural arch made by trees was used for the ceremony area and decorated with yarn pom poms and delicate heart decorations. Stacks of hay were turned into

impromptu seating with fluffy cushions for the guests. The area was also decorated with embroidery hoops fixed on a pallet that were found on site.The country theme was continued with the yarn table number and initials.Wedding favours were made using a scented sachet made out of vintage-inspired fabrics and finished off with vintage buttons.Joseph from Flower Arts used English roses, avalanche roses, setaria, papaver and fountain foliage to create the various flower arrangements. The Make-upThe natural setting inspired make-up artist Daniela Cassar to use the browns in her

palette. Bronze, chocolate brown, peach and golden colour shades gave Aidan’s

eyes a soft look with brown eyeliner and mascara to complete the effect.

A light foundation was applied which still allowed Aidan’s freckles to come through,

while a sweet pink blusher gave our model a fresh, pretty look . Rose pink lip gloss

was used for the lips.

The HairAidan had her auburn hair styled into a loose French fish plait by hairdresser

Dorianne Borg. Ideal for thick long hair, this style is fresh and contemporary.

The Table Set-UpA shabby chic table was decorated with flowers, using glass milk bottles as vases. Balls of yarn in

warm hues of lavender, sunshine yellow and peach carry on the country theme. Pretty white plates

were placed on pastel place mats while the crockery was tied with yarn and touched off by a fresh

sprig of rosemary. The table number and initials are home-made, using yarn as well.

The Cake TableGlorianne from Cuppy Cakes came up with a 4 tier hand-piped country chic cake

with sugar paste handmade bird toppers featuring the bride and groom.

The framed work of art is an original piece by Maya Baron, ideal for a wedding gift.

It is always fascinating to find out how couples met. Sometimes it’s through friends, sometimes it’s at a bar or a club, and sometimes the person you fall in love with happens to be right there, at your workplace. “We met at work as we are both employed with the same company. Our first conversation was when neill interviewed me for an internal transfer. About six months later we started dating, and as they say, the rest is history,” says Stephanie.neill proposed in the living room of their new home which they had just moved into only a few weeks before. “After months of planning and designing the ring with a friend of ours who also happens to be a jeweller, he found the right opportunity to hide the ring in a handbag I had asked him to pick up for me from a shop.”When it came to finding the perfect dress, Stephanie made her final decision when she visited Camilleriparismode. “My dress was a Jesus Peiro design, and although I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, I did know what I didn’t want. I didn’t want a dress that was uncomfortable which would make it hard to walk or dance in. As soon as I tried on my

dress, I knew it was the one for me because it was so light, moved easily when I walked, it didn’t have a long train and, most importantly, it was ‘me’. It was soft, flowing and different to most of the gowns we see nowadays.”Sheer fabric covers the neckline and continues into three quarter length sleeves touched with lace giving this dress a timeless elegance. The dropped waist and simple belt enhance the simple lines of the gown. The fabric in light greyish-blue for the custom-made bridesmaids’ dresses also came from Camilleri Paris Mode. The soft layers and flowing skirts complemented the bride’s dress. Stephanie and neill were married at the Lapsi Church in St. Julian’s, which is in the old part of the village, where one can find wonderful cobble stoned streets and authentic town-houses.

“It’s always special having your close friends and family by your side on your special day, but having so many of neill’s friends fly over from the UK just for that event meant so much to us. That, combined with the fact that our baby boy was there, together with my grandparents made the evening that little bit extra special.”

With so many foreign guests coming over for the wed-ding, neill and Stephanie wanted to make travel arrangements as smooth as possible for everyone.“With all the details involved in planning our own wedding, acting as a travel agent was an extra job I wanted to avoid. So we decided that the best solution was to get all the information we could think of that would help our foreign guests and offer it to them in one location. For this we built a website which is still live at http://steffandneill.wordpress.com.

“Here guests could find all the information necessary pertaining to our big day, location, time, dress code as well as maps on how to find the church and reception venue. Besides this, we also included information about how to get around in Malta, car hire, accommoda-tion options as well as recommendations for dining out.

“The website also allowed our guests to post comments and use it in a similar way as you would a forum, so that anyone wishing to share things like accommodation etc could find out about each other online. Furthermore, we included this link in the invitations that we sent out.”If your guests include relatives and friends from over-seas, creating a wedding website such as this is a great, timesaving idea which will also serve as a nice reminder of the wedding itself.

Trinity Fava & Kurt Camilleri Burlo’

Lavish yet IntimateWEDDInGDAY: 18 June 2011

Kurt and Trinity first crossed each other’s path as teenagers in 1998 at a Maths A level private lesson; their relationship later blossomed at University where they both read for the same degree in Architecture. Trinity is a well-known face as she has modelled herself in the past, and has also taken part in singing competitions.She agrees that Maltese men are becoming more creative when it comes to romance and her own fiance was no exception. Kurt proposed while the couple were on a working trip which started off in China. “He kept trying to find the ‘right time’ to propose while we were on this trip. Looking back I think he had many more ‘romantic’ opportunities from the Great Wall of China to romantic dinners on rivers but then he ended up giving me the ring during a pit stop in Dubai, which we visit very often. We were on the terrace, enjoying the first rays of sunrise across the marina and to my surprise he popped the question, I think it was perfect, plus we had honeymoon service on the plane ride back with loads of champagne and chocolates thanks to Emirates.”

The bride’s problem when it came to choosing her dress was that there were many styles which she liked and which all fitted her well. “I was very happy at the end of the day with my choice, and I got many compliments about it, but I think I chose it mainly because it had just arrived, it fit perfectly without the need for any alterations and was extremely comfortable to dance in.” Trinity chose Mateja Camilleri to do her make up. “I had already worked with her on a few fashion shoots and even for the Song for Europe. I like her style because she studied in Italy and they definitely taught her how to apply super thin foundation which covers the face flawlessly like satin. We went for pink shades which are very feminine and because she told me it would bring out the colour of my eyes, but we kept everything very subtle.” Trinity was looking for a venue with a garden when a friend told her about a relatively new venue on the market. “As soon as I went to Tal-Virtu in Rabat, I just fell in love with it, the turf, the chapel, the view and the castle! It was perfect as it ticked many boxes. This place had been abandoned for some time, and my Dad recalled that as a kid I used to go up to the castle pretending to be Rapunzel. As I am very romantic, I knew I had found the right place.

“We choose Catermax as our caterers as we had noticed this new company during an opening of some sort. Their food was special, just like we wanted, and we made sure that the waiters knew every single item coming out from the kitchen.I wanted something simple but impressive for the cake, so I sat down with my ideas with the chef, but what made it really special was that Mr Vassallo himself (co-owner of Catermax) lent us a lovely vintage silver base and the cake just looked so classy”.The beautiful flowers were by David Grech, the Floral Designer whom Trinity met by chance. “When I met him I fell in love with his charismatic character. He told me that he does flowers with passion as it is his hobby, and that clinched it for me! He was very understanding and knew what I wanted immediately. At the same time David was innovative and went out of his way to please me. I must say I loved the way he chose and combined the peonies in my bouquet.” Trinity explains that the colour scheme was dirty pink, which was carried through in the bridesmaids’ dresses, and while there was no theme as such, they wanted something intimate yet grand. “We love adding our personal touch and that’s what made it different I suppose. There was great passion and love in everything we did, and that’s what made it special.”

“I know everyone says this, but I truly believe our wedding day was special, actually magical, like a fairytale. nearly all of the vendors we used are either friends or great acquaintances and so I appreciate that extra effort from all of the people involved.

The attention to detail could be seen everywhere. A vintage custom made wax stamp with ‘T&K’ (from the UK) on the invitation envelopes, the bridesmaids’ dresses designed by Trinity herself and made by dressmaker Tessie Spiteri, and the use of small honey jars as souvenirs which suited the natural surroundings of the venue.“Plus, everyone who knows us knows how we love calling each other ‘honey’”, adds Trinity with a laugh.Each jar was dressed up with beautiful bows and twigs while they decorated the venue with lights and honeycombs paper lanterns. The bride took the trouble of placing a small basket in the female bathroom with toiletries and perfumes, while her brother designed a ‘tree’ which was used as a guest book, where everyone would stamp a ‘leaf’ and leave their comments.The guests were entertained by Flamenco dancers (among them, one of Kurt’s sisters) as the caterers cooked paella and Spanish tapas.

“The best man’s speech proved to be a great surprise for me as the ushers gave great interpretations with wigs depicting our journey as girlfriend and boyfriend.”

“We are both perfectionists, and being architects and designers with an eye for detail, everything had our personal touch.”

Music was provided by Sue Wadge and her band booked through the excellent entertainment company Tunin’ Entertainment, and followed by DJ Tony Tony for the after party. To make it even more personal, Trinity sang to Kurt before their first dance.“Another thing which made the wedding ultra special were the guests. We had a lavish yet intimate wedding, inviting the people we truly wanted to share the moment with and no one else, keeping the average age young too. Thus the wedding was fun for us and them too. We also kept the guests surprised all the time with the dancing, the singing, the food and moving them into specific areas – so we kept them occupied that’s for sure!” The couple spent their honeymoon in Indonesia, stopping on the way in Bangkok and back through Dubai.

When you only have four months to plan a wedding in a foreign country you have never visited, and you are doing it from the other side of the world, you definitely need a wedding planner. Malcolm and Alison knew they made the right choice when they approached Anna Spiteri Borg and her husband Marvik who run a company called Malta Event Design. They immediately took over the details, starting with the permits and legalities required for a seaside wedding ceremony.“It was a challenge to keep within the time frame to ensure that it would be a legally binding wedding,” Anna admits. “We needed legal documents from Australia while the couple where still residing in the UK so keeping to deadlines was imperative.” But first, how did these two meet? Malcolm and Alison have known each other since they were children growing up in the same town in Central Queensland, Australia. They dated for a couple of months during their first year of university, Alison then moved to another city and they lost touch.

On a beautiful, clear spring evening in May, Malcolm took me to my favourite lookout that overlooked the village we lived in, and proposed.” Alison took time off work to join Malcolm in the UK for four months and started doing research on wedding destinations.“We wanted somewhere hot and sunny like Australia! I came across a wedding photographer’s blog from Malta and fell in love with the scenes of a wedding at Dwejra (featured in Wedding Day’s July issue). Malcolm agreed that we had found the perfect place, a date was chosen, and after some more research I contacted the wonderful Anna and Marvik to begin planning and to present us with the best options.”

“Fast forward sixteen years to 2011 and through the wonders of Facebook, we got back in touch. By then Malcolm was living in the UK and I was living in Canberra, Australia. After spending a couple of months chatting over the Internet we decided to holiday together in Thailand. We saw each other for a few days in Australia over Christmas and new Year’s while Malcolm was in Australia. By the time Malcolm was heading back to the UK, we knew that we were still in love and wanted to be together forever,” says Alison.They didn’t actually become officially engaged until 18 days before the wedding as they were waiting for Alison’s ring to arrive. “We had commissioned it from a jeweller in Western Australia who specializes

Apart from wanting to get married at Dwejra, the couple really hadn’t thought of much else. They just wished for a very personal and intimate wedding and Anna made sure their wish came true by putting together the kind of set-up and design they had dreamt of. “After we chose the kind of music, cake and menu we wanted, our wedding planners provided us with just the right suppliers who exceeded our expectations.” Alison didn’t want a traditional long white dress but was looking for something more along the lines of a 1950s tea dress. “My best friend travelled to Sydney to meet me for a girls’ weekend and to help me make a decision. In the end, it was the second dress that I had tried on, by Australian designer Alannah Hill, that I eventually chose. To go with my dress, I custom designed a handmade jewelled sash from Twisted Crystals on Etsy. I also custom designed and had handmade two pairs of shoes from Australian online company Shoes of Prey - four and half inch platform peep toes in white silk with light pink glitter; and a more practical pair of flip-flops in hot pink snakeskin.” Alison didn’t really have a theme in mind: “Anna knew that I wanted something elegant and stylish but still casual. On the day, the way Anna and Marvik had set up the location at Dwerja was simply beautiful and the table setting that Anna made for us at the restaurant was stunning.

“I had no idea what it would look like or what she was plan-ning so on the day it was an absolute surprise and I couldn’t have been more pleased. We didn’t even see each other all dressed up until the very last minute.”Opting for a small wedding with very few close friends does not mean one has to forego any of the excitement usually associated with big weddings. “The couple agreed not to visit the ceremony venue beforehand, but left it up to me to design it according to their personal tastes in order to retain the element of surprise. It was a priority to give the party privacy even though we did not have full exclusivity at the reception venue,” Anna points out. “Looking back, what we both love about our wedding day is how much fun we had, but also how the day was about us and the commitment we were pledging to each other,” says the couple. “We weren’t stressed and thanks to Anna and Marvik, they ensured that we didn’t have to worry about anything so that our day would be perfect.” Unfortunately neither of their parents were able to join them for the wedding and the short notice meant that there were only four guests. “One of my closest childhood friends flew in from Australia, and Malcolm also had one of his high school mates from Australia fly in. Two of Malcolm’s friends from the UK also joined us.”

“But what made it even more special was that everyone who was there, from the videographer, photographer, the planner, the Mayor Anthony Formosa who married us, our musicians and chauffeur joined us in the celebrations of cutting the cake and drinking champagne. Everyone was so friendly which made us able to relax and enjoy our day.We fell in love with Gozo - the people, the way of life and we will most probably be back to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.”

Come Rain or Shine...Siobhon Poynton & Paul McDonald | 23.05.2012

This Irish couple met in a bar in Dublin over 12 years ago but Paul asked Siobhon to marry him while they were in Malta in April 2011. “We had chosen Malta as the place we wanted to get married, because after spending a holiday here a few years ago, we had fallen in love with the island.”In many ways this wedding was traditional, but for foreign guests, the very fact that they are coming to Malta for a destination wedding is always considered rather “exotic”. Siobhon and Paul decided on the Carmelite Church in Mdina for their wedding ceremony. “The church is beautiful and it was a perfect size for our 60 guests (and a few tourists).” A wedding in Mdina always causes a stir among visitors who are delighted to come across such an event as they are touring the Silent City. “Our guests loved Mdina and it was lovely having the reception right by the sea. As we had chosen beautiful venues for both our ceremony and reception we felt a theme wasn’t necessary, so apart from lots of flowers, we let our venues do the talking.”

With so many guests coming over to Malta, they decided to stay in a lovely, large villa with a pool in Madliena. Everyone got ready at the villa, which led to a great deal of anticipation and excitement among the bridal party. Special towelling bathrobes were even brought over for the occasion allowing the bride and her bridesmaids to remain comfortable as their hair and make-up was done.Siobhon bought her ivory-coloured dress made by British designer Sassi Holford, from Sharon Hoey in Dublin “I didn’t have any idea what I wanted when I started looking, I had tried on a few dresses before this one but as soon as I tried it on I knew it was perfect for me.”As it is made out of vintage lace, she matched it with bridal shoes, also made of lace.With her blonde hair pulled back into a simple chignon and make-up which brought out her large eyes, Siobhon was ready to enjoy her special day. The bridesmaids wore lavender, a colour which was also used in the bouquets.

“We held our wedding reception at The Edge in the Radisson Blu in St. Julian’s. We really wanted an outdoor venue by the sea and loved the Edge, because even though it is part of the hotel it is private and secluded. “We dealt with Victoria Hancock from the Radisson. Victoria helped us to plan our day, and since we were doing everything from Ireland she also recommended some suppliers to us. She was efficient, professional and made planning our wedding from abroad a really pleasant experience.”Unfortunately, the weather almost ruined their reception but thanks to the professionalism of the staff, everything went as planned.“On the day of the wedding, on arrival at The Edge, we were met with an unexpected heavy downpour of rain. The whole venue was drenched (in addition to most of the guests) even though the rain only lasted 10 minutes. However it didn’t dampen our day at all – in fact we were told it’s good luck to have rain on your wedding day. Victoria and the staff at The Edge then reset the whole venue with new tables, chairs and everything else so that we could continue with our reception. We couldn’t believe how quickly and efficiently they turned the venue around. “

The cake was also made by the hotel, “we asked for something simple as a friend had made us a cake topper of myself, Paul and our son Ryan so we wanted that to stand out. We had a tier of chocolate biscuit and a fruit cake tier which everybody enjoyed.”The wedding of Siobhon and Paul was made even more special because of a certain very important guest. “Having our 3-year-old son there to share our day with us meant so much. We enjoyed every minute of our day, and couldn’t stop smiling from start to finish.”Ryan was probably even more excited than the bride and groom as he posed for photos and got caught up in the atmosphere of the day.

Abigail “fell in love” with Fabian’s parents, even before she knew Fabian existed. They ran the youth group which she attended as a young girl and when she discovered that Fabian was their son, she felt the three year age gap between them was too wide. It was only when Abigail was 17 and Fabian was 20 and they met by chance at a beach party that the sparks started to fly.

“I’m quite the princess so Fabian had really no choice but to propose in the traditional way,” Abigail it admits. “We went to Belgium for a techno party with friends and during a day trip to Antwerp, the diamond centre, he bought the ring. Then we went on a day trip to Salzburg on our own, he took me up on a deserted hill with breathtaking views, he got down on one knee and proposed.

I’m very lucky because Fabian is very romantic - even when we were really young and we were just friends he used to say that if he went out with me he would one day marry me.”The style of this wedding was simple, elegant and romantic with touches of lace which the bride tried to incorporate into her theme as much as possible. The colour scheme was ivory, gold and burgundy.

“I had tried on a lot of dresses but when I tried this one I just knew it was it. I looked good in it and it had all I wanted: a heart-shaped neckline, a nice light ivory colour, beautiful lace, and a mermaid shape. It was different to the traditional dresses; it was the most beautiful dress ever and the right dress for me.”

Abigail decided to wear her long, red hair down in a natural style set off by a delicate tiara. Her mid-length veil was pinned to the back of her hair.

“We had our reception venue at Castello dei Baroni and for our catering we chose Island Caterers who gave us a free night at the Golden Sands as part of the package, which we really appreciated. Although we changed the menu quite a bit, they were very reasonable and accommodating. Everyone told us how great the food was, so it was a good choice.”The bride spent a lot of time on finding the right cake, going through countless magazines and websites to find a design she liked. She finally settled on a plain ivory cake decorated with white lace and gold ribbon which she bought herself.

Abigail describes how she used to look at a lot of magazines to get ideas about different things she could include in her own wedding. “One idea I borrowed from a magazine was buying pretty frames in which I put pictures of our parents and grandparents on their wedding day. It looked very sweet, the guests found it interesting and our parents and grandparents were very proud that we had their pictures on the wedding table.”Abigail and Fabian’s wedding was one big family celebration filled with special, touching moments especially as it brought everyone closer. “It was nice to have all those people that loved us and we loved come together and join us to celebrate our union together.”

The coupe made their own honeymoon arrangements and flew to Argentina where they had the time of their lives.

Diandra Mattei trained at the AOFM academy in London, which does make-up for TV shows such as Britain’s next Top Model. This is where she learned to use the air brush technique for applying foundation. “With Daphne’s pale skin I’m using the lightest foundation possible. The make up lasts much longer with this technique and gives you that very smooth effect which celebrities use for the red carpet. I can keep going down to her neck because the foundation doesn’t transfer onto the dress.” Diandra first defined the eyebrows then used pink and mauve shadow to bring out Daphne’s green eyes, and finally black eyeliner and mascara. She kept the blusher to a light shade so that it does not look fake. “Daphne has nice features and strong lips which I’ve kept natural as the focus is on the eyes.”

We only let Daphne see the results after hair and make-up were done and she had slipped into her dress. The event started in the main building where a tunnel was created through which guests had to pass, then they had pre-dinner champagne served in the upper gardens with a lovely harpist. Dinner was served in the lower gardens, and then guests returned to the grand marquee for Belgian chocolates, coffee and liquors. This was followed by a private event in the main building which was totally transformed into a beautiful, modern and chic lounge.
