Among all the great stories was one I still think of often. During the 1940s, the deacons led the weekly Bible study in Wednesday Prayer Meeting. One week it had snowed much of the afternoon so only three people showed up, including Jimmy Jones--the deacon who was to lead the study. Jack Riley, one of the other two and the man who told me the story, said that with a congregation of two, Jimmy Jones stood up and proceeded to preach as if to crowd of thousands. Of all that happened through those years in the church, what stayed with Mr. Riley was the message he heard that night and the man who served faithfully and shared it even when only two other people showed up. In the Temple 2,000 years ago, a widow who thought no one was looking dropped in two mites. Jesus was watching, and those two mites have changed more lives in the last 2,000 years than every other Temple offering that week combined. Be faithful. You may not think anyone else knows or that it’s making any difference, but Jesus is watching—and you never know how He might use it. This Sunday morning we will have a very special guest. Bro. Sam Taylor of the Baptist Convention of New England will be here to preach the Word, share what the Lord is doing in the Boston area, and set the stage for our mission trip this July. On Sunday night, we’ll focus on James 4: 11 and why we should die to the sin of judging people and then passing around our critical judgments. Don’t miss meeting the Lord with His people in His house on His day! Bro. Dean This Sunday: Sam Taylor in Morning Worship Sam is the Boston Area Coordinator for the Baptist Convention of New England, and the man who has helped us develop relationships and missions possibilities with churches in Boston. Prior to assuming his current position, Sam served the pastor of Kiev Baptist Church while an IMB missionary in the Ukraine. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear Sam bring our Sunday morning message!

Years ago I interviewed several of the older, long-time members for

the 75th anniversary history of my home church in Joelton. Among all

the great stories was one I still think of often. During the 1940s, the

deacons led the weekly Bible study in Wednesday Prayer Meeting. One

week it had snowed much of the afternoon so only three people

showed up, including Jimmy Jones--the deacon who was to lead the

study. Jack Riley, one of the other two and the man who told me the story, said that with a

congregation of two, Jimmy Jones stood up and proceeded to preach as if to crowd of thousands.

Of all that happened through those years in the church, what stayed with Mr. Riley was the

message he heard that night and the man who served faithfully and shared it even when only

two other people showed up. In the Temple 2,000 years ago, a widow who thought no one was

looking dropped in two mites. Jesus was watching, and those two mites have changed more lives

in the last 2,000 years than every other Temple offering that week combined. Be faithful. You

may not think anyone else knows or that it’s making any difference, but Jesus is watching—and

you never know how He might use it.

This Sunday morning we will have a very special guest. Bro. Sam Taylor of the Baptist Convention

of New England will be here to preach the Word, share what the Lord is doing in the Boston area,

and set the stage for our mission trip this July. On Sunday night, we’ll focus on James 4: 11 and

why we should die to the sin of judging people and then passing around our critical judgments.

CHURCH LIBRARY RESOURCE OF THE WEEK

When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy,

or to be a gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to

suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waorani people in

Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the Gospel. Her second

husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned

the deepest lessons about God. Why doesn’t God do something about suffering?

He has, He did, and He will.

Reading & Praying through God’s Word in 2020

One thing that liberates your daily Bible reading: realizing every day doesn’t have to be this

big moment of inspiration. Sometimes that happens. But what’s more important is the rhythm of

reading and rereading the Scripture. Over a lifetime, this ritual can shape the soul.
