[Tools, Tips & Tutorials] Installing the MIUI 5/6/7 ROM via fastboot in
OS X
Note: works for all Qualcomm-based Mi phones and some MTK-based
models. All MTK-based phones that don't have fastboot rom here:http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
are not supported by this guide.
Hi, guys!
In continuation of my previous thread, this one explains how to use your Mac/MacBook to update your
Mi phone via fastboot. The difference between flashing in Windows or OS X is that there is no easy-to-
use program like MiFlash in OS X, but fortunately, in order to flash your Mi phone, you would need
only some basic command line skils and adb/fastboot for OS X.
So, here's what you should do:
1. Go to this thread, download and install the adb/fastboot package for OS X. The whole procedure
won't work without it !!!
2. Download the fastboot ROM for your Mi phone and place it on your desktop. Double-click on it and
Archive Utility will extract the file on the desktop, so you'll get a folder, named something like this:
cancro_global_images_V7.0.5.0.KXDMICI_20151016.0000.3_4.4_global.
3. Click on Launchpad (on the OS X dock), open the Other group and click on Terminal.
4. Power-off your phone and start it in fastboot mode (Power+VolDown), then connect it to your
Mac/MacBook.
5. (optional) You may check for your phone by executing the following command in Terminal:
1. fastboot devices
Copy the Code
6. In order to use the fastboot scripts, you should go to the folder. For that purpose, execute the
following command (the folder name may be different in your case, the example below is for cancro):
1. cd ~/Desktop/cancro_global_images_V7.0.5.0.KXDMICI_20151016.0000.3_4.4_global
Copy the Code
Quick tip: you don't need to write the whole folder name, just type cd ~/Desktop/cancro, then pressthe Tab key and Terminal will append the folder name automatically.
7. Once inside, you need to make the scripts (all the files with .sh extension) executable. Execute the
following command:
1. chmod +x ./*.sh
Copy the Code
8. Now, the scripts are ready to use. In order to start the process, issue one of the following commands:
1. ./flash_all.sh

Copy the Code
or
1. ./flash_all_except_storage.sh
Copy the Code
or
1. ./flash_all_except_data_storage.sh
Copy the Code
Note: don't forget the "./" before the script names, without that you'll get a message about unknown
command.
When you start any of the scripts, you'll see the fastboot messages, flowing through the Terminal
window. Once the script has done its work, the phone will restart itself automatically.
Important: it's highly recommended to transfer all
your important data (pictures, music, contacts, etc.)
before you go through the fastboot procedure,
especially when the flash_all.sh script is going to be
used !!!
