ProfilesIt gives me great pleasure to present the Summer Placement Brochure “Flair 2010” of the Post

Graduate Programme. TAPMI has been a pioneer in the field of management education. The

twenty sixth batch of PGDM students graduated from the institute in April 2010. It was indeed a

proud moment for us since the batch of 2010 with 172 students was the largest batch to graduate

from the institute since its 27 year old existence. Many of you had the opportunity to interact with

TAPMI students during the previous year’s placement process or for summer placements. The

institute would like to thank you for your support in securing 100% summer and final placements

for our 300 students in the year 2009-10.

TAPMI’s PGDM course is a 2-year, full time, residential programme. The admissions for the

course begin in the month of December, once the Common Admission Test is complete. Apart

from the CAT scores, the TAPMI selection procedure is an elaborate one with a written round,

group discussion and a personal interview. There are also different weightage to a student’s work

experience, his graduate background among other details. This elaborate and rigorous selection

procedure ensures that the students entering this institute are of the highest calibre. This fact has

been proven from the feedback which we have received from the various faculty members who

believe that these students would make TAPMI proud.

Mahatma Gandhi once said “An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching”. TAPMI

believes in the fact that students need to have a practical understanding of how management is

practiced in organizations to reinforce their classroom learning through cases and examples. In

this regard, TAPMI has its very own Management-in-Practice or summer placement programme

which gives every student an opportunity to work for organizations during the course of their

2-year study at TAPMI.

I belive that these students, during their 8 weeks stay, would bring in great value to your

organization through their fresh perspectives of management. I welcome you to come and interact

with them and decide for yourselves. I am sure you would be extremely happy with the quality of

the participants.

The T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) is located in the international university town of Manipal (Karnataka). It is among the leading management institutes in India, and is reputed for its academic rigor and faculty-student interaction. Founded in 1980 by the visionary, Late Shri T. A. Pai, TAPMI’s mission is to provide much needed impetus to the task of building professional management capability in the country. In the process, it has also played a role in strengthening the existing educational and health infrastructure of Manipal.

The components of the MIP :

Management - in - PracticeInternships at TAPMI are not merely a means of exposing students to the current practices in the industry. MIP is an innovative program developed by TAPMI to enhance the faculty-student-industry interaction. The MIP program is designed to enable the students of TAPMI to spend quality time in the industry and also to convert their learning into teaching material for further reference. The Association of Indian Management Schools presented this programme the ‘Best Innovation in Management Education Award’.

Profiles

OutboundThis week long programme, conducted by a specialized

agency, requires students to go through a series of activities

in a challenging environment where even the simplest tasks

require planning, leadership, communication and team-work.

After going through this experience, students reflect on their

learning and experiment with new behaviours. Students are

expected to make sense out of uncertainty with the limited

resources available to them and to realize the importance

of team work, communication, physical fitness. They also

develop sensitivity towards the environment.

NGO ProjectThe NGO Project is an important component of TAPMI’s Post

Graduate Programme. This programme enables students

to sensitize themselves to the issues of social development

and management by experiential learning. Working with

and contributing to the management of NGOs, the students

develop new perspectives with respect to the role of business

in society.

Co curricular Activities AtharvaAtharva, the Annual International Management festival of

TAPMI, attracts the finest talent from business schools as

well as from the corporate world. It tests the skill, knowledge,

acumen, strength and perseverance of participants with

numerous management games and a plethora of informal

events that keep the campus abuzz for three days and nights.

Pre Atharva events include online games and quizzes which

attract thousands of participants from across the country.

Atharva hosts a range of large scale popular events which

include one of the biggest quizzing competitions in India –

Quiz on the Beach held at Kaup Beach, a corporate debate–

Polemic and a host of other management games. Last year,

Quiz on the Beach had participants from Yahoo, KPMG,

Cognizant and Dell. Polemic was moderated by well known

brand expert, Mr. Harish Bijoor. The main area of focus was

the telecom sector in India.

Atharva has also gone international and achieved new

heights by including international participation from two

reputed international colleges like Sheffield Hallam, UK and

IMT, Dubai.

BrandScanBrandScan is a unique market research fair conducted by the students of TAPMI. In the 17 years of its glorious existence, BrandScan has completed 190 projects for various clients, making it the largest market research fair by a B- school in India. BrandScan has a unique way of eliciting unbiased and natural responses through the use of disguised games. It boasts of a clientele consisting of blue-chip companies from various domains ranging from FMCG, consumer electronics to the automobile industry. Professional guidance and consultations from reputed research agencies like TNS, Market Insight, AC Nielsen, etc has helped BrandScan develop a systematic three-phase research approach.Last year BrandScan undertook projects from Hero Honda, Durex, Wildcraft, Wildstone, Perfetti Van Melle, Parle, Amul, Fastrack, Shaadi.com, Wonder La, The Week, Denver and Campus Fever.

DishaIn the face of the economic downturn, human resource management is perhaps one of the most affected portals of business and is facing a new set of challenges. With these potent thoughts T. A. Pai Management Institute conducts its annual HR conclave “DISHA”. The theme of DISHA this year is “Human Resource Management – Recession and Beyond”. Being one of the very few annual HR conclaves held by any B-School in the country, DISHA has become a forum where industry experience meets academic vigour and creates a whole new learning experience. Senior corporate dignitaries from India’s top notch companies grace the scenic campus of the institute to discuss, debate and reflect on various aspects of Human Resource Management. Last year, the top speakers at Disha included, Mr. Nitish Mohanty, Senior VP –HR of the Manipal Group, Mr. Raghavendra, VP-HR of Infosys and Dr. Pallob Bandopadhyay, VP-HR of Perot Systems among others.
