Attendance Log Please don’t forget to sign-in on the attendance log located at the end of your pew.

Flowers

The flowers on our Chancel this morning are given to the glory of God in loving memory of Ada Johnson Savary from her children.

Worship Flowers for 2020 This year’s signup booklet for 2020 Worship Flowers is now available at the Ask Me Desk for people interested in reserving a specific date for honoring their loved ones. Worship flowers are $35, and please indicate whether you are going to pick them up or whether you want them donated to someone in the hospital or an assisted living facility.

2020 Per Capita

Every church has apportioned a share of the presbytery, the synod, and the General Assembly for ecclesiastical purposes. This year’s apportionment is based on church membership for 2019. The amount varies with the needs of the presbytery, synod, and General Assembly, and is a regular expense payable by this church at the spring meeting of presbytery. The amount to be paid this year per communicant member is $32.20 per person. We would appreciate it if you could round this off to $35 per person to help cover for those who cannot afford this. There is a blue envelope in the pews or at the “Ask Me Desk” for this purpose. Our total per capita assessment for 2020 is approximately $13,104. Thank you for your contribution!

Welcome

Especially to those who may be worshiping with us for the first time. We pray that you experience Christ’s presence in our midst, and that it will sustain you in the week ahead. We hope you will consider making First Presbyterian Church your church home in Inverness. Large Print Bulletins and Hearing Assistance Units are available from an Usher. A Nursery is provided during the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services. The Narthex can be used as a cry room. Please complete the Ritual of Friendship (navy blue attendance folder) with your address and phone number so we may contact you personally following the service.

Silence Your Cell Phone As a courtesy to others, please silence your cell phone during all worship services.

Donations will be welcomed by the Scouts with gratitude and appreciation.

Women of Faith Circle - February 4 Tuesday, February 4, Women of Faith Circle meets at 11:00 a.m. in the library. DVD lesson is with Luci Swindoll, “Grace Will Lead Me Home.” Should you have any questions, please call Laura Zurawski at 352-250-1593.

Eat and Greet - February 5 Come for a potluck supper on Wednesday, February 5, at 6:00 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall. Special guests will be Rob and Beth Arms from Crystal River. They are mission trip coordinators for New Missions of Orlando and will be leading our group on their mission trip to the Dominican Republic in March. You’re going to eat supper that evening, so why not with your church family? See you then!

Pancakes and More on Saturday - February 8 The pancake breakfast next Saturday, February 8, is a project of our Outreach Committee, whose purpose is to make our church more visible in the community. You can help by giving the two tickets you have in your bulletin today to a stranger or a neighbor with a personal invitation. Of course, come yourself!! (More tickets are at the Ask Me Desk!) Music, fellowship, and a couple of door prizes are extras that will be available.

#19 - February 8

Saturday, February 8, is the date for our 19th annual hayride, bovine encounter, potluck supper, campfire, and s’mores at the Mattoxes’ place. Time is 3:30-7:00 p.m. Address is 10781 E. Nottingham Drive, Inverness, only 2 left turns past the church. Distance is 5.9 miles with the last half mile a dirt road. The two newest calves, Dave and Peggy, are eager to meet everyone. Call Frank or Audrey at 341-2484 to sign up or see them in church. The inclement weather date would be the next day, Sunday, February 9. It’ll be a “hee-haw” event!

Tables for Six, Valentine’s Day - February 14, 2020

The Tables for Six committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Mickey and Linda Cridland for hosting the Christmas event in their home. It was an awesome event with so many tasty appetizers and sweet desserts and, of course, fellowship with the members of the congregation.

Next on the agenda is Valentine’s Day Tables for Six. The dinner hosts and hostesses will be notified of their attending guests, and accompanying dish assignments can be made.

It is never too late to join in this time of fellowship and fun. What a great opportunity to meet new members and reacquaint with the old. Call Carol Kircoaf at 305-396-6212 or Bonnie Purcell at 352-746-4476. If you are not familiar with the “dinner outline,” they will be happy to provide that information.

Prayer Garden Memorial Bricks This is a wonderful opportunity to have a loved one’s name engraved into a brick as a permanent remembrance for everyone to enjoy. The brick can be engraved with In Memory of or In Honor of or just with a name. Extra request forms may be picked up at the Ask Me Information desk in the Narthex or at the church office. The cost of the brick with engraving is $50 each. The letters will be in black and the bricks are brown in color. Please return the request form to the church office and mark on your check made payable to First Presbyterian Church, “Memorial Brick” in the memo section. The monies generated from the sale of the bricks will be used for the maintenance and improvements of the garden. For further information on Prayer Garden Memorial Bricks, please contact Carol Kircoaf at (305) 396-6212, or contact the church office at (352) 637-0770.

Our Tree of Life Our beautiful Tree of Life, displayed on the wall in our Narthex, is composed of many leaves, and it grows through donations to our Tree of Life Fund. The fund was established for the purpose to earmark donations for unexpected near-term repairs in our church facilities and repair or replacement of our equipment. As Christians, many of us are desirous of making a bequest to the church. Some just feel the need to give, while others wish to commemorate an event in their lives or to honor loved ones. These leaves represent a beautiful, tangible, and lasting way to express this need. Members or friends of the church may purchase a leaf for $300, which may be paid in $100 increments. Upon receipt of the total, the leaf will be engraved with the sentiment of the donor’s choice and placed on the tree. For further information on our Tree of Life, please contact Carol Kircoaf at (305) 396-6212, or contact the church office at (352) 637-0770.

Men’s Corner There is a thing called oops theology, and a good example of it was brought to my attention by Nancy when she pointed out to me that in last week’s thank you for Trash and Treasure, I forgot her husband and our chef George Poormon. Oops, please forgive me. I wish I could come up with a good excuse, but I can’t! My apologies, George and Nancy.

Sincerely, Dr. Dennis Bennett

Today is The Four Chaplains Day in our nation. Join us today in our sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. to honor The Four Brave Chaplains who died so others could live. Rev. Jim Capps will bring a brief message.

And don’t forget our sponsored Bible Study of the Book of James on Wednesday, February 5, at 3:00 p.m. in the library. It will be facilitated by Dr. Dennis Bennett.

The next Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will be on Thursday, February 6, at 8:00 a.m. in our Fellowship Hall.

Monthly Production of Pres-By-Lines to Resume

Effective March 1, we will begin producing the Pres-By-Lines on a monthly basis rather than a quarterly basis. Items for the March issue should be in the hands of the office staff by February 15 to ensure they are included. John Engberg will be the editor of future Pres-By-Lines publications.

Final Report for Citrus County S.A. 2019 Kettle Campaign

The Citrus County Salvation Army reported that the 2019 Kettle campaign at the Highland Winn-Dixie resulted in a net collection of $10,436.47 from November 23 to December 24, 2019. These funds will be used to help support the Army’s Citrus County programs in 2020. The First Presbyterian Church of Inverness supplied 255 hours of bell ringing, averaging collections of $45.70 per hour. The Army will be hosting a “Thank You” breakfast on February 28, 2020 for all volunteers involved. We hope FPCI can have a significant attendance for this show of appreciation to the people providing help for those in need. A final confirmation for this date, time, and place will be forthcoming as verification is received from Salvation Army.

Blankets and Towels Needed

It’s cold out there - Brrrr! Blankets are needed more than ever! There are many homeless families, most of whom have young children. There is also a shortage among veterans. Agencies in the county are working to help these people. Child and Family Service is one of the agencies involved in helping. The blankets and towels we contribute go to this organization. Both new and used items in good condition are accepted. You may bring them to the church office, and they will be taken to that location. Look for blankets in big box stores and some dollar stores.

Thank you so much. Sincerely, Judy Foss

From the Maintenance Department As you might know, we are in the middle of the 2020 flu season. According to the CDC, it’s a particularly bad flu season. Turn on the evening news and see what else has popped up in the virus world. This year it looks to be the coronavirus, which can mimic the flu with symptoms such as a headache, fever, cough, and shortness of breath among other complications. You can find good information on the CDC’s website www.cdc.gov/coronavirus. We want to remind you, we have hand sanitizers throughout the church. We also use hospital-grade sanitizers when cleaning, as well as a full-building fog sanitizer that is done weekly. Our kitchen crew follows food and safety standards and guidelines that impress this particular germaphobe greatly. We want you to be happy and healthy for the 2020 season as it’s going to be a busy year. A fist bump might be a better alternative to a handshake. If you’re sick, staying home and contacting your doctor is the best thing to help curb the spread of viruses. Just thought you might want to know a little behind the curtain details that go on here at our beautiful house of worship!

God Bless You All, Danny Sullivan, Facility Manager

Golfers

Did you know that there is a church golf league at Citrus Hills Golf & Country Club, and First Presbyterian Church has a team scheduled every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. If anyone is interested you can play 9 holes for $17. If you have any questions, please call Bob Waldron at 352-697-2096 or Frank Mattox at 352-341-2484.

Dr. Bennett’s Bible Study on James Rev. Dr. Dennis Bennett’s Bible Study on the Book of James will be on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. from January 22 to February 19. This Bible Study will be in our Conference Room.

Thursdays Are Back! The Thursday Bible Study group has completed their study of the Gospel of Mark, 27 sessions. It was an intense overview of Jesus’ 3 years of ministry. What’s next? Come and see – 3:30 p.m. every Thursday in the church library. And, vote for your favorite homemade cookie! A small group is the best way to “feel Connected” to your church family. See you Thursday?

Scripture Searchers Bible Study Scripture Searchers adult Bible Study begins an investigation of the Apostle Paul. What is his biological background? Why did he tirelessly persecute Christians? Why was he on the road to Damascus? How many churches did he start? How many times was he imprisoned? How much of the Bible did he write? What specific cultural issues of his day make some of his writing challenging to interpret? What do the answers to these questions mean for us? Our class meets in the library each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. No prior experience required. Come when you can, leave when you must. The class is facilitated by Jeanie Roberts.
