message from the managerSOON YOU WILL BE ASKED TO MAKE AN IMPORTANT DECISION. IT MAY BE, INfact, the most important decision that has ever been made with regard to the future of BocaPointe Country Club and ultimately, the entire community at Boca Pointe.

That decision is whether or not the Club will ask the Community Association to bring ourCommunity Membership Plan to all Boca Pointe homeowners for a vote.

When you invested in Boca Pointe, you had many options of country club communitiesfrom which to choose. You recognized, however, that Boca Pointe offers an outstandingproperty and unsurpassed country club lifestyle at a value that is unmatched at other clubs.

With the loss of members over the past few years it has become apparent that we muststabilize and increase club membership which will have a positive effect on dues and potentialassessments. This will allow us to remain a great club within a community that we can all be proud of.

It would be very unwise to try to separate the brand of the Boca Pointe community from the brand of Boca PointeCountry Club. The two are tightly interdependent. Even those of us that do not own property along the golf course ornear the clubhouse are tightly aligned to the Boca Pointe brand, and that brand cannot be separated from the Club.

As a homeowner at Boca Pointe since 1987 I cannot stress enough my belief that the Boca Pointe “brand” has adirect impact on all of our real estate values. I also believe that once we are successful in achieving CommunityMembership we will be more attractive to future homeowners who will have both the incentive and the means to support the maintenance of the villages, and the community as a whole.

Just look at the country clubs in our area that we all think of as desirable: Boca West, Addison Reserve, Polo Club, Woodfield Country Club, Broken Sound and Mizner Country Club, to name just a few. All of these clubs have Community Membership. In fact, Boca West, Broken Sound and Woodfield each voted in favor of CommunityMembership even though club membership was optional. They can’t all be wrong. Regardless of the number of memberstheir communities had when Community Membership votes were taken, they all faced the same issues relative to the valueand salability of their homes. The ones that have not achieved Community Membership – such as Boca Lago, Woodmontand Boca Greens – have issues our community must avoid.

In the past, many of the new homeowners moving in to Boca Pointe have chosen not to join the Club. It isreasonable to ask if we would be cutting off too large a segment of the home buying market if we were to implementCommunity Membership. What has happened at other clubs in our area who have implemented Community Membershipis documented in the Real Estate Values Study conducted by MetroStudy. While past history is never a guarantee of futureresults the evidence clearly indicates that, real estate values and, just as importantly, the volume of sales do not declineafter Community Membership is implemented. At the communities listed in the MetroStudy Report both prices and salesvolume are at the approximate pace that existed before the vote for Community Membership. Real estate values reflect the real estate market and not necessarily the requirements of Community Membership.

Community Membership will ensure that we continue to remain attractive to homeowners who have both theincentive and the economic means to support the maintenance of the community to the level that we have come toexpect.

I believe that a vote for Community Membership is not only a vote for the future of Boca Pointe Country Club, butalso a vote for community as a whole.

Sincerely,

Paul VolinGeneral Manager

The Boca Pointe Country Club is a mixture of social, tennis and golf members. When anemployee is chosen to be our personality of the month and he or she is not involved in yourparticular activity, you might ask why you should be interested in reading about that individual. A very good reason should be that each and every one of us has a story to tell. In these monthlycolumns we attempt to give a human face to those who spend a good portion of their lives tryingto make our activities as pleasurable as possible.

who’s who

Sandy FaddisSandy Faddis is a member of theBoca Pointe tennis staff. It’s hardto believe that early on, shethought she wanted to be ascientist! Sandy joined us almost 5 years ago and has been smiling ever since! A Teacher,Orchestra Director, and Tennis Coach spanning 35years, she retired to Florida in 2002.

Boredom soon set in and one day she saw awanted ad for the Tennis Department and even thoughshe could have gone to work at the Polo Club, Sandyalready knew Jeff Wernick - liked how she felt justbeing here at Boca Pointe, and the rest is history.Initially she helped assign tennis courts to members andwhen one of our Tennis Directors realized she couldplay the game, asked her to fill in when membersneeded another player. She now enjoys helping organizegames and events (Sunday mixed doubles) and writingblurbs for the Weekly as well as assisting the clubmerchandiser in clothing selection for the Pro Shop. You can already see a difference in the quality and outfitchoices now available to all of us.

Sandy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but attended the College Conservatory of Music inCincinnati, Ohio. Her first love was music - her major, the Trumpet! After graduating, she played professionallywith big bands and orchestras on a free-lance basis. Butlife on the road is tough. Since she already had herteaching certificate, she changed roles and became anOrchestra Director, teaching students how to playinstruments. She did go back to school and received aMasters in Special Education and completedcoursework for her Doctorate in music.

Sandy is a beach lover and lives just a few blocksfrom the beach in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. She enjoysrelaxing in her Jacuzzi and puttering in her garden andis happy just being where she is for now.

Her Motto - learned from her father, “Work to live- Don’t live to work”. — Eileen Kleinman

Martin RossA video editor and a golf shop assistant! Anunlikely mix of interests and talents, but that iswhat sets Boca Pointe’s Martin Ross apart from therest.

Martin, who greets golfers and their guests in person or on the telephone, with his dominant South African accent,is the man with those diverse interests and talents.

There is no mistaken Martin when you get him on the phonewhether he announces his first name or not (which he always does). “Theaccent is distinctive,” Martin says. “Most people guess that it is Englishor Australian, but it’s not. The South African accent is a combination ofDutch and German”.

He joined Boca Pointe nearly four years ago as a bag room attendantat the golf course and a year later he was promoted to an assistant in thegolf pro shop.

But that’s only half the story.Martin came to South Florida in 2000 from Cape Town South

Africa as part of a work program at Boca West. There he worked in foodand beverage and eventually in their membership office. When hisseasonal tour of duty was completed, he decided to stay in South Florida.

While he is a Boca Pointer through and through, he really owes alot though to Boca West.

Not only was Boca West Country Club his entrée into the U.S. andSouth Florida, but he ultimately met two other people there who areplaying an important role in his life:

First, there is Julie Uram, a young lady from Pittsburgh who is thefitness coordinator there. She eventually became Mrs. Ross.

Second, was Victor Milt, owner of Interactive Publishing. Martinmet him while driving people to and from the airport.

He has that knack for being in the right place at the right time.Martin began to work for Interactive, a company specializing in

production of commercials, corporate videos, and infomercials. Likeeverything Martin does, he jumped right into the post production tolearn from the bottom up. He schedules the shoots, works with the crewsand is now even getting into post production editing; an area that hethinks can eventually be financially rewarding for him and Julie.

When time permits-and it rarely does-he sneaks in a round of golfat Boca Pointe. “I wish I could play more. I love the game”.

Not only does he love the game, but he hits a mean ball as well.— Alan Taylor

MASSAGES ARE NOT ALWAYS “FEEL GOOD” THERAPYto be taken when one is stressed or “just because”. Many peopleuse massages as a healing tool and indeed more and moredoctors recommend the treatments.

But most of us do not know that there are stages of massagehealing. Relief, correction, strengthening and maintenance, themost important stage of all.

Depending on your concerns your trained licensed therapistwill advise you on the amount of treatments needed which will,of course, depend on your budget. The first few sessions will betargeted on trying to relieve your pain, reducing muscle tensionand relaxing stressed nerves. When the pain is gone, the therapistwill work on the problem that caused the pain by stimulatingyour lymphatic system and freeing knotted scarred muscle fibers. To prevent weakness in the same area and the injury fromre-occurring, adequate support is needed in the surroundingtissues which the therapist strengthens. Maintenance is the finalstage in healing and the first step in preventing further injuries.

Reiki is another healing technique that has been practiced inTibet for over 2,500 years. It means life force energy and iswidely known as the application of Chi, or a similar force. Chi is the term used by the Chinese mystics for the underlying forcethe Universe is made of.

It is widely believed that reiki may relieve pain, boost theimmune system and relieve acute problems. This may be becausepain is often linked to emotional, mental and spiritual states.Reiki goes beyond the symptoms and the true basis of theillness.

The practioner places their hands over a fully clothed body to start the energy flowing and to release blocked energy centers. The hands are then used to channel energy from the universe toyour body so it can heal itself. By balancing the 7 chakras duringthe treatment it becomes a beautiful experience that deeplyrelaxes the body, mind and spirit.

So when you next decide you need to have a massageremember there are many forms and many end results. At your spa here in Boca Pointe all massage therapists are trainedlicensed professionals who care about you.
