Natural Women: Carole King, CarlySimon, Joni Mitchel

The 1960's not only brought about tremendouschanges in the sound and content of popularmusic, but also blazed a new path for women tofollow toward self awareness and self realization. The music of the 60's challenged the mores andvalues of American culture and redefined the role of 'woman'. In a dramatic reading"Words...Alive!" explores the backgrounds and in-tersecting lives of these three female musicianswho upended the expectations that had been laidout for women by previous generations. A dra-matic curtain fell between the traditional mannerin which each grew up and the rebellious adult-hood each carved out for herself and which eachreflected in her music. Their music inspiredwomen to follow and nothing ever has been thesame. They gave us a new sound track to ourlives. The dramatic adaptation is based on thebook "Girls Like Us" by Sheila Weller and CarlySimon's memoir "Boys in the Trees" and a mem-oir by Carole King titled "A Natural Woman" Time:7:30 p.m. in the Imperial Room. Cost: $5 pp.
