welcome The world of contemporary fine art is made up of a wide variety of individuals. Artists, gallery owners, art publishers, critics, all these wield considerable influence on the art market. But perhaps the single most influential group is the one of which you are a member – the art collectors. This magazine has been produced exclusively for you. It presents an exceptional portfolio of collectable Limited Editions, Sculpture and new Original Paintings, from a group of international artists whose work we believe is worth owning. Not because it will bring the owner status or financial return, although it may do both these things, but because it will bring unalloyed pleasure. We hope you will enjoy Fine Art Focus, and that you will be visiting the gallery soon to view the complete collection.

As the UK’s leading contemporary realist,

Darren Baker has enjoyed a level of success that most

    artists only dream of.

Still in his early thirties, he has produced an impressive portfolio of figurative work and portraiture which graces many prestigious public and private collections around the world.

He has worked alongside and produced paintings for such star sporting names as Lewis Hamilton, Steven Gerrard and Amir Khan, while his non-sporting portraits include HRH Prince Charles and Tony Blair which hang in St James’s Palace and Downing Street respectively.

For a young contemporary artist to achieve this kind of status and recognition is extremely rare and can only be put down to Darren’s unique gift for naturalistic description.

The authenticity of his figures causes a momentary confusion in the viewer as each nuance is conveyed with such accuracy and truth that we find ourselves questioning whether we are looking at a beautiful photograph, or an extraordinary painting.

Safe as Houses It is all too easy to be charmed by the quirky yet stylish harbour scenes of South Western artist Rebecca Lardner.

But to look closely at these images is to glimpse a world of beam trawlers, long liners and crabbers; a thriving community, overlooked by painted or stone faced granite cottages. Ancient medieval harbour walls divide the shore from the sea, and highlight the natural curves of the classic English harbour.

For Rebecca the proximity of the busy sea and the safety of home is a major

source of inspiration. She draws the two elements together with a distinctive palette of sea colours, blues, greens, greys and teals, which make her work instantly recognisable. The unspoken contrast between the constant activity of the harbour and the watchful serenity of the fishermen’s cottages is in her own words, “a composition waiting to be realised.”

These monumental new compositions from Steve and Chris Rocks are breathtaking in their scope and ambition. Their atmospheric palette and extraordinary energy combine with their sheer size to create an awe-inspiring impact.

While the work of the Rocks brothers appears abstract, it is in fact highly representative. Each image is inspired by the lie of the land - the contours and colours rather than the literal details of the scene – so has its roots in reality rather than imagination. As Steve explains: ”Creating this free interpretation of the landscape is both challenging and liberating. We paint what we see but it is an intensely personal shared vision.”

Impressions of Summer is Sherree’s exquisite

    new collection of Canvas Editions.

In these beautiful evocations of the perfect summer’s day, Sherree contrasts the style and sophistication of the social scene with gently affectionate portrayals of childhood innocence. Two very different worlds, and this versatile artist proves herself equally at home in both.

Over the last 30 years Sherree has become the country’s premier impressionist artist, a fact that was acknowledged recently when Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen presented her with an award for ’The UK’s leading Modern Impressionist’ at a red carpet event in London. But although she is known mainly to her collectors for her elegant society scenes and entrancing childhood images, Sherree recently came to prominence for her portraiture when she was invited to appear on the Christmas Special of the hit TV series ‘To the Manor Bowen’. Sherree was shown painting a superb portrait of Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen to make a pair with one she had previously created of Laurence. The famously flamboyant couple were delighted that Sherree had seen past Jackie’s public face to the softer reality, and agreed that the paintings brought a stylish touch of authenticity to their new country home.
