Locations, costumes and props 3

In this presentation, I will be explaining my third ideas for location, costumes and props in my film opening idea.

I have changed some ideas to fit in with the story I have created for this character.

LocationThe location of the film opening would be near Whitestone pond at Hampstead Heath.

I think this would be the best location to create this sequence as it offers the same iconographic setting as most common thrillers do, being a woods like environment.

The scenes after, I will need to use a kitchen, front room and bathroom to portray the next part of the sequence which will show the main character making himself feel at home at one of his victims houses. This will be shot at home.

CostumesMain character (first scene)

The main character will be presented with a sense of individual style.

Clothing: In the opening the character will be seen in muddy boots to give a realistic sense as he will be in the woods. He will also be wearing black trousers with braces hanging down the back of his legs. This would give the impression of him being active (violent) because he would take it off to use his arms and body properly. He would also be wearing a plain t-shirt with rips and blood on it.

Hairstyles: His hairstyle would be presented in a messy way to show the madness of the character.

Main character (Second scene)

Clothing: For the next scene, the character will be presented in black jeans and a black baseball jacket. These colours are mostly used to give the impression of darkness in his character. Brown or black boots will be used.

Hairstyles: His hair would be tidier and in a slicked back style, showing him at a more stable and younger state.

From this scene, the character will be wearing other things that will be in the next slide under props. I have used these costumes and props to create the sense of Americana style.

Props

The character will have a tattoo on his arm to able the audience to identify this from the dark lit character. I have also chosen to do this in an attempt to imitate cult films that use little details on the characters that make them popular.

The watch and eagle belt add to the style and idea of him being a southern American as it represents the Americana culture.

In the opening the hammer will be used as the main weapon as it connotes a gruesome madness and aggression which can intimidate the audience. This weapon fits better into a thriller opening as other weapons such as an axe or blade show iconography of typical horror films.

The fake blood will be used at the beginning of the opening to show the character has killed someone. The blood will be presented all over the chest and face of this person.

The next scene, I will use the knife in the kitchen to imply he has killed someone. This will be emphasized by the bloody drag marks on the floor.

I will also use smashed glass over the kitchen to show there has been a struggle.
