D F ,

Peace and all Good! There is no more powerful miracle story in the gospels than what happened that day in Bethany. The scene was filled with emo on: Martha’s strength, Mary’s grief, the mourners’ wailing Jesus himself moved to weeping at the pain and loss that death yields. And then Jesus li s up his prayer, and a dead man wriggles awkwardly out of a tomb. He is s ll bound by his shroud. Can you imagine the wonder and the terror! And this waking of Lazarus from the dead is the last straw for Jesus’ condemna on. He has gone too far for the authori es, who are as spooked about this event as were the eyewitnesses! To wake someone from the dead is a power that is prac -cally unstoppable. If not stopped, such power could change the established order for all me! Next Sunday we begin the celebra on of the holiest and most power-ful of weeks of the year. And despite the condemna on of Jesus to death, his power and message is unstoppable. Indeed, all is made new! I urge all of us to make Holy Week the top priority in our lives. Even in the parish, mee ngs and other events give way to a full and conscious par cipa on in the Lord’s Paschal Mystery: the Passion, Death and Resur-rec on of Christ. Please see the bulle n for all of the beau ful and inspiring liturgies of Holy Week and plan to take part as much as possible. This week, we will pray our last Taize Prayer for Lent at 7:00p.m. on Wednesday in the old Mission and on Thurs-day, our last “Soup and Study” on the Seven Last Words of Jesus. We begin with soup at 6:00 p.m. and con nue with our study at 6:30 p.m.

Love,

R I C E B O W L Thank you to all who contributed toward the Annual Lenten Collec on (Rice Bowl). Your generos-ity will help li fami-

lies and communi es out of poverty and put them on a path toward resilience, prosperity, and stability.

A BIG FRANCISCAN THANK YOU!

Our parish received a le er of thanks for our generous support of the Franciscan Missionary Union collec on in February. Here is a por on of the le er from Fr. Dan

Lackie, O.F.M., who is the Director of this fund: Dear Friends,

We’re wri ng to let you know that we have received your check in the amount of $2,827.57 in support of the Fran-ciscan Missionary Union. Gi s gathered at the local par-ishes are a key factor in the financial stability of this cause, so the promo on you are doing is very much ap-preciated. You’re really helping create a vital and neces-sary link between our local communi es here in the Prov-ince of St. Barbara and those brothers and sisters plan ng and nurturing the Gospel in various cultural and socio-economical se ngs beyond the borders of the U.S. Along these lines it was very good to read the words of Pope Francis in his First Apostolic Exhorta on. He places “the missionary impulse” at the heart of Chris an life eve-rywhere. We are so grateful that you have made it a pri-ority in your parish outreach. Sincerely, Fr. Dan Lackie, O.F.M. The Franciscan Missionary Union

Thank you and many blessings to the Hospitality Min-istry, Art & Environment Ministry, and to all those who devoted their me and talents to make the Feast of St. Joseph such a beau ful one!

S T E W A R D S H I P T H O U G H T

Jesus called to his friend from the dead, “Lazarus, come out!” It is the same call our Lord makes to us un-ceasingly: “Come out!” Jesus calls us from our tomb of doubt and unbelief, from the darkness of our fear and anxie es; from the depths of our weaknesses and lack of hope. Chris an stewards pray for an open heart, so that they may hear the voice of the Lord, heed the con nu-ous call to come away from their former way of living and repriori ze their lives in the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do we believe Christ has the power to transform our lives? Do we take the me to listen to his call?

Keep a clear eye toward life's end. Do not forget your purpose and des ny as God's

creature. What you are in his sight is what you are and nothing more.

Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take nothing that you have received...but only what you have given; a full heart enriched by honest service,

love, sacrifice, and courage. ~~St. Francis of Assisi

The wards, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Chris ans. In these mes of crisis, the Pon fical Good Friday Collec on provides humanitarian aid to ref-ugees. When you contribute to the Pon fical Good Fri-day Collec on, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.

Sinceramente, Padre Dan Lackie, OFM La Unión Misionera Franciscana
