A conversa"on with God

One of the most important tasks for catechists is to teach our students how to pray. In younger grades, we memorize and recite well-known prayers like "Our Father", "Hail Mary" and "Glory be to the Father". We also introduce the prayer of "Five Fingers" (each finger of one hand reminds us of different inten%ons from prayer for our loved ones and the world to ourselves). Pope Francis is the author of this simple prayer of five fingers. In older classes, we pray for Rosary, litanies and introduce students to contempla%on, that is, Examen (Igna%us's examina%on of conscience) and Lec;o Divina (prayer with the Holy

Scriptures). The last two prayers "work" very well with teenagers who live in a constant noise, stress and movement and seem to appreciate the peace that prayer at the beginning of the class gives. The Examen, which we usually pray in the evening, helps to look at our day hour by hour to see how God works on my day and to what conversion He calls me today. There are several free applica%ons on the phone, which help to pray with this prayer- my favorite is "The Examen with Fr James Mar%n, SJ" on Podcasts. Lec;o Divina contemplates on the reading from the Scriptures- we ask ourselves what is happening in the text (Lec;o), what the text says to me (Medita;o), what I want to say to God (Ora;o) and for what change will this text make in my life (Contempla;o). Prayer is an amazing tool that allows us to get in touch with God and strengthens the rela%onship with the One who should be the most important in our lives.

Jednym z najważniejszych zadań jakie stoją przed katechetami jest nauczenie naszych studentów modlitwy. W młodszych klasach jest to powtarzanie i utrwalenie znanych modlitw jak „Ojcze nasz”, „Zdrowaś Mario” i „Chwała Ojcu” i zaznajomienie z modlitwą „Pieciu palców” (każdy palec ręki przypomina nam o różnych intencjach od modlitwy za naszych najbliższych i świat po nas samych). Papież Franciszek jest autorem tej prostej modlitwy pieciu palców. W starszych klasach modlimy się Różańcem, odmawiamy litanie i wprowadzamy studentów w kontemplacje czyli Examen (Ignacjański rachunek sumienia) i Lec;o Divina (modlitwa Pismem Św). Dwie ostatnie modlitwy są bardzo dobrze odbierane przez nastolatków, którzy żyją w ciąłym hałasie, stresie i ruchu więc doceniają pokój jaki daje modlitwa na początku klasy. Examen, którym z reguły modlimy się wieczorem, pomaga przyglądnąć się naszemu dniu godzina po godzinie by zobaczyć jak Pan Bóg działał w moim dniu i do jakiego nawrócenia mnie dzisiaj wzywa. Jest kilka darmowych aplikacji na telefon, które pomagają się modlić tą modlitwą - w języku polskim np. "Modlitwa w drodze". Lec;o Divina kontempluje czytanie fragmentu Pisma Św- pytamy co się dzieje w tekście (Lec;o), co tekst mi mówi (Medita;o), co chcę powiedzieć o tym teksie Bogu (Ora;o) i do czego, do jakiej zmiany mnie inspiruje (Contempla;o). Modlitwa jest niesamowitym narzędziem jakie pozwala nam wejść w kontakt z Panem Bogiem i wzmacnia relacje z Tym, który powinien być najważniejszy w naszym życiu. Renata Sosin

“Hands Only” CPR Course at St. Thomas Becket WHAT: a quick basic CPR course teaches individuals to recognize an emergency, call 911, start chest compressions and apply an AED un%l help arrives. Presented by the Mount Prospect Fire Department. Training takes about 20 minutes and is free. WHO: church personnel, ushers, and anyone who would like to learn the basics. WHEN: Saturday, March 23rd at 10am at St. Thomas Becket—1321 N Burning Bush Ln, MP RSVP: Liz: emika@stbmp.org or 847-827-9220—registra"on is mandatory. A full “Heartsaver CPR” course is also available and a+endees leave the class with a formal Heartsaver Cer%fica%on card from the American Heart Associa%on. The course is a in depth CPR course which takes roughly 2-3 hours to complete. Adult, pediatric, and infant CPR/AED are taught as well as choking for the age groups as well. The price is usually $35-45 per person depending upon how many people take the class. We will only schedule this class if there are few interested people.

Jezus prosi nas, jako chrześcijan, abyśmy służyli bliźniemu i karmili głodnych.

Ale jak to zrobić? Jednym ze sposobów to pomoc w naszej miesięcznej Zbiórce Żywności dla Sąsiada. Od wielu lat

zbieramy jedzenie i dostarczamy je do spiżarni w parafii św. Alfonsa. To jest

dzięki wspaniałym wolontariuszom, którzy zbierają i przewożą żywność w trzeci weekend każdego miesiąca. W ciągu ostatnich miesięcy straciliśmy wielu woluntariuszy i pilnie potrzebujemy

nowych. Prosimy rozważyć dołączenie się do tej bardzo łatwej służby. Zazwyczaj

pomoc jest potrzebna tylko dwa lub trzy razy w roku. Obejmuje to wcześniejsze

przybycie na wybraną Msze, zaparkowanie przy wejściu do kościoła i

zebranie jedzenia do bagażnika od przynoszących. Następnie dostarczanie datków do Św. Alfonsa (411 N Wheeling Rd) w tą samą niedzielę pomiędzy 12:15

a 12:30pm—tam jest zawsze ktoś do pomocy z rozładowaniem żywności.

To tylko tyle! Szczególnie pilnie potrzebujemy woluntariuszy na nasze

Food Drive Ministry Needs Help! As Chris%ans, Jesus asks us to serve our neighbor and feed the hungry. But how do we do this? One way could be by helping with St. Thomas Becket’s monthly food drive. We have been collec%ng food and delivering it to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry each

month for MANY years, thanks to the wonderful volunteers who collect and transport the food the 3rd weekend of every month. However, we have lost quite a few volunteers in recent months and are in need of some new helpers. Please consider joining this very easy ministry. You will usually only be asked to help two to three %mes a year. It involves coming early to the mass you select, parking in a spot near the church entrance, and then delivering the food to St. Al’s between 12:15 and 12:30 on Sunday. That is it! We are especially in need of volunteers for the two Polish masses, but could use more help at the English masses also. Mass at different parishes, some-%mes people say and do different

things. Why is that? Answer:

The Mass in its current form has taken shape over the course of

2,000 years. Over %me, tradi%ons, structures, and prayers have been put into place. There are certain

rubrics for the Mass that are nor-ma%ve wherever you go. This

means you could a+end Mass in Malawi or Thailand or Italy and

s%ll watch the same basic liturgy unfold, even if you don't under-

stand the language. There may be some cultural differences from

place to place, things that aren't specifically listed. For example, in the United States most people go up for Communion in a nice neat line. In Europe, everyone gets up around the same %me. It's a bit of

a free-for-all! Some people might take it upon

themselves to change things indi-vidually. People may not like

something that feels too "liberal" or "conserva%ve," and they may

take a well-meaning stance in the opposite direc%on. When people

(including the presiders) do things that are distrac%ng or change the liturgy, it introduces an element

that breaks the unity of the assembled community. The

important thing to remember is that we gather as the Body of

Christ to celebrate the Eucharist. If you are confused, ask! If you are

frustrated, pray for the spirit of charity.

On Saturday, March 2nd, 2019, the Respect Life Ministry of St. James Parish in Arlington Heights will be hos%ng a conference en%tled "Create in Me a Clean Heart – Protec"ng Me & My Family from Pornography.” Bruce & Jeannie Hannemann, the founders of Elizabeth Ministry Interna%onal and co-Directors of RECLAIM God’s Plan for Sexual Health, will present three

talks: (1) Safeguarding Your Children From Pornography, (2) Brain Science of Pornography AddicQon & Recovery, and (3) Links Between Pornography
