Wellsprings March 2015

Jesus said in Mark 4:24: Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. Jesus spoke these words to the disciples. He was teaching in parables that, while their overall

perception is correct—a King is coming and, indeed, is here—their understanding of that King (&

His kingdom) on earth is entirely flawed. It will be neither a swift takeover nor a sudden one.

Rather, the Kingdom of God will grow slowly and steadily. Indeed, there will be temporary setbacks

and, perhaps, disappointments; but the Kingdom of God will win in the end. The question Jesus is ask-

ing here is this: Will you persevere to the end to see it?

There is a prestigious ultra marathon in California that is one of the top ultra marathons in the world. Its rugged trails are punishing and extremely difficult. The distance is 100 miles. It has an interesting history. It started as a horse race where endurance riders set out to prove that horses could cover 100 miles in a day on rugged terrain. A rider named Gordy Ainsleigh rode the course on his horse in 1971 and 1972. However, in 1973, in preparation for the race, his horse went lame. He was invited to return to the race the next year. As the year passed on – he didn’t have a horse – so, he decided to do the unthinkable. He decided to run the course on foot. Twenty-three hours and 42 minutes later, he finished the course on foot! That was the birth of the most prestigious ultra marathon: the Western States Ultra marathon. In an interview, Gordy Ainsleigh said the following: “I knew I couldn’t finish and I came to the point where I said, you know I can still take one more step. So, I just decided to keep taking one more step until I could no longer take on more step.” Life is a race. The race is long and difficult. Muscles break down. Fatigue sets in. Energy fades. Your mind suddenly discovers more reasons to quit than to continue in the race. You encounter setbacks and disappointments. If you look at all of those things, it can overwhelm you. But I know you can still take one more step. And you can keep taking one more step until you finish the race. The King and His Kingdom on earth will prevail. It will be neither a swift takeover nor a sudden one. Rather, it will be slow and steady until He comes suddenly. In the meantime, just keep tak-ing one more step.

Mark 4:30-32,

Pastor Chip

March comes in like a Lion

And goes out like a Lamb

March is the month for many changes. We are hopeful that as Spring ap-

proaches our weather will be come milder and warmer. The sun will begin to

shine again and we will see pastures and yards turning green, trees starting to

grow leave and buds, birds building nests and new life springing out as baby ani-

mals are being born. What a great time of the year!

God’s word tells us about a new birth, our new birth, as we are forgiven for our sins by the blood of Jesus,

our old self is passed away and we are Born Again. “If any man be in Christ, they are a new Creature.” 2

Children’s Ministry On Sunday mornings, the Children's Ministry has been continuing to study Christian Discipline. We have studied discipline as it relates to Self Respect.....Daniel choosing healthful foods contrary to the King's orders; Confidence.....Gideon's (the lowest member of the lowest tribe) Rise to Leadership; Re-spect for Others....Elisha and the bears! We are learning that we are to treat ourselves and others the way God wants us to. We are not to indulge ourselves based on the world standards; nor are we to treat others the way they 'deserve' to be treated. God wants us to Honor Him by treating others with Christian love regardless of their 'deserving' of it. We will continue our Discipline study into April.

Wednesday night Children's Worship begins at 6:30 in the FLC. The children worship God through praise songs and prayer; learn about Him in small group Bible Study; then fellowship in the gym. If your children has/have not attended yet, he/she may join us any Wednesday night. The fifth and sixth graders are invited to join with the youth, in the Youth House, for Worship on any Wednesday night at 6:30; is optional. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, MARCH 4, the Children's Ministry will meet in the Youth House for worship and Bible study (the Youth are having a special event which requires the use of the gym). The fifth and sixth graders have been given their mission project instructions from Doc. The children will be required to earn money, then the class will use the money earned to donate to a Sa-maritan's Purse project. Upon completion of his/her project, the child must write a brief summary of what he/she did and give the summary to Doc.

Children's Choir meets on Sunday nights at 6p.m., in the FLC. Your child is welcome to join in Chil-dren's Choir on any Sunday night; Ms. Anita would love to have your child in choir. The Children's Choir has begun to work on a fun musical entitled 'God's Not Dead'. I think it will be a great!

CENTRIKID KIDSCAMP SIGN-UP IS NOW.....The deadline for a guaranteed spot has past; however, you may still add your children if Centrikid has space; just see me. The date for camp is June 29-July 3, 2015. The total cost per child is $340.00....we will meet soon to discuss fees. The child must have fin-ished 3rd grade to attend (camp rule, not mine).

Our ongoing mission project is 'change for Alabama Baptist Children's Homes'. A 'Lighthouse' bank for the children (or adults) to put their extra change into is in the FLC; money collected in this bank will benefit the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes. Our Lighthouse has been donated to another church for the month of March, but it will return in April:)

Family worship will be Sunday, March 29th.

"Rejoice always, pray continuously, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
