From the Pastor
This spring, I was attending my son’s first baseball game. I am not an obnoxious parent. In fact, I rarely
say a word. I sit and watch, mainly in silence. The only time I really say anything is to encourage the
boys. I enjoy watching the kids enjoy themselves. I also enjoy watching them improve week to week.
But this first game came down to the final out. Now, something about the pressure of the moment caus-
es emotions to well up in otherwise dignified persons. There were two outs, the bases were loaded . . .
and the ball is hit to my son at 3rd base. He fields the ball and begins chasing the runner on 3rd as he is
running home. I recognized clearly: if he tags out the runner, we win the game. I’m standing on the 3rd
base side behind the fence, and for some unknown reason I begin running down the 3rd baseline with him .
. . in front of the spectator’s bench. Just as they get to the plate, he lunges out to make the tag—and I
find myself lunging with him—but it is a bang-bang play at the plate. I look at the ump. He looks at the
two players on the ground at home plate. There is a pause that seemed like an eternity. Then finally, he
shouted, “He’s ooooouuuut!”
I hear the crowd erupt! I pump my fist! I screamed something, too, I don’t know what! I see the kids are
all running from different parts of the field to pile on each other! I look around and parents are running
onto the field, hugging one another . . .
And, all of a sudden, I think, “What am I doing? I’ve become one of “those” kind of parents. . . . running
down the baseline, pumping fists, screaming who-knows-what.” Where did this come from?! Sometimes,
the gravity of the moment wells up inside of us, and it all just comes out.
That is what happened to the apostle Paul in Ephesians 3:20-21. He thinks about all God has done and
explodes in an exclamation of spontaneous worship: Now to Him Who is able to do far more
abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him
be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.
Amen.
I wonder: Have you ever gotten caught up in spontaneous worship like that? When it happens, it is a
glorious thing. It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. You are enraptured with the glory of the moment.
This is spontaneous worship. This is true worship. This is worship in its purest form. When our hearts
are so tuned into His, worship is not manufactured. It merely happens. Put your heart in worship, and
join us this month. Hopefully, you will become one of “those” kind of worshipers.
Ephesians 3:20-21,
Pastor Chip

PRAYING FOR ECUADOR
Children’s News On Sunday mornings, the Children's Ministry has been studying Historical Biblical accounts of 'Moses' and 'Ruth'. We are learning the importance of following God's Way and not our way. God has given us a guidebook (The Holy Bible), to help guide us to do the right thing (God's Way). We must not only study His Word, but also live by His Word (God's Way). We are taking a break from 'Children Desiring God' for the summer. However, children are invited to meet on most Wednesday nights, for Bible study, prayer and fellowship. Dr. McCleney will be teaching the "Science of Creation". This class is primarily structured for 4th grade and up, but if your younger child is interested in trying the class, that is fine with Dr. McCleney. The younger children are invited to meet with me for a Bible study about prayer, pray for each other, and fel-lowship. Both Bible studies will meet in the FLC during adult worship. On most summer Sunday nights, children are invited to a Bible study on Giving and Serving; this study will meet in the FLC. Wednesday night Children's Worship and Sunday night Children's Choir will resume the Wednesday and Sunday after Labor Day (September third and seventh respectively). The new sixth graders are invited to join with the youth, in the Youth House, for Youth Worship on Wednesday nights. The outgoing sixth graders are invited to a promotion fellowship on Friday, August 1 (we had to change the July 22 date). I will meet the kids at FBC to go to Spring Valley Beach for the day; the middle school 7th graders are invited. Andy will not be able to join us on this new date as he has a scheduling conflict. Final details TBA. CentriKid Kidscamp was a week of praise to our Lord, Bible study and fellowship!! It was a great spiritual retreat for the kids (for the chaperones, too). Thank you again to all who helped support this kids and to all the parents who allowed their child(ren) to attend. Thanks also to the fantastic chaperones: Scott Conaway, Kim Searcy, Jacklyn Dupree, Jack Kinnison, John Jenkins, and Barry Conaway......nothing in Children's Ministry is possible without volunteers!! Our Baby Bottle Mission Project collected $148.00 for St. Clair Sav-A-Life; thank you!! Our ongoing mission project is 'change for Alabama Baptist Children's Homes'. A 'Lighthouse' bank for the chil-dren (or adults) to put their extra change into is in the FLC; money collected in this bank will benefit the Ala-bama Baptist Children's Homes. "Rejoice always, pray continuously, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Have a blessed August! Peace and Grace, Kim
