DIRECTOR'S NOTES

I don't think you're supposed to like this show.

That probably doesn't inspire confidence right now. You've seen the ads, you've heard all sorts ofpublicity, you've bought the tickets and dressed up nicely, found a babysitter, and driven all theway out to Warrenton to see this thing - and now the Director is giving you this critical bit ofinformation that might have been useful weeks ago.

Will you LOVE this show? Yes. Will you be deeply moved by it? Yes. Will you be filled with apowerful range of emotions, be brought along on an incredible journey we all know, yet havenever experienced in such an intimate and passionate way? Yes. Will you rock to the incrediblescore, gasp at the lighting and costumes, be overwhelmed by the talent before you and cry at thesheer volume of humanity that pours out from our stage? Absolutely.

But... will you LIKE it?

"Jesus Christ Superstar" is a tough challenge for a western audience. We are called to connectand identify with characters we have known since childhood in ways that aren't comfortable. Bythe end of the show we will see the perspectives and sense the urgency that drives theirmotivations in unique and touching ways. By the end of the show, we all become, in a real sense,Mary Magdalene, who doesn't understand what her relationship should be with this powerfulfigure. We become Caiaphas and Annas, who deeply wish to preserve their culture and protecttheir people from harm. We become Pilate, who is faced with an impossible choice with nopossibility of success. We become Peter, who realizes with great sadness how limiting hismortality truly is. We become the Apostles, followers of a great hero that don't understand thelarger realities until far too late. We become soldiers, and townspeople, and maids and carpentersand more, who are swept into a story much larger than themselves. And, most uncomfortably, webecome Judas, who betrays a lifelong friend and mentor and must reconcile the burden of whatthat truly means.

Almost three years ago, my team and I set out to create a historically accurate, visually vivid, andprofoundly thought provoking interpretation of Andrew Lloyed Webber and Tim Rice'smasterpiece. While we hope you like it, that wasn't the goal. To this Director, the reason theTheatre is the greatest form of communication is because it has the highest possibility of passingmeaning along to an audience in a personal way. I'll leave it up to you to determine what thevision was and what the meaning might be, and what it means to you. But you will not leave thistheater without having been moved beyond measure.

Suffice it to say, this cast and crew has worked harder than I have ever seen in the theatre,community or professional. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved. Enjoy thisperformance and thank you very much for coming to see this incredible show.

Phil Quinan Drums

Phil started playing drums early and trained under drummer John Blowers who played with FrankSinatra. He plays in his church choir and All Saints URTM as well as other local productions. Hehas also played with Rooftop Productions in Little Shop of Horrors and the Prince William LittleTheatre in their production of 9 to 5. He also works with local swing and jazz bands.

Andrew Lloyd WebberAndrew Lloyd Webber is the composer of some of the world’s best-known musicals including Cats, Evita, Joseph and the AmazingTechnicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of theOpera and Sunset Boulevard.

As a composer and producer, Lloyd Webber is one of an elite group ofartists to have achieved EGOT status by receiving an Emmy, fourGrammys including Best Contemporary Classical Composition forRequiem, his setting of the Latin Requiem mass, an Oscar and eightTony Awards including the 2018 Special Tony for LifetimeAchievement in the Theatre. Tim RiceTim Rice has worked in music, theatre and films since 1965 when hemet Andrew Lloyd Webber, a fellow struggling songwriter.

Rather than pursue Tim’s ambitions to write rock or pop songs theyturned their attention to Andrew’s obsession—musical theatre. Theirthree works together were incredibly successful—Joseph and theAmazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.

Tim has since worked with other distinguished popular composerssuch as Elton John (The Lion King, Aida), Alan Menken (Aladdin, KingDavid, Beauty and the Beast), Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson(Chess) and most recently, Stuart Brayson (From Here To Eternity).

Laurie Bersack Rehearsal Accompanist, Keyboard

Laurie is the rehearsal pianist and is also one of two pianists in the pit. She spent 21 years in localschools playing piano for their choruses and loved it. She is now retired and playing "Gamma" toher two grandchildren. Thanks to Joe for giving up their 46th-anniversary celebration so shecould be at rehearsal. Love to you all.

Jason Cardenas Bass Guitar

Jason is a Musician and Musical Logistics Production Consultant working in the DMV area andabroad for the past 10 years. He is the owner and main engineer of Fox & Anchor Sound, basedout of Warrenton. He is currently pursuing his degree in clinical psychology and in the performingarts at NVCC and GMU. Jason donates his time and support to music therapy programs.

Catherine Drummond Orchestra Director

Cathy is delighted to be working on her first FCT production with the rockin’ JCS band! She has20 years of theater experience, including Music Director, Vocal Director and Orchestra Conductor.Credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Les Miserables, Hello Dolly, Peter Pan, and most recentlyHONK! at URTM. She is currently the music teacher for Round Elementary School.

Carol Hartt Drums

Carol has been playing the drums for the past 40 years in various bands. Her longest running gigin recent years has been as the drummer for One Waypoint, a praise band that got its start atGrace United Methodist Church in Manassas. In her day job, Carol serves as the Fine ArtsCoordinator for Manassas City Public Schools.

Ashlei Peoples Keyboard

Ashlei is a classically trained pianist who has been playing gospel and jazz music since she wasseven years old. She studied Piano Performance and has played for several musicals such asLes Miserables, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, and Honk. Ashlei isworking on her Masters in Music Education and is the music teacher at Jennie Dean Elementary.

Kirstin Weber as Soul Girl, Ensemble

Kirstin is excited to be a part of her first production at FCT! Sincegraduating with her degree in theatre, Kirstin has worked at severalschools putting on productions, most recently directing The PhantomTollbooth. She is also a member of Fools Improv! Some favoritecredits: Beauty and the Beast, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Wizard ofOz, Cinderella, and Hello Dolly.

Esther Wells as Solo From Mob, Pilate's Wife

Esther is thrilled to be a part of her second show here at FCT,following Legally Blonde (Enid Hoops). When she’s not performing onstage, she uses her theatricality to teach math to high school students.Occasionally, she also likes to act a Fool with FOOLS! ImproveTroupe under the direction of Matt. She would like to thank everyonefor coming out to support the arts!

Jay Wells as Priest 1, Old Man, Apostle

Jay is thrilled to be back on stage singing after a long hiatus. 9 to 5was the last time Jay got to sing on stage and is excited to bereprising his role as a priest after a twenty year gap. Jay spends mostof his life doing taxes and taking care of his puppy dog as well asenjoying married life. Jay is extremely grateful to FCT for thisopportunity to perform.

Samantha Wong as Veronica, Ensemble

Sam is so blessed to be part of another phenomenal production. She’scurrently a 4th year Media Studies major at UVA and has worked bothon and off stage for a number of various shows at FCT and beyond. Jon Wood as Priest 2, Apostle

Jon was involved with community theatre for over 30 years inClearfield, PA with his favorite role being Frankie in Forever Plaid. Heretired 10 years ago and moved to Nevada never expecting to be onstage again. He moved to Haymarket 2 years ago and saw that FCTwas auditioning for JCS. He hopes you enjoy this production as it hasbeen a crowd favorite for over 50 years.

Mary Beth Balint Producer

This is the second show Mary Beth has had the privilege to produce atFCT. Her first production was Shrek the Musical. She has enjoyed hertime with this amazing cast and is excited to see all their efforts finallycome to life on the stage. She would like to thank her husband, Mike,and her six kids for their loving support. God be praised!

Doug Barylski as Captain of the Guard

Doug enjoyed being part of the JCS team as a soldier, since he is notreally a singer or a dancer. He is excited for the blessing this show isfor cast and audience. Doug is active with FCT on and off stage, asthe Whoville Postman (Seussical), and the Old Shepherd (As YouLike It), as well as FCT's prop and set inventory manager. Much loveto his wife Mildred.

Katy Benko-Miner Vocal Director

Having enjoyed a professional singing career, Katy now performs andteaches private vocal lessons/performing classes. Music Directioncredits: Shrek the Musical, Jane Eyre, Always Patsy Cline. Stagecredits: Ida in Honk!, Martha in The Secret Garden, Patsy Cline inAlways, Patsy Cline. Katy reprised her role of Patsy Clineprofessionally this past June.

Brad Broemmel as Caiaphas

Brad is a newcomer to the theater (well, since high school anyway) buthas enjoyed all manner of singing from church choir to barbershopand he sang for four years with the Notre Dame Glee Club. Brad is aveteran, having retired from the Air Force in 2008. He and his wife of33 years have seven children and two grandchildren.

Gabrielle Buonocore as Soul Girl, Ensemble

Gabriielle is thrilled to be in her second Fauquier Community Theatreproduction after playing the role of Helen Armstrong in The BestChristmas Pageant Ever. She has been involved in multipleproductions with URTM in Manassas. Most recently, she appeared asLowbutt in Honk! Gabrielle has a passion for children's theatre andhas taught children's theater at drama camps.

Elizabeth Steimel as Ensemble

Elizabeth is excited to be a part of her second show at FCT, especiallyafter her first one (Night Must Fall) was cut short! This will be her 38thshow in her long acting career starting at age 7. She would like tothank her parents, seven siblings, ten niece/nephews, and boyfriendBen for all their support and time spent listening to her perform allaround the house.

Jack Tessier as John The Apostle, Ensemble

Jack is a junior at George Mason University. Previous roles includeRobertson Ay (Mary Poppins), Silvius (As You Like It), and McNair(1776). When not performing, Jack loves to take the director seat,most recently directing 4 one-act plays, including The Summoning ofEveryman. Jack would like to thank Matt, Mary Beth, and the rest ofthe cast and crew! Enjoy the show!

Diane Turner as Ensemble

Diane is married and has three children. She and her husband movedto Virginia a little over a decade ago from Western New York, mainlyfor her husband’s job. She has been working at schools in FauquierCounty, first in the cafeteria, and now in the office. She loves to becreative, and to tell the story of Jesus, so this production is a thrillingopportunity for her.

Sarah Vaughan as Ensemble

Sarah is thrilled to be a part of the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar! Pastshows include Addams Family (Alice,) Music Man (Gracie,) and theLottery (Ensemble.) She’d like to thank her parents for supporting hercoming home at all hours from rehearsals! She’d also like to thank thecast and crew of this show for being so kind through the entirety of thisprocess!

Mandy Viles as Maid by Fire, Soul Girl, Feature

Mandy Viles is no stranger to the stage, and after a long hiatus ishappy to be back! She has most recently performed with the UpperRoom Theater Ministry in Manassas and is also the Soprano sectionleader for the Gainesville Community Choir. When not onstage,Mandy is happily raising and homeschooling her 10 kids in Haymarketwith her husband Joe. Deo Omnis Gloria!

Jamey Pellegrini as Peter

This is Jamey's first performance with FCT, but he is a veteran of thestage. Some of his past favorite roles include Seymore (Little Shop ofHorrors), Tateh (Ragtime), Marry'n Sam (Lil' Abner), Mr. Potter (It's aWonderful Life Musical) and Adam/Noah (Children of Eden). He wantsto thank his wife and family for their continued support.

Hilary Pierce as Mary the Mother, Ensemble

Hilary is thrilled to be part of the return to live theater, after being in theabruptly-ended Night Must Fall in March 2020. An FCT regular forseveral years, it is an honor to portray one of the most importantpeople in history. Being a real-life mother to nine amazing regularpeople, plus grandmother to one darling keeps life from being boring.It's good to be back.

Scott Pierce as Herod

Scott is making his 15th appearance on stage for FCT. He’s been TheCat (Honk!), Charlie Cowell (The Music Man), Levi (Joseph in theAmazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat), Old Man (A Christmas Story),Clarence Oddbody (It’s a Wonderful Life), and Headwaiter (She LovesMe). His favorite role is pretending to be King of his family, with wifeHilary and their nine apostles.

Heidi Santschi Costumes

Heidi was the costume director for Shrek the Musical at FCT andassisted with costumes for many years at Seton High School. Sheloves the process of creating new designs and is happiest whenadding the little details that help an actor bring the costume tolife. She would like to thank Sherry Murphy for lending her talentedsewing skills. She is a joy to work with!

Kelly Snow as Judas

Kelly is excited to be performing with FCT for the first time. Favoritecredits include: Spring Awakening (Moritz), The Music Man (HaroldHill), Annie (Daddy Warbucks), and Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour).Many thanks to FCT for this opportunity, to my family and friends forthe continuing love and support, and to all of you in the audience forcoming out.

Josh Carias as Annas, Simon Understudy

Josh Carias is an Oxford comma enthusiast. His stage credits includeMan of La Mancha (The Duke, Dr. Carrasco), Beauty and the Beast(Lefou), Into the Woods (Rapunzel's Prince), and Les Misérables(Foreman, Ensemble). Josh is also a cantor at St. Elizabeth AnnSeton Catholic Church. In his spare time, he buys far too manymid-2000s Japanese Transformers figures.

Colleen Corrado Choreography Consultant

Colleen has been an actor, writer, director, but her favorite role ismom. Being blessed to watch her kids dance for the past 23 yearsprepared her perfectly for her part in JCS and being able to watch herJosie do something she loves is an added blessing! Much love andthanks to the cast and crew and all the Glory to God for seeing usthrough.

Josie Corrado Choreographer

Josie Corrado has danced and performed for over 20 years andchoreographed for the last 15. This is her debut as the Director ofChoreography for a musical and she has loved working with thisproduction team, especially her Momma. Josie would like to thankGod for the many gifts He has given her, and this incredible cast andcrew for their tireless dedication to the production! Enjoy the show!

John Downes as Jesus

John is the father of 5 beautiful children, a 26-year teacher by day atChantilly High School, and a performer by night. His favorite rolesinclude Jean Val Jean (Les Misérables), Neville Craven (The SecretGarden), Ladislav Sipos (She Loves Me) and Lazar Wolf (Fiddler onthe Roof). He would like to thank the brilliant direction and leadershipof the JCS production team.

Stub Estey as Priest 3, Apostle

Retired AT&T executive Stub is an avid golfer who founded abluegrass band but put that on hold and then got bitten by the TheaterBug! He loves this talented cast and their acceptance of an old rookie.Other FCT plays: My Fair Lady; It’s a Wonderful Life Radio Play(online); Bad Auditions on Camera (online). Shoutout to Nancy for hersupport during all those rehearsals.

Hulda Fahmi as Ensemble

Hulda sang "Ripe Strawberries Ripe" from Oliver as a young girl andhas loved singing in musicals since. She works with advocacy groupsfor human rights and religious freedom and can see parallels of fatesin Jesus Christ Superstar. She prefers cycling to walking and enjoys ahearty breakfast. She is excited to join the FCT family with the manytalented performers.

Maureen Hamilton as Ensemble

Maureen is grateful to be cast in her 1st FCT show with Matt andappreciates the warmth of her Theater Family, being new to NOVA.She survived chorepgraphy with Josie & Colleen's modifiers! Previousshows include: Big Fish, JCS 2017, Sister Act, On Golden Pond,Mamma Mia, & Oliver. She is glad you chose to "ride into Jerusalem"with us ~ for your Superstar Journey!

Ben Jacobeen as Apostle, Ensemble

Ben is excited to be back on stage for his first show in 8 years. He hasbeen a lighting and sound technician on numerous shows. This is hisfirst show with FCT. He spends a lot of his time recording his ownmusic, rock climbing, biking, and doing other outdoorsy things. Hewould like to thank Matt for encouraging him to do this and hopes youenjoy the show!

Martin Kelly as Apostle, Ensemble

Martin is excited to be joining FCT for the first time in this show. He isa recent graduate of Franciscan University with a Bachelor of Arts inTheatre. Some of his favorite roles in the past are Genesius (TheComedian), Health Warden (Government Inspector), and Miracle Max(Princess Bride). He would like to thank God, as well as FCT for givinghim this opportunity.

Rachel Marineau as Mary Magdalene

This is Rachel’s debut with FCT. She was last seen as Madge inGeorge Washington Slept Here. When she’s not on the stage doingwhat brings her joy, she can be found making memories with herhusband and kids. It is with their support that her appearancealongside this incredible cast is possible, as well as her friends, family,and strength from above.

IT professional by day, theatre junkie by night, James is appearing inhis first FCT show. 2x WATCH nominee for his Assassins set designand dressing at Dominion Stage, his favorite roles include Javert, theEmcee, Trekkie Monster, and Riff Raff. Best roles of all are husbandto Christine and father to Ollie, Elizabeth, Cecilia, baby Emily, andScout the beagle.

Matt Moore Director

Matt is an award-winning Creative Director and Theatrical Director. Hiswork has been featured on the Superbowl as well as internationaltelevision. He has directed hundreds of TV commercials and dozensof theatrical productions as well as directed and performed in theFools! Improv Troupe for 27 years. He lives in Bristow, VA with hiswife Lisa and their seven children.

David Morgan as Roman Centurion

Dave is all about marching up and down the square and poking peoplewith big pointed sticks and swords. Last seen in a theatricalproduction, playing Maurice in Upper Room Theatre’s Beauty and theBeast, he loves to Fool! around with NOVA's longest running ComedyImprov troupe, the Fool!, of which he has been a member for close to15 years.

Patrick Mulhern as Pilate

Patrick is a classically trained lyric tenor. His 5 CD's include Irishtunes, love song standards, Christmas, and sacred music. He hasbeen a tenor soloist in great works like Handel's Messiah, StrainersCrucifixion and Haydn's Creation and has toured all over the countryand the world. The Pilate role marks his true debut into musicaltheater.

Catie Pacheco as Ensemble

Catie is so excited to be a member of this production! A recentgraduate of Seton School's theatre programs, Catie has played avariety of roles in musicals and dramas and was an active member ofthe Semper Ridiculum Improv Troupe.
