This session’s registration begins at 9:00 am on August 16 at all Parks & Recreation Regional Offi ces. Registration contin-ues without interruption for each activity until its specifi ed

registration deadline. No late registrations will be accepted after the activity’s published registration deadline.• Payment must accompany registration. Cash, check or money order (payable to FCPRD). Visa and Mastercard accepted in person only at this time.• You will be notifi ed if a program is canceled or if your regis-tration was received after enrollment reaches maximum levels. All activities pose risks which each participant assumes and should consider. Before participating in strenuous activities, ask your doc-tor about your ability to do so safely. Supplies and related costs, if applicable, are outlined in your fi rst class.•Fee Waivers: Fauquier County Parks & Recreation Department endeavors to make leisure activities affordable to all county resi-dents. Fee waivers are available for county residents whose income might make it diffi cult or impossible to afford our services. •Youth Scholarships: For residents age 14 and under who do not meet the criteria for a fee waiver, FCPRD maintains a Youth Scholarship Fund.

Refund Policies1. Programs: Satisfaction is guaranteed. If any participant is dis-satisfi ed with any program or class they will receive a refund as follows:• 100% Refund: through the fi rst class• Prorated Refund: second class and beyondPlease note: Refunds are determined from the date and time of request2. Access Fees & Pool Swipe Passes: No refunds will be given3. Pass Plans: No refunds will be given (Some exceptions apply. See Pass Plan Policies)

Pass Plan Policies: 1. Pass plans for one month or greater are available to county residents.2. Access Fees: No refunds will be given. Rain checks for pool ac-cess may be issued.3. Pool Swipe Passes are nonrefundable and valid only for the loca-tion and season for which they are issued.4. Pass Extensions: Requests for extensions must be made prior to the absence and passes must be approved and deactivated by the Region Superintendent. Only one extension per year may be grant-ed to a pass holder. Only absences greater than four weeks will be considered. Pass extensions will only be permitted if the pass hold-er becomes physically unable to use the services or military status is modifi ed to active. The pass holder must prove such disability by a doctor’s certifi cate or activation of military service with submis-sion of military orders. 5. Passes may only be used at the designated facility.6. Passes are non-transferable.

Concert on the Greenway All Ages Welcome!

Welcome Fall with a FREE concert on the Greenway by acclaimed folk artist Me and Martha, whose perfor-mances include traditional folk music, audience sing-alongs, guitar, banjo, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, stand up and a one-string pickin’ tub bass. The audience is led on an enjoyable journey though the music of the early set-tlers to today’s musical expressions. Bring the whole fam-ily and don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets!

Fauquier Community Band Autumn ConcertAll Ages Welcome!!!

Mark Monday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m on your cal-endar for an offering of delightful music and a dessert reception . Musicians of all ages are encouraged to join the Fauquier Community Band under the direction of Herb Edwards. You don’t have to be a pro - no auditions are required. You are welcome to join even if you have not played in years. Dust off that instrument and jump in! For more information, call Mr. Edwards at (540) 522-3111. Environmental, Nature & HistoricalTours of The Caboose at the Warrenton GreenwayAll Ages Welcome!

Families can enjoy an imaginary trip back in time at the Old Warrenton Train Station. Tours and historical train infor-mation are presented by the Friends of the Warrenton Caboose from 9:00am–11:00am the fi rst Saturday of every month from April through October. Registration is not required.

Track Talk at the Warrenton CabooseOn Saturday September 4 from 9:00-10:00 am, the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department will host the fi nal Track

Talk this year, presented by the Friends of the Warrenton Caboose. This talk is free to the public and will be held at the Caboose on the Warrenton Branch Greenway trail head on South Fourth Street.

Climb aboard and hear stories about what it was like to live and work on the railroad caboose. Tour inside the caboose and then watch a demonstration of how to use track tools to construct and maintain railroad tracks of years gone by. Youngsters can help throw a working switch and experience the steps in laying down a track. You also can operate a working track signal.

Time for dogs to enjoy some refreshing pool water. Dogs will be swimming, playing fetch, and shaking water every-where at the Larry Weeks Community Pools at Vint Hill. Bring your canine for a time of fun, in, and out, of the water! Even if your dog doesn’t like the water he is sure to be enter-tained by all those that are swimming. No pre-registration is required. Pay at pool entrance. Admission fees helps sup-port youth swimming programs. All dogs must be on a leash (6’ or shorter) when entering and exiting and must be wear-ing their current vaccination and county license tags. Ag-gressive dogs will not be permitted. ACTION packed weeks of sports and games! A great over-view of various sports and fundamental skills. Teamwork and good sportsmanship are stressed. Specifi c sport activities will vary each week. This session is designed to ignite a passion for sports. Children will improve their kicking, running, jumping and throwing skills. Instruction in various sports will include basketball, t-ball, lacrosse, hockey and frisbees. Individual in-struction, organized drills and fun games will be included.

SportsBeginner Youth Tennis Development (YS)Ages 7-14 yrs.

The basic beginner tennis player who is new to the game or minimally experienced beginner who has taken some past in-struction but needs further skill development to achieve inde-pendent match play will benefi t from this course. Instruction is provided by USPTA endorsed Developmental Coach Mike Ryon. Tennis shoes required. Course meets four times for a total of six hours of instruction. Pay $5 equipment fee separately to in-structor at fi rst class.

Intermediate Youth Tennis Development (YS)Ages 9-16 yrs.

The low intermediate to moderately advanced intermediate tennis player who has completed a minimum of two past Parks and Rec classes or equivalent advanced beginnner instruction and plays fairly consistently with basic strokes (forehand, back-hand, volley, and serve). Minimal experience with independent match playing is also required. Instruction provided by USP-TA endorsed Developmental Coach Mike Ryon. Tennis shoes re-quired. Note: Must be able to ride a bicycle without training wheels. Learn the basics of riding a unicycle and then prog-ress at your own speed. The instructor will work with you to get you riding and teach you basic maneuvers like circles and fi gure eights. More advanced riders will learn to free mount, rock, ride backwards, and even attempt to ride over ramps. Don’t have a unicycle? One will be provided for a $20 rental fee, payable to the instructor at the fi rst class. Students may take unicycles home for the session.

Test your skills at an event held on one of Virginia’s best lakes for fi shing, Germantown Lake at C.M. Crockett Park. This will be a day of demonstrating to kids the fun and enter-tainment of fi shing. There will be prizes for different age cat-egories, a Big Fish Award, a Casting Contest Award, and an I Caught a Fish Award for all participants who land a fi sh. The ever-coveted Thanksgiving turkeys, pumpkin pies and poinsettias will be awarded to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place division winners. There are eleven divisions in both male and female age categories as follows: 14 & under; 15-18; 19-25; 26-30; 31-35; 36-40; 41-45; 46-50; 51-55; 56-60 and 61 & over. Pre-register by November 8th. Environmental, Nature & HistoricalEnvironmental Education and Historical Interpretation Field Trips

Wow! In the past year, over 2000 children participated in one of the many environmental or historical programs offered through Parks & Recreation. Programs are offered at C.M. Crockett Park in Midland (environmental), and Monroe Park in

Goldvein (historical). Many of the programs are designed to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning. The cost is reasonable at only $3 per student per activity. Call one of the parks for more detailed information.

Orienteering (YS)Ages 10-Adults Ages 12 and under must have an adult chaperone. Chaperones must also register.

Learn the parts of a compass, how to use a topographic map, and how to make the two work for you ‘on the ground.’ Practice on a beginner course and learn how to measure distances with pacing. Then test your skills on an advanced course with an in-structor nearby to help you. Map & Compass (or Orienteering) is a fun and valuable skill even with today’s fashionable GPS’s on the market. Come out and enjoy a trip to the stars under clear fall skies. View the constellations, stars and planets with the Northern Vir-ginia Astronomy Club. No formal program will be presented, how-ever feel free to bring your own telescope, observe through one provided, or just sit back and en-joy the night sky. Registration is not required. Leonid Meteor ShowerAll Ages Welcome!Ages 17 and under must have an adult chaperone.

This will be a great opportu-nity to view the rare event called the Leonid Meteor Shower. Me-teor showers are caused by the Earth passing through the path a comet has traveled. Debris left over from the comet’s last pas-sage may enter the Earth’s at-mosphere, creating a meteor shower. Many telescopes will be available thanks to the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club to view this unique event. Wear weather appropriate clothing, and bring blankets and snacks. This is an introductory class for those with no skills. What better way to enjoy the fall than to introduce the sport of Golf into your child’s life! This class will not only teach the basics of Golf but most importantly, etiquette, discipline, integrity and honor of the sport. The basics of Golf will be taught such as the proper way to grip the Golf club, how to aim, swing, and putting on the green. Our goal is to spark your child’s interest and have the enthusiasm to continue their knowledge of the sport. “It will bring out your child’s competitive edge.”

Tee Time on the Green (YS) Grades 3-5

This class is for those with exposure to beginner skills. This class will start with a quick overview of the basics of golf be-fore moving on to the actual Golf course. During this lesson, there will be an in depth instruction regarding the proper etiquette and honor of the sport. Golf fun-damentals will be taught and the skills the students learn during the class will be used while they are on the Golf course itself. “It will bring out your child’s com-petitive edge.”

Tee Time for Teens (YS) Grades 6-12

This class is for those with beginner skills. This class will continue teaching the fun-damentals and etiquette of Golf. Instruction of full swing, chipping, pitching, bunker, play and putting will be incorporated as well. Many fi shing enthusiasts know that sometimes the fi shing is best early in the morning or later in the eve-ning. Germantown Lake will be available for boat launch-ing and shore fi shing for early morning fi shing beginning at 5:00 a.m. and late-night fi shing until 11:00 p.m. as indicated in the schedule below. Please remember only electric motors are allowed. Concessions and boat rentals will not be available until regular operating hours. In ad-dition, the rest of the park is closed until regular opening time and after regular closing time. No registration is re-quired. This event is free to Fauquier County residents. Admission for non-county residents is $6 per car, payable at the front gate. The boat launch fee for non-county resi-dents is $2.
