Dear Mayor Baechler and Councilllor Judy Bryant of ward 13

I own and operate a business downtown occupying 4,500 square feet at 258 Dundas Street

between Clarence and Wellington. 258 Dundas had been vacant for seven years. The success of

my business was such that I took on an additional 2,500 square feet in the back half of 260

Dundas in a building that had also been vacant for a number of years. It took years to achieve

the current level of occupancy in my block.

Kingsmills is 73,000 square feet. Fanshawe will be an ideal tenant. I applaud your support of this

endeavor. I am appalled that we are risking the alternative of a building that will potentially sit

empty for years. It is unconscionable that seven councillors are preventing Fanshawe from

exercising their plan to repurpose Kingsmillsto the betterment of downtown.

It scares me to think that mayoral candidate, Joe Swan, is ignoring the advice of the City

Manager, City Planner and City Treasurer as well as the recommendations of Heritage London. I

am concerned about councillors that show such blatant disregard for the professionals at city

    hall.

Regarding the other dissenters, Bud Polhill, Denise Brown, Sandy White, Stephen Orser, Bill

Armstrong and Paul van Meerbergen. I hope that they will reconsider their position. The ideal

place for a centre of hospitality is in the city centre.

The manipulation of the truth around the $10,000,000 (currently $9,000,000) is pathetic. The

truth is the money is available and it is neither indexed to inflation nor is in being handed out as

a lump sum. It will not result in higher taxes. Instead the investment of the requested money

will ensure 73,000 square feet is not lying unused on our main street. It will encourage further

development. If the building the size I occupy could lie empty for so many years then how many

years do you think Kingsmills could potentially lie vacant.

The bloc of councillors preventing Kingsmills from being repurposedis working contrary to thebest interests of London. I urge council to approve this project.

    Respectfully Yours.
