Preparation • Prepare an outdoor obstacle course. You may wish to use both natural and man-made features. Some ideas are listed below and shown in the pictures. Allow lots of different movements and ways of travelling.
Ideas • Log balance bridge • Rope cross • Climb though hoops • Step through tyres • Under tarpaulins • Over logs • Through rope webs Differentiation: HA- Explore with different ways of travelling. Adapt their techniques. LA- Prompts for movements. Extension: Can the children suggest their own obstacle courses and routes in their outdoor area? (Obviously an adult to check
them first!)
Lesson Objectives Children will develop their physical skills and strength by travelling in different ways. Teaching points Setting up an outdoor obstacle course will facilitate physical literacy, gross motor skills and self-confidence. Risk Assessments Generic Site RA; String & Rope Activities RA.
