Corporate ProfileOrigins of the GeoGroup Companies

Geomechanics was founded in 1989 by Dave Rossiter, to service the Geotechnical(Pty) Ltddrilling and soil and rock testing market. The GeoGroup of companies is the culmination of almost30 years of contracting experience in the civil, mining and exploration fields under the leadership ofthe major shareholder, who, together with his partners, has grown the businesses into a formidableentity.

Through uncompromising integrity, we have builtlong term relationships and partnerships with ourclients, suppliers and business partners which havesustained the group through two world-widerecessions.

In 2000 we started a gradual process of branchingout into drilling for the exploration industry andtoday, through a continued policy of upgrading ofstaff and equipment through training, replacementand maintenance, Geomechanics is one of theleaders in its field.

Geomech Africa (Pty) Ltd, started in 2006, has a class BEE rating. As a group Geomech2 B-B ,Afric (Pty) Ltd and Geomechanics (Pty) Ltd, we employ over 2 0 people access to 0a 0 with over 8drill rigs. We satisfy the general SED requirements with respect to female participation (five officebased) and senior to middle management black employees.

In 2011 GeoPile Africa (Pty) Ltd was established to supply the driven ductile iron pile fondationsystems to Africa.

The Group has access to over 4000 square meters of factory space, a workshop of 2200 squaremeters and 1000 square meters of office space. All of which is conveniently situated near theairport at Lanseria, north of Johannesburg, SouthAfrica.

The Samson Sebanda Drilling SchoolGeomechanics has established the Samson SebandaDrilling School to ensure that all employees and potentialemployees are fully skilled in the safe operation of drill rigsunder all conditions. The school consists of a 12 -seaterclassroom for theoretical work, a practical training area and atraining drill site.

Exploration and Geotechnical Drilling and Testing Services

Geomechanics Geomech Africaand provide a drilling and testing service tothe minerals exploration market as well as the Geotechnical and Civilsindustries in SouthernAfrica.

Both companies specialise in symetrix overburden drilling, rotary mud drilling, rotary core drilling, reverse circulation drilling, open hole Percussion drilling, sonic drilling and insitu testing.

Through our diverse drilling solutions, we have extensive experience indelivering exploration and geotechnical services at the highest standards inquality and safety, in the following areas: Mineral Exploration in sands, soil and rock up to 2000m deep. These

methods and services include sonic drilling and coring, reversecirculation, symetrix drilling, rotatry core drilling, mud rotary drilling andopen hole percussion drilling.

Geotechnical services for railways, tunnels, dams, bridges, buildings, excavations, box cuts, roads, power stations, borrow materials, voidfilling and tunnel and dam grouting.

Services include:

Sonic drilling (Can link to a separate page detailing this technique)

 Rotary core drilling

 Exploration drilling

 Percussion drilling

 Water drilling

 CPTu

 In-situ testing

Geotechnical and Structural, Instrumentation, monitoring & testing

Rotary core drilling with : Triple tube (NMLC) (HMLC), ZWF triple tube, TNW, T2-121 andT6-146.

In-situTesting

Terra Monitoring is a leader in the installation and monitoring of Geotechnical and structuralinstrumentation for the civil engineering, mining, railway and road infrastructure industries. vane shear test is an in-situ geotechnical investigation used to estimate the undrained shear

strength of fully saturated fine-grained clays, silts and other fine geomaterials. Permeability test measures the rate water moves through the soil. Piezometer installation: standpipe piezometer is used for long term monitoring of ground water. Pressure meter testing (PMT) test is used to design either shallow foundation using bearing

capacity of settlement criteria or design for vertical capacity of deep foundation. Standard penetration testing (SPT) is an in-situ dynamic penetration test designed to provide

information on the geotechnical engineering properties of soil. Penetrometer testing (CPT and CPTu): The cone penetration Test (CPT) is used to determine

the geotechnical engineering properties of soils and assess subsurface stratigraphy. The CPTuis a CPT that also gathers piezometer data.

Deep Driven Pile Foundation Solutions

Geopile Africa specialises in the design, supply and installation of ductile iron piling solutionsfor a wide range of structures. Typical projects include Buildings, Bridges, Silos/Tanks,Electrical Transmission Lines, Concentrated Solar Power plants (mirrors and wind fences),Sewerage works structures, soil retaining structures and many more.

The Ductile iron piling system is a safe, fast, simple, modern and universally usableprefabricated driven piling system which requires little preparation of site working platforms, and allows access to the most difficult working conditions, ranging from sites with head roomas low as 4.5m to congested, fully active sites.

As the Ductile iron piling system is extremely versatile and adaptable, even when unexpectedgeotechnical conditions are encountered, the risk of significant disruptions to the pilingprogram is effectively eliminated.

With help from our sister company – Geomechanics, who offer a full array of percussion pre-drilling – we can offer solutions to problematic soil profiles where driven piles alone are notsufficient

Programme and Cost savings Fast installation (up to 400 m/rig/day) Minimal piling platform preparation Sub-structure synchronicity – pre-excavation of pile caps allows the piles to be installed to

blinding level thereby eliminating pile head trimming post - installation and speeding up sub-structure construction time

The pile uses simple Plug & Drive joint system, using the geometry of the joint and theenergy of the hammer to “cold-weld” into place. This transfers all bending moments, compression loads of up 1200kN and tension of up to 900kN without additional rebar

Low vibration (less than 2mm/s peak particle velocity) means that the system can be usednear sensitive structures

No spoil and no waste Safe working loads up to 1200 kN Usage of light and standard equipment Environmentally friendly (made from 100% recycled materials and very low concrete

requirements Can be used where geotechnical soil analyses is limited (gives information on soil profile by

penetration rate of pile) Rapid return on investment

Less Risks Safer working method and safer equipment using less labour Flexible pile depths. End bearing piles are driven to refusal at almost three times their

working load thus ensuring proper end bearing load transfer Each pile is shock and corrosion resistant and fully load tested during installation
