What is evaluation?

• Evaluation is when a reader decides what they like or do not like about what they have read.

• Evaluation is the reader’s chance to assess the book or text.

When do you evaluate a text?

• As a reader, you can evaluate a text DURING reading.

• As a reader, you can evaluate a text AFTER reading.

• In other words, evaluate the text during and after reading.

How do you evaluate a text?

• Decide if the author was able to make the story come to life.

• Decide if the story was informative, entertaining or useful.

• Think about how well you understood the text.

• Decide if you enjoyed the text.

What questions can you ask to evaluate a text?

• Did I like the story?• What did I like about the story?

What did I dislike? Explain.• What does the story make me

think of?• Does the story remind me of

anything? Why?
