In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? In what way does our media product use conventions of a real media product? Well, there are many examples throughout our music video that show evidence of real media product influence which I am now going to document below. 1.) This is one of the many close ups of our lead guitarist within our video, not only does this look good aesthetically, it is also a common feature of a real music video as shown by the comparison on the right, this shot is used (or shots similar) when the electric guitar has a significant part in a song, the bridge for example, it is to show where the sound is coming from, known as amplification. 2.) Another close up, this time of the bass guitarist, this is another example of how we used real media products to influence our video, as shown by the picture to the right. Although not completely identical our intent was clear and obvious. Again this shot is used to not only 1. ) 2. )

Again this shot is used to not only ‘show off’ the bassist but to amplify the sounds that we can hear.

1.)Almost every music that is performance based has a long shot, a traditional shot that shows the whole band at work, it is great at ‘filling’ a part of your song where nothing particularly interesting is happening, this is one of the most obvious attempts of ours to recreate or show influence from a real music video, therefore using conventions of a real music video.

2.) A close up of our lead singer, using the Star Image motif in order to sell our product, this is used in most music video’s as the lead singer is usually the ‘face’ of the band, and is the most recognisable in terms of fan brand recognition, our inclusion of this is a clear indication of the use of the conventions of a real music video.

Overall I believe that we used the modern conventions of a real music video well, we implemented generic shots and effects into our video that you would expect to see in a music video of our genre. We have a band of four which is the general size for a band in our genre, we have also kept with the mise en scene clothing wise that is traditionally associated with out genre and type of music, basic clothing, skinny jeans and a t-shirt properly depicts a professional band look, which is evident throughout our product.

The ways in which we developed the conventions of a real music video are evident throughout, we over amplified in most cases giving every movement and use of an instrument more significant and more powerful, this also made for a more passionate performance from our band members, which is another thing that we developed , our band members show passion throughout, through facial expression and other paralinguistic features developing the stage presence and in turn the conventions of a real music video.

We challenge the modern conventions of a music video within our genre by challenging ne thing, the location and the mise en scene. Most modern music videos that are solely performance based are shot in an all white room with lots of open space and depth, we however challenged that by filming our video in a ‘black room’. We did this not only to challenge the conventions of the generic music video but also so that the lighting stood out and lit up the faces of all of the band members and their instruments, this also made for a good transition into a black and white colour scheme and video effect.
